UNC is clearly a team that's good enough to win the whole thing with a little luck (which anyone needs ). Colby White is an absolute assassin and the rest of their team is just experienced and solid.

I think Duke at full strength is a really bad matchup for them (I just dont see who even tries to guard Zion and I think he also cleans up a lot of the 2nd chance points that UNC got) but you can only play who the other team puts on the floor.

Sucks that Bolden got hurt too. He obviously doesn't put up huge numbers but Duke still really needs him.
The one advantage that UNC has in the head-to-head matchup is that their guards, and Tre Jones in particular, can't shoot from three. Coby White has a terrible habit of over-helping and it results in UNC getting roasted by PGs who are good long range shooters. It's the reason they needed OT to beat Miami at home (Lykes, who is tiny, still got open enough to hit 5 threes).

Zion is obviously a problem for the Heels, but he's a problem for everyone in college basketball. He's a man among boys. Heels are at least deep enough at the 3 and 4 to throw a lot of bodies at him, maybe that will help.  Maybe he'll go cold from the line.  All anyone can do against him is pray.

Agree on Bolden. I was surprised more wasn't made of the injury.  Duke certainly still has plenty of firepower to win the conference and national title without him, but it'll be a tougher road.

Tony Bennett won his 4th ACC coach of the year award, second straight, to go with his dozens of other awards, titles and accomplishments as a player and coach.  Fair or not, he's still always going to be primarily remembered for one thing, at least until another 16 beats a 1.

If he wins a National Championship this year, it's an instant 30-for-30.

I recall Montana giving UConn fits about 10 or 15 years ago, and Princeton/Georgetown when Mourning was playing.

Worth pointing out that DeAndre Hunter was also named First Team All-ACC, ACC Defensive Player of the Year and was the third-leading vote-getter for ACC Player of the Year.

I say it's worth pointing out because Hunter was injured in the ACC Tournament Final last season and missed the UMBC game. Obviously they still should have won comfortably, but that was a massive loss and this year's conference voting shows it.

Been a while since I witnessed something like yesterday.  Houston outscored Cincy 44-22 in the last 12 minutes or so.  Unreal.

UNC Greensboro was a good team. They should be in, but obviously wont be.

Wofford's seeding will be really interesting. They're pretty damn good on offense. Even their big guy is pretty legit.

Like last year in the tourney when we decided not to play the last 15 minutes of the game because we were too busy packing our bags for the next round?  My heart still hurts about that one.

I don't understand how many bracketologist not only have Texas in the thing but safely in.  They are 16-15 with losses to Radford, Providence, Oklahoma State, and Georgia (who is god awful).  They do have a win over UNC before Thanksgiving but still 16-15.

I think Clemson/NC State tomorrow might be a winner gets in loser is out game.   Going to be interesting to see Florida, Alabama, Texas,  TCU, and Indiana against Belmont, Greensboro, Lipscomb and St Mary's.

It’s gotta be because of how much higher they are efficiency-wise, and we know the committee is using efficiency data in bracketing now. They’re about 10-15 spots higher than the bubble according to NET and Kenpom. They’re also one of the unluckiest teams in the nation in terms of wins/losses. 348th in luck.

They’ll  actually be a good benchmark to see how the committee weighs the metrics vs the resume.

ACC with 3 games today between 6 teams with a losing record. What is the point of this? Can’t they just shave off teams 13-15?

So on a neutral court the 90.2 ppg Zags score 47 tonight and lose by 13 to a team they beat by 48 at home and 14 on the road.

Definitely didn't look like the Killian Tillie-less Zags that beat Duke.

Not to hijack the wagering thread but Zags could be a good buy low in the tourney
Was this a great wake up call, nothing worse than a team being complacent going into the dance on a 22 game winning streak or is this a confidence killer.

Zags looked completely frustrated and came unraveled down the stretch.

Do they really have the moxie to win 6 straight with the last three being against top 8 teams in the country?

I’m not saying they’ll win it all, I’m saying this may soften up the pointspreads

Oh I hear you on that,  I'm just saying it was such an under performance that the drop in lines might not actually give us any added value. That was a bad, bad loss.

As a fan, it’s a concern for sure. Just a complete 180. Not just in how they played, but in the coaching as well. Letting St. Mary’s dictate the game pace, not pressing, no other adjustments made, etc. I don’t know how you can come out complacent for your conference championship.

That said, they can get it together. In 2017 they lost a similar game to BYU at home on Senior Night and then went on to the championship game vs UNC. This team is probably better than that team was. But if they face a slow pace, plodding team like a UVA or Florida State I will be worried.

I didn't watch either of the previous games vs. St. Mary's, but I'm not sure more pressure would have been effective against those ball handlers last night.  I left that wondering how they got waxed like they did in the first two meetings - just struck me as a good match up against Gonzaga.  And had me thinking about your last statement.

Maybe not.  I looked at the game totals for the 2 games Gonzaga won.  The 48 point blowout only had about 8-9 more possessions per team than last night, but Gonzaga shot 66%, 44% from 3.  Last night, the Zags shot 51%/11%.  The other game Gonzaga won had similar number of possessions to last night, but they also shot better  So St Mary's has been successful for the most part in keeping the game at their pace.  Just an awful night last night from the guards.

Makes sense - I've never seen them shoot like that.

Lol. NC St. player  steps on clemson player's foot. Falls to ground.

Ref calls foul. If I played college basketball I would fall down all over the place. I would shoot about 38 free throws a game.

ETA: :lmao:  Two more flops by NC ST players lead to two more fouls.

That was a screwjob with the "foul" at the end for sure.  I'm not complaining though...

Not as good as last night--Trey McGowens of Pitt got tripped by a moving pick and fell down. As he scrambled into a pushup-style stance to try and get back up, the guy with the ball changed directions and came back toward him and "tripped" over McGowens' extended legs getting the foul called on McGowens.

With the increase in 3FGAtt, it won't take that long before it happens again.

We can all agree...the refs in college basketball are really inconsistent at best.  Most of the time they just call everything (and now review it).
