Need a keeper league "how-to" (1 Viewer)

One of the FF leagues I'm in is considering a move to a keeper league, but there's a lot of disagreements on how a keeper league "should" be run. Obviously, there are a number of different ways to do it, but I'm looking for some info on the most common implementations and rulesets.

So, can someone provide me some info, or point me in a good direction to help me out?

We keep it pretty simple. Each year you get to keep 2 players from last year squad. That's it. It's pretty simple. If you want to keep the same guy year after year you can. On guy kept Farve for 9 strait years. Another guy has had Tomlinson from his rookie year on out.

I think there are way too many options for a keeper league. It can be anywhere like:

-keep 1 player or more players

-swap draft picks to keep players

- bid on players and retain their salaries from year to year

- bid on players and have their salary increase by a fixed amount year to year (you have the option of keeping them or not)

- Bid on players and keep their salary year over year, but signing them to fixed contracts after which they can't be kept.

Some questions you want to ask yourself:

- Auction or Draft system?

- Limit the number of players kept year-after year?

- Force players to rotate over time, or allow teams to build dynasties

Once you answer those questions, then you'll have a better idea of what kind of keeper/career league system will work for you.

:goodposting: I think that's the best way to run it. Keep 2 players and that's it. Very simple. It also makes the 1st round of the draft very interesting, since there are not as many blue chip players available and rookies like Reggie Bush are much more valuable.

For me the best part of fantasy football, heck the best part of my year is the draft. It is no fun every year if you get to keep any player you want so we have a rule in our league that you can keep up to 2 players, however they must be selected in Rounds 6 and above, therefore keeping all of the best players in the pool for the next year. This gives the edge to people who take chances on lesser known talent. Last year I drafted Steve Smith in Rd 7 and should have drafted LJ in round 9 but thought he would be there in the next round. I would have kept both of those guys. Now if you keep one, then you lose your draft pick next year in the round that you selected that player (take smith in Rd 7, lose a 7th round pick). However, if you keep 2, you lose those picks as well as your third round pick. This ensures that teams who are successful drafting late do not become too dominant as teams will drop out year to year
