Napier on ESPN at 1 P.M., presumably to talk about the championship and his comments about the NCAA, which has now moved along a proposal for unlimited food for athletes after his comments about going to bed hungry at night per NCAA restrictions on meals and student-athletes.

Found out today I'll be attending the Allen Fieldhouse's 60th birthday party, a charity event in October before the season starts. Every KU head coach of the last 50 years (Ted Owens, Larry Brown, Roy Williams, Bill Self) will be on the Naismith Court sharing their favorite memories of the Phog and their time in Lawrence.

Thrilled to read the excitement among KU superfans about Roy Williams getting the opportunity to come back, stand with the other living KU coaches, and get the standing ovation he deserves. He was 201-17 in 15 seasons at the Phog, and put together some of the best and most exciting teams in the history of the program, but his exit was not handled well.

Gotta take the chalk here. That Rebs team was unbelievable.
Have to agree. 1993 Michigan is right there too, but still can't believe that Rebels team didn't win.
I was a year early on Duke. I bet a buddy of mine $100 on them in '90. The spread was UNLV -2, IIRC, because I remember his exact words when he accepted the bet.... "I think UNLV is a bucket better than Duke." Yeah.... either that or 30 points better. :topcat:

Then of course, I bet on UNLV in the rematch the following season, and we know what happened.

My favorite college team to watch ever. There was something great about staying up til 1:00 a.m. to watch them absolutely smother some nobody team in whatever conference they were in back then. The WAC maybe? It was like watching a Tyson fight.
The Big West, formerly known as the PCAA. It was mostly California land grant schools, like Long Beach State and Fresno State.

That 1991 UNLV team played a FANTASTIC non-conference game at Arkansas late in that season when UNLV was #1 and the Hogs were #2. Both teams ran the whole game (well, Oliver Miller occasionally threw a 70-foot outlet pass and waited for the game to come back to the other end), and UNLV pulled away in the second half. After LJ and Todd Day got ejected for a tustle that spilled into a ref, Arkansas made the score respectable, but UNLV looked unbeatable after that performance.

1997 Gophers should be in here. Like a four seed.
The Roy Williams team KU superfans seem to be most bitter about not winning it all is the 1997 team: Pierce, LaFrentz, Vaughn, Pollard. But that was a strong year for NCAA hoops and would have been a tough Final Four to survive. That was the best Gopher team in the century-plus of the program. UK and UNC were loaded, too.

I think its great that they are letting the season play out, and awarding everyone participation ribbons. I was worried that they would cancel the season and simply hand the trophy to Kentucky.

Charitable of UK to let everyone at least try.

I thought Duke was preseason #1?

For the past two weeks, ESPN Classic has been showing NIT games from the last several years. WTF?! Did they not have any bowling matches or WNBA games to show us? You have access to one of the greatest sports libraries in the world, and they are showing us games which nobody cared about when they were being played live!!!

Can't remember the last time I was this pumped up for the start of NCAA hoops. One of you please develop a solid capping system to increase the enjoyment even more.

UK got commits from Skal Labissiere and Isaiah Briscoe for 2015, meaning that they have the #1 recruiting class for next year. Crazy, I know.

Sounds like Labissiere may not play at all, given his elig. issues. He may be on the Mundiay program.

His saga is one of the strangest and shadiest I've seen. College basketball recruiting is dirty business. My guess is he goes the Brandon Jennings route and plays in Europe for a year before declaring for the draft. Not sure he goes as high as Jennings since he's missing out on playing time and Euros don't take kindly to Americans who only stay for a cup of coffee.

I think he stays at UK, and goes the Enes Kanter route - practice and workout with the team and get in front of scouts that way.

Labissiere and World Peace could be the new dynamic duo.

My homies from Bryant are dominating UCONN! :excited:
They never seem to do that well against non-conference patsies. This seems pretty standard where a crummy team will hang with them for 30 min., and then they'll easily dispatch them in the last 10.

Their last two non-exhibition games kinda followed the same script.
