7 seed vs. an 8 seed

Shut this entire tournament down and do it my

way - 32 teams, best of 3's

we get more basketball amongst better teams.
Perhaps the dumbest idea I've ever heard regarding college hoops.
so you're the guy who gets the boner when a 15 seed beats a 2 I guess because of your "bracket"
The current tourneyment is wildly popular and single elimination is a major reason. Your idea would cripple casual fan interest. UConn won in 2011 and KU won in 2012 and was the preseason #1, throwing out their seeding and not thinking these are premier programs is silly.
if you've read any of my sports threads, i don't give a damn about fan interest or generating revenue. You are correct that for reasons I don't fully understand, people get huge boners off of one-off tournaments where there are wild upsets and instead don't about a tournament designed to produce the best basketball team as the champion the highest % of the time.

Really I'd like to take the top 16 teams and have best of 7's.... but I'm trying to compromise here.

Time has told us no team lower than 8 can win a tournament, so we can safely take 32 teams and have best of 3's and not be leaving any team out that would've had an honest shot at the title.

On paper, Ky is the best team anyway, probably, so this should be your wet dream.

As a Connecticut fan, the good news is that UK really doesn't seem to have much of an idea as to how to execute on offense. In terms of basketball IQ, they're pretty far down the ladder. And the Squid is not a good in-game coach.
I think this is one of those things that people hear and then it gets repeated until it's assumed to be true. Calipari doesn't get his teams this far only by being a master recruiter. It's not like he says "Go get 'em!" to the team then heads to the nearest bar for two hours.

Also, in Kentucky's last four wins in this very tournament, they have been leading at halftime in exactly zero of them. He makes adjustments.
I'll admit, I think Kentucky might have too much for us to handle.

But I'd love to be in room when Shifty (Calhoun) and Ollie get to talk and get down to business. Heck, Ollie's so on top of it, Shifty might just have been in his hotel room, eating greens and drinking NutriBullet per Pat's command. Could be interesting. Only thing I've seen out of Ollie I'd like is for him to work the refs more, or Calhoun's going to have to tromp down out of the stands and look like he's about to wring someone's neck.

We got a good coach; now what's left is the gem recruiting that Calhoun always seemed to pull out of his posterior to get guys to go to Storrs.
Kevin Ollie has picked up a useful ally in the recruiting wars: Kevin Durant. Durant is effusive with praise for Ollie, gone on record about what a great leader, teacher, and role model Ollie was for him and the rest of the Thunder the year the franchise made the jump from a 23-win team to a 50-win team.
I wasn't aware of this. Word gets around, too, so that's an encouraging sign.

Here is an article with Kevin Durant's thoughts on Ollie. High praise.

Durant, Lebron and Allen Iverson have all tweeted about Ollie in the last week. All openly recognize him as a special teammate during the short time they spent with him during his playing days. His preparation, his work ethic, professionalism. Regardless of what happens tomorrow night, UConn fans are giddy with the future.

$50 says he isn't the coach of uconn in 24 months.

Why would you say that? I guess there is a chance he would go to the NBA, but I can't see him being lured away from the UCONN gig by another college program.

cliffs notes of Tim's banning?
He gooned up the thread, declaring everything he saw in the past 5 minutes was the greatest ever. Just like in the CFB threads.
Link? What I wrote was that Kentucky's close wins, along with several other exciting games, have made this ONE of the most exciting tourneys ever. Who could argue with that?
I think people are trying to say that you get caught up in the moment, and in that moment you think whatever sporting event you are watching is EPIC "best ever" "one of the best!"

NBA. Thunder or whomever lures durant.

But this really IS one of the best...

Interesting seeing all the hate for UK...100% of the neutral parties at the game were pulling for UK. Mostly about not wanting to see UC v UW on Mon.
Randle is from the Dallas area, and the Harrison boys from Houston. So I'm guessing alot of neutral Texans were pulling for their boys.
Appreciate the connection...but that's not it.

UK is fun to watch, and they're presence brings energy. It's fun to watch a guy Randle's size move the way he does, and guards pound the paint the way the Twins do. A lot of biased thinking in this thread.

I'll take that one. PM me if you want to make it official.

Just for the record, if Kentucky wins Monday night, they will have 9 National Championships. They will still be behind the Bruins' 11. However, it will reaffirm Kentucky as the second greatest college basketball university.

No. Tim is a beat-off. You and Sinn Fein and Myshkin and the other UK guys I'm fine with.
Big Blue Nation is fortunate to have those three and the rest repping for them here. UK fans in general are taint-lickers, but I almost feel guilty about saying that in FFA because the UK regulars here are good dudes with solid info in their posts and can bring the funny. Without them I never would have discovered Internet superhero Kige Ramsey, and for that I am thankful. Plus, the Knitting thread was started by a UK homer, and that was one of the best threads here while it lasted.

Still will be rooting for UConn tomorrow, but since a UConn win would give that program more national titles in 15 years than KU has since the Earth cooled, I may regret that result.

Without Connecticut, Duke would have six.

Prediction Machine small lean to Kentucky and under. They were 1-1 sides and 2-0 totals on saturday but only the totals were deemed fully playable. Both side and total for champ game are deemed light plays. UK su is normal play. They have margin at UK by 4.2. Uconn going to be able to keep UK off offensive glass? Fla had 15 o-rebs. Uconn D great vs. fla and shot 55%, can they do that again? Why this line dropping?

Did an OK job on UF and a really good job on Sparty. ISU, oddly, killed them despite their lack of size.

UConn played 8 minutes without one of their bigs against UF and it was a decent look for them, don't think they'll be able to get away with that at all tomorrow. Brimah and Nolan are going to be huge.

UCLA just has to thank God that Indiana boys like John Wooden and Steve Alford have the patience to go out teach those California flakes what basketball is.

And that Pete Newell retired when he did.

I appreciate your fandom, but no one under 35 considers ucla a relevant basketball university.

Well, since they continue to do very well recruiting, I'd say that's not correct.

The good news is, it seems as though the UK students burned a lot of couches, among other things, saturday night so they may be light on things to burn tonight. The bad news is it seems as though they were just practicing for tonight.

When did burning couches become a thing to do?

It is raining here - so maybe that keeps things a little subdued if UK wins. Otherwise, I have a feeling things will be burning tonight win or lose - I mean when you have everything stacked for a burning, you pretty much have to light it when you are drunk, win or lose, right?

No moving the goalposts here. You made a silly comment about championships so you don't get to revise the argument to use recruiting a barometer of success. UCLA is not a championship contender and hasn't been in some time. The most recent "stacked" team got rolled by Derrick Rose and a bunch of guys who couldn't play for UCLA in the Final 4. Otherwise, there hasn't been a lot of March success out in Westwood for some time.

This couldn't be more accurate. But I would say they haven't been relevant for anyone under 50 not 35.

I agree they haven't been relevant lately. But they will be.
As a Vols football fan, I feel your pain. I don't understand how UCLA ever lost their mojo for basketball. Recruiting in LA alone should field a good team. The allure of Hollywood, hot chicks, the beach...how does any kid choose Kansas or Louisville over UCLA...?
