Back to the argument at hand, you equated race with politics (rightly) and said it didn't have any place in this thread (wrongly*). The concept of a "student-athlete" is a canard. Basketball players or football players whose labor directly generates money for their school should be treated as employees, not put in some made-up box that was created by the NCAA decades ago in order to give themselves a reason for justifying their existence.**
If you really have an issue with young adults getting paid, fine. That's a dumb opinion, because they're working for the benefit of the university, just like a student who punches tickets at a parking garage, but fine. Do you have an issue with junior league hockey players getting paid? Or soccer players on youth squads? Maybe you do, but I'd be surprised if you had ever even thought about it.
But, there are most certainly some people that oppose student-athletes getting paid because the idea of a young POC getting money (or, having a piece of the pie that they're generating) bothers them on a deep level. To deny that is to just deny that racism exists towards black people in the US, which is a ####### ridiculous premise. To say "OK, you can get paid but you can only make a flat amount no matter where you go" is nearly as ridiculous.
And, really, most college athletes who play revenue-generating sports
are paid, just not officially. As we've seen. Ayton got paid. certainly a lot of other dudes got paid too. It will always happen. Even after whatever this FBI investigation is, it'll never stop until it's just regulated.
