Stewart Mandel @slmandel :Ramblin Wreck said:UVA trailed Louisville most of the night. Down 5 with 10 seconds left. They hit a 3 then foul Louisville. Cards make both to go up 4. Instead of just letting UVA have a meaningless three point attempt they foul the shooter with 0.9 seconds left. He hits first two. Misses third on purpose but it was a lane violation on UVA so Louisville gets to inbound the ball. That kid travelled instead of keeping his feet still so ball goes back to UVA. They throw it in and hit a 27 footer off glass at buzzer to win it. Crazy ending.
After watching his pc and hearing people break down his written speech I still feel like miller is a dead man walking after all of this as is the zona administration.I went to Arizona and have been a basketball fan since the days of Steve Kerr and Sean Elliott. I'm also a former newspaper reporter. This ESPN story was total garbage. First ESPN said the recording of Sean Miller and Christian Dawkins discussing DeAndre Ayton took place in 2017. Then it said spring 2016. Then it said no, it was just 2016. Meanwhile, another publication said, according to the FBI, the recordings were from June to September 2017. Ayton was already enrolled at Arizona in June 2017, so why would Miller be discussing trying to get him to the school? Then ESPN basically admits that it never saw the transcripts or listened to the recording, and that its source wasn't the FBI, but a defendant or defense counsel. THEN finally it changed its timeline AGAIN and put the date of the recording back to 2017. Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated has reported that Dawkins sought payment from Miller for a different recruit, not Ayton (whom the school cleared to continue playing). ESPN doubled down and said it stands by the report.
At best, this is a story ESPN rushed to air before knowing important facts that basic journalism practice dictates it should have waited to confirm. At worst, the allegations are false, and ESPN got used by a defense attorney spinning a story to help his client, and in the meantime, Arizona lost Shareef O'Neal as a recruit to a rival school and had its coach essentially suspended for the third-to-last game of the season.
The school could have had him clamped down pending their lawyers signing off.Why did he sit out if he was innocent? If I was accused of something like this and I knew there was no possible way for it to be true I would be more defiant form the get go.
His speech was just too calculated. Much like a Clinton one.The school could have had him clamped down pending their lawyers signing off.
Put me also in the group that thinks there is still something there though.
I'm not naive enough to think that Arizona is squeaky clean, or that there's no possibility there's truth in the ESPN report. An Arizona assistant was indicted, after all. This wasn't even a case of "we're standing behind our reporting." This was a case of "here's the story; no, wait, just need to correct this -- there, that's the story; actually, that's not quite right, all fixed now; um, hold on, go back to what we said originally." This story has the potential to ruin the program for years, not to mention a coach's career and a draft prospect's credibility. But who cares? ESPN was first! After watching his pc and hearing people break down his written speech I still feel like miller is a dead man walking after all of this as is the zona administration.

Why not? What does he have to lose? This tape isn't coming out for months or years, if ever, anyway. If I was guilty as hell, I'd still say every single thing Miller is saying. if this is all true, he's ####ed anyway. I'd probably be even more defiant. Like Tricky Ricky.I tend to believe Miller. Why would he bold face lie if he knows the conversation happened and the FBI has a tape of it?
I wouldn’t. But maybe I am too prideful to deal with the after effects when the truth did come out.Rirruto said:Why not? What does he have to lose? But mark me down for the story is not technically true. Like he's on tape discussing a $100k payment to some other recruit and DeAndre is mentioned in the call.
Carolina/Duke will probably still get some viewers.First Ticket to the Dance gets punched tonight!!!
8PM OVC Championship: #2 Belmont v #1 Murray St. ESPN2...
...if the powers that be really cared, this game wouldn't be scheduled directly across from Carolina-Duke.
I don’t know if you are drunk right now but you are definitely stupid. Now I cheer for UGA. Quietly cheer, but I’ll cheer.
I hate myself.

Oh, they care. Probably just not what the rest of us care about. Why would you be under the impression that they care?
I watched Karate Kid with Patrick Ewing.Watching Nova/Georgetown and it's apparent that Villanova is miles better, but I SO hope Ewing can make the Hoyas relevant again. Not only because I love DC-area hoops, but for the coach himself. The crap that guy had to endure when he played was disgraceful.
For those too young to have seen Ewing play in college, he was absolutely terrifying. I was at a game when he was a Freshman at the old Cap Centre (RIP) and the Hoyas were playing UVA when Ralph Sampson was a Senior (that in itself is amazing). There was a scrum on a loose ball in the lane. Ewing reached down with one of those giant hands of his, snatched the ball, whirled, and slammed it right over Ralph. It's still the mightiest dunk I've ever seen, but Ewing would cower his opponents like this all of the time. He also played through his senior year and lost to Nova in a classic.
As a coach, we'll see how he does. Seems like he has a decent recruiting thing going on. He ain't missed many meals, though![]()

Greatest Sooner hoopster of all time.Wayman Tinsdale...R.I.P.)
Wayman Tisdale was a helluva player, too. Plus a damned good guitar player, IIRC.I watched Karate Kid with Patrick Ewing.
Not exactly with him per se, but he (and Wayman Tinsdale...R.I.P.) was in a pretty much empty theater in the middle of the week in the summer of 1984 in Bloomington, IN when they were on the Olympic team coached by Bob Knight. He was the tallest human I had ever seen.
My mom knew who he was. Still have his autograph somewhere.
They wanted to play in MSG and the Big East has the building next weekend.I’m sure it’s been discussed but I haven’t watched much hoops this season. Why the hell is the Big Ten Tournament this weekend? I will just assume the answer is rest but come on - this is stupid, right?
ouchThey wanted to play in MSG and the Big East has the building next weekend.
Over the line bud!I hope Paul Johnson is your head coach for another 25 years.
What’s wrong with it being this weekend?I’m sure it’s been discussed but I haven’t watched much hoops this season. Why the hell is the Big Ten Tournament this weekend? I will just assume the answer is rest but come on - this is stupid, right?
I don't get a chance to watch much college basketball these days, but it's really odd watching this iteration of UNC-Duke. For many years, one team generally featured tall, long, athletic dudes that owned the paint, and the other featured scrappy upperclassmen with no real NBA prospects and had to rely on jacking up 3's. It still does, but they switched.Welcome to the woodshed, UNC. Have a seat.
For me, it's that they're gonna be off for almost two weeks before the NCAAs start. Plus, they had to both compress the conference schedule and start it earlier. I'm not against change, but I think this was bad for both the teams and the fans. What’s wrong with it being this weekend?

I like having all the top conferences the same week leading up to selection Sunday. I got it when the Big East went to a Saturday night championship. This doesn’t make much sense to me except for what RW said. What’s wrong with it being this weekend?
Teams in other conferences have had their tournaments two weeks early for years. For me, it's that they're gonna be off for almost two weeks before the NCAAs start. Been a good game so far. Wichita State just call for their 30 timeout in 30 games.Wichita/Cincy already a street fight. O/U on ejections starting at 2 and rising.
That was a fun game. Both squads have playmakers.Great win for Cincinnati. Koch Arena has a big HCA.
It's not about fair. Those smaller conferences aren't required to have their tourneys early. They do it to get exposure without competing with the power conference tourneys.Teams in other conferences have had their tournaments two weeks early for years.![]()
They could make it more fair and rotate them out year to year, but the almighty ratings probably would prevent this.
My understanding is that they promised to hold the tourney in NYC as part of the deal to get Rutgers to join the conference, and then as noted above , couldn’t get the arena for the normal dates. It's not about fair. Those smaller conferences aren't required to have their tourneys early. They do it to get exposure without competing with the power conference tourneys.
Which again points to why this seems like such a bush league move by the Big 10.
