Good boy. Have a biscuit. NOW GO OUTSIDE.I absolutely love how this has gone 17 minutes without a single reply. And for the record:
I am going to discuss the idea of the dogs being indoors with my wife tonight. We will make sure to do this right and if we feel it isn't OK to keep the dogs outside, we won't do it. Contrary to popular belief, I have learned a lot in this thread and wasted way too much time at work reading articles on the problems of keeping dogs outside. I will be talking with a local vet I respect and get his opinion.
Thanks for the thoughtful response above, Rooster and for those who honestly chipped in without being total D-bags.
Schtick aside, I didn't find that to be true. Less than 1% of the time I owned dogs did I ever have to "be in charge" -- usually when connected with vehicular traffic which was beyond their comprehension levels. I'd tell them "stop", they'd later shove me and tell me it was time to go hiking or wading, or time to go to bed. Pretty equal relationship really,Well, all shtick aside... that is kinda true. And as long as the pets see the family as masters, rather than as friends.I think he was probably high or joking there too. Guy obviously LOVES animals and taking care of them...as long as they don't come anywhere near him or his family.
Yup standard behavior around here I guess. Make fun of any human condition you want, but don't dare suggest dogs or cats aren't equal to humans or you can be subject to any amount of mocking and name calling and even threats and insults to family members.ETA: and even staff members join in the piling on. Hooray!!at "jack rod"
Yeah, be careful Ned...aligning with me is dangerous around here. I made an off color joke about cats and suggested I might keep dogs outside. I'm public enemy #1.When you replied to his post and said it was kinda true without offering any additional explanation.Where did I say that?Huh?You only love pets if they see you as a master, and not a friend?Well, all shtick aside... that is kinda true. And as long as the pets see the family as masters, rather than as friends.I think he was probably high or joking there too. Guy obviously LOVES animals and taking care of them...as long as they don't come anywhere near him or his family.

No way anyone can hear with that expansive tract of land.bigbottom said:What is the plan if your neighbors start complaining about your barking dogs outside 24/7? That may not be an issue on the farm or ranch, but it will be in suburbia.
Ummm yes, you were piling on and I guarantee you I am a great pet owner and love dogs. You read a handful of posts and think you know everything about my relationship with pets?not trying to pile on, and don't think the name calling is warranted.
but I think you've made your position on pets pretty clear over time, so I'm not sure why you are surprised by the responses you are getting.
I've seen what you've posted here in the past on several different occasions. I'm not reading something into your posts that isn't there, as clearly many many others here have picked up on the same exact themes. If you have a problem with any of that then so be it. But don't be a jerk Aaron and then act like it's justified and I brought it on myself.
Absolutely bizarre. As though being an equal friend with an animal will subjugate you.As for the poor guy who was tormented when asking for advice about getting rid of his cats at his wife's request, I still stand behind the idea that marriage is way more valuable than any pet and will argue with anyone who suggests otherwise. I love pets but they are absolutely second class citizens compared to any person. I'm sorry if you disagree, but I think the alternative is a very messed up set of priorities. I maybe could have worded things better, but I stand by the basis of my arguments in there.

Yup you've gotten me all figured out Aaron. I'm a longtime fisherman in here. In fact, I don't even believe in Jesus. I think abortion is awesome and that divorcing your wife because she wants to get rid of your cats is a great idea.I've seen what you've posted here in the past on several different occasions. As I said originally, I think you like to. I notice you often take rather extreme positions on a topic which are almost certain to generate strong reactions, and then you tend to dig in your heels when people start to question them.
I get it now. Pets threaten your family.I think marriage and children and people in general are absolutely the most valuable things on this planet and I hate anything that threatens those things.
Yup precisely.I get it now. Pets threaten your family.I think marriage and children and people in general are absolutely the most valuable things on this planet and I hate anything that threatens those things.
Instead of getting 2 dogs I suggest you go to a bait and tackle shop, get 3 dozen crappie minnows for $5, and slap the #### out of them. Show them who's boss. That's the only way to keep them from threatening you.
He did go with "Brood of Vipers" on occasion.Makes sense. Jesus was known to call people Captain Jackass.
You read a handful of posts and think you know everything about my relationship with pets?
How much does a grenade covered in catnip cost?
well, those are the two instances that came to mind immediately and probably what I associate with you the most, right or wrong. I never had an issue with you really apart from thinking you were twisted in that feral cat thread, and I obviously don't see everything you post.I take stances on things that I think matter. Outside of going to far in the feral cat thread and making outlandish claims about LeBron's jumpshot because I think Cliff is a blowhard, what other extreme positions have I taken?
Dogs need rules and boundaries like we all do but the need to be an "alpha dog" is based on flawed research.Schtick aside, I didn't find that to be true. Less than 1% of the time I owned dogs did I ever have to "be in charge" -- usually when connected with vehicular traffic which was beyond their comprehension levels. Yeah no kidding. I was scared and I was just watching the video. They put a baby in front of one of them to help socialize it?? SMH.holy ####These dogs love the outdoors and they eat pit bulls for snacks :bonus!:
Some great info in there, but I really don't think Jayrod is interested in it. I've posted a few links and some advice based on personal experience but he hasn't posted any evidence he's actually taken the time to read it or even reply to my posts.Just another opinion. Not that you need another one. http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIPS/DogTip_BackyardDogs.php

I posted earlier, even though he's going to discus this situation with his wife to persuade her to let the dogs indoors, that has red flags all over it. I predict there will be 2 new shelter dogs within a couple years. If you're persuading your wife to let the pets come inside, how dedicated will she be when weekend plans need to be cancelled because an issue came up with a dog? Or clean out an ear for a month and put drops in it because they got an ear infection? Or even do the necessary research to find a good breeder in the first place?
Excellent taste in links here.Just another opinion. Not that you need another one. http://www.paw-rescue.org/PAW/PETTIPS/DogTip_BackyardDogs.php

You've got a big heart man, being the ONLY one who wanted to keep such a troublesome cat instead of killing it.Ummm yes, you were piling on and I guarantee you I am a great pet owner and love dogs. You read a handful of posts and think you know everything about my relationship with pets?not trying to pile on, and don't think the name calling is warranted.

We have had two cats in the last 12 years and have taken great care of them. Cinnamon was a beautiful orange Tabby that we kept exclusively indoors. It came to us declawed but it started bolting out once we had our son and one time never came home. We put up fliers and looked for her for a month. We were upset for a long time over losing her.
A year later my wife wanted another cat, so we adopted a black kitten named Frankie. He was a boy and we had problems with him peeing on things. He was neutered, but we still had issues with him peeing. We became religious about changing his litter daily (fell on me alone during baby#2) and the peeing stopped. Then we moved into a house with three other cats (my grandmas) while we waited for our new house purchase via short sale to go through. A year later, we are still here waiting. Frank had issues peeing around a lot, but seems to have settled in finally. At one point I was the ONLY one who wanted to still keep him.
