There's an insider article today on first year coaches that I think talk about us. Would appreciate if someone was willing to PM or post the relevant section. Tight budget = no subscription.

It's official: Kansas at Kentucky, Rupp Arena, January 28, 2017.  Prime time signature game of the 2017 Big XII-SEC Challenge.

Between playing Duke at MSG and UK at Rupp, it's going to be quite the non-conference adventure.

Never been to a game at Rupp and always wanted to go.  I suppose there are cheaper options just to see a game at Lexington, but this is two teams with national title aspirations.  So this will be in my Treat Yo Self 2017 list.

3. Jerod Haase, Stanford Cardinal

Rosco Allen has declared for the NBA draft, but he didn't hire an agent. If Allen returns for his senior season, Haase will have a first-team All-Pac-12 performer to build around in 2016-17. If not, the new coach will instead load even more possessions on the likes of Michael HumphreyDorian Pickensand Marcus Allen. Either way, the Cardinal will have to achieve better results on the perimeter, where last season the team ranked last in the league (by a large margin) in 3-point accuracy during Pac-12 play. Opponents were happy to pack the paint on defense, and there was little Stanford could do about it. Conversely, at UAB Haase relied on outside threats like Robert BrownNick Norton andDirk Williams. The new coach will want to bring some of that same spirit to Palo Alto.

Thank you!

Briscoe returning to UK (good news!) and Marcus Lee transferring.  Feel sorry for Lee - Super good kid that just never developed in 3 years, and was going to sit the bench this year with 6 other players 6'9" or taller on the roster.  Hope he makes a ton of money playing overseas somewhere.

Trimble returning to MD. Evidently, he was told at the combine that he probably wouldn't be drafted. I wonder what that does to his confidence after being so hyped coming into last season.

Rosco Allen stayed in draft. Not the decision I would have made. Best of luck to him. Could maybe get an un drafted contract in Phoenix or Brooklyn

Usually traveling that weekend, but if for some irrational reason you want to come to KC in mid-December, I'll try to hook you up.
word.  I was actually thinking about it, when in my head I was thinking that they were playing at the Phog.  I still may consider it.

In other news, Davidson signed a PG for next year who is now up to number 82 on scout.com's prospect list, giving Davidson its first-ever top-100 recruit.  Long live the A-10 and god bless you Steph Curry.

Dylan Ennis, a transfer from Villanova last year to Oregon, just got approved by the NCAA for another year.  He only played in 1 or 2 games last year and hurt his foot.  Before the season started, Altman said he was the best player on the team.  He is a point guard, great shooter.  This will be the best team as far as talent goes the Ducks have ever had.

I'll be back to post the details when I have time, but my beloved Arkansas Razorbacks are going to sneak up on a lot of Teams this year coming off last year's underwhelming 16-16 Season. Potential for a huge bounce-back. Woo Pig Soooiiiee!!!

:goodposting:

get way more excited for these lists than any adult every should. Arkansas is especially fun this year because they're simultaneously overrated and underrated. They're going to be way better than the 74th team in college basketball. Certainly, if Kingsley is the SEC player of the year and a top 20 player and Dusty Hannahs is a top 100 player, they can be a top 15 or so team.

I don't think that's probably going to happen. I think somewhere between 20-40 sounds right depending on how well the 3 transfers and Anton Beard adjust.

First exhibition game for the Cats tonight!  Hard to believe it's that time of year already...
I hope Cal puts everyone in bubble wrap. I've got tickets to the Champions Classic, but the players I'm excited to see are dropping like flies. Duke and Mich St may not have anyone left in a couple weeks.

That's not usually Cal's M.O.    He gets criticized around here some for leaving stars in too much, but he's been pretty fortunate on the injury front during his time here

If preseason is an indicator of regular season performance, Kansas will have some hair height not seen in the program since the Ted Owens days.  Frank Mason III walked into his barbershop with a photo of Kid from Kid'N'Play and said "make me look like him", Devonte Graham is going full Afro, and newcomer Josh Jackson is sporting something from the Sideshow Bob collection.

After the mature, laid-back leadership of Wayne Selden and Perry Ellis, this edition is going to have a lot more swagger.  Whether that is also an improvement or not is yet to be seen.

Perry Ellis' Rivals page is etched in the Lascaux Caves.

KU - Duke. 11 fouls in first 5 minutes.  Refs need to learn to swallow a whistle.

The KU Indiana game had a combined 63 fouls called in 45 minutes.  7 players fouled out, including 4 starters.

Would be posting more about the game, but I picked up three fouls while trying to log in.

Lots of talent on both sides.  Too bad the whistles are going to decide it.

I like how Duke has a guy named "Jeter" and he's wearing jersey number 2.

Makes it so much easier for all the Yankees fans who root for Duke basketball during the offseason.

I love these early season game but they are more watchable once conference play starts and the officials quit calling every ticky tack thing.

Really like the changes Self & co made to the halfcourt offense this season.  Not too hung up on pounding the ball inside, not a bunch of mechanical passing around the perimeter using up 15 seconds to try to set something up in the corner.

Yeah, I have no idea what point they're trying to make. This is at least the fourth season in a row they have called it tight, tight, tight in the early season and then let things settle down in conference play.

UMass-Mississippi last night was almost unwatchable ... 57 fouls, 82 free throws and that was in a one-possession game with no fouling at the end.

.125 on threes, .474 on ones.  Won the game.

Controlled the glass at both ends, but Duke didn't even try to get offensive rebounds.

Hard to get too much up-and-down action going because of all the whistles, but liked the transition offense when they were able to execute it.  Jackson will be a huge asset starting and finishing breaks, and Svi's new role as backup SF/PF is going to be outstanding for ball movement and floor spacing.

Rhode Island with a great win yesterday over a tough Cincy team.  They face off against Duke now which is a little banged up. #### Duke, #### Ratface.

Let's go Rhody!

Was surprised to see how effective Azubuike (this guys needs a nickname in the worst way) was in the Duke game. He's a powerful dude. How long until he's starting ahead of Lucas? Azu might bring some offense that we know Lucas doesn't have.

Jackson has sick penetration game. After so many disappointing one and dones like Henry, Selby, McClemore, Wiggins, Diallo, ... perhaps Jackson is the messiah we've been waiting for?

hope Garrett is ok.  That would definitely not be good for them if he is out for an extended period.  A-10 pride.
Local papers today seemed to indicate he could be back relatively quick. It is just nice to have the Rams be relevant in the college basketball scene.  They really needed yesterday's win as that will be a big one for their tourney resume.  A win today would be amazing, tall order for sure though.
