Need some Carolina Panthers homers.... (1 Viewer)

Obviously, the 1st TD looked like broken coverage.

But the 2nd TD he just absolutely took control of the situation and went up and got the ball.

The 3rd TD was a very nice play by Nicks. To know where his QB is and keep the play alive and get open.

His other catch that wasn't a TD was a VERY nice sideline grab where Nicks simply overmatched the defense.

Now what I would like to know is, what was the caliber of players that were covering Nicks on those particular plays?

Is he really great or was he simply taking advantages of mismatches?

He's going to be a good player.

First TD was busted coverage. The CB covered his zone and released to safety, but the safety help over the top was very late in getting over.

2nd TD, was good coverage, the CB just got beat by not playing the ball, but by playing the WR. Munnerlyn (41) is our nickle CB.

3rd TD he just stayed alive. Can't fault Marshall (our #2 cb) as he stayed with him, but once Hicks turned back outside, Marshall couldn't get back and might have slipped a bit turning back outside.

All that said, I think he's going to be a good player. He's not going to get 48td's this year. I'm not sure I even expect him to average a TD per game at this point. If I had to guess, I'm thinking 81/1075/14 by end of year.

Interesting question.I think the truly great rarely miss on taking advantage of opportunities.

I think Nicks is on the road to becoming great.

The panthers were doubling Steve Smith for much of the game. Nicks & Manningham took advantage.

Pick your poison with this group of receivers.

According to Bob Papa & Carl Banks (they do a recap show on the Giants official website) on the 3rd TD, Nicks was running across the endzone to the right, then saw ELi rolling out to the left, so Nicks reversed direction, leaving the man covering him and made the diving catch. Very heads up play by Nicks.

I'd be curious to hear what's going on with the Carolina secondary. I thought they were supposed to be pretty highly rated so I was surprised they allowed 3 passing TDs. They did have 3 INTs though. How are they looking?

Just like anything else, they looked good but when you are on the field for over half the game you are going to make mistakes and get tired. The Panther d as a whole was actually good. The problem was Matt Moore kept throwing ints.

Fox is a front 7 guy. We heard in preseason that the d line was the shizzle. Regular season comes, they play a team with a solid QB and oline, and the fireworks start. The Giants Colts matchup is interesting cuz the way you beat the Colts is by running, not passing.
