New Look For The Footballguys Webpage (1 Viewer)

I'm surprised so many people liked the old yellow design. I always thought it looked horrible.

The new design is better. Definitely not great, but better. Glad to hear the grass is going. I'll pony up the subscription every year for the content, so I personally couldn't care less if they smeared their projections in digital poo as long as I could read them.

You would think, however, that paying customers could get a professionally designed site without ads. But whatever. Keep up the good work guys, at least content-wise. That's what keeps me coming back.

I hope this doesn't turn into a computer nerd fight
It's all good pht,There are lots of smart people here and hashing this stuff out is nearly always productive. If we're going to throw stuff out there like we're somebody, getting the feedback is part of the deal. Not much room for sensitive people in something like this. I always am interested in what smart people have to say on things.J
Ok, then get rid of PPR and 4 pts for a throwing TD (make it 6)As for the site, I want ease of moving around and getting to the content I want. This site is NOT for eye candy.

Can someone help me locate the Depth Charts on the new site? :goodposting:

I've been looking through the various tabs but cannot easily find them?

Thanks!!! Q

Depth Charts are at the VERY BOTTOM of the forecast page....Plus they are linked right off the home page on the left side...

Your right they are hard to find since they are at the bottom ...

I've enjoyed checking out the new format :lmao: and even on a dial-up/modem hook-up I'm not having any issues with wavy grass or exceptionally lengthy page loads .... one thing I'm really having a problem with though

I can't seem to be able to find an entry port into the historic articles archives ... :lmao: ... anyone know how we access this stuff?

I'm specifically looking for data/information on Salary Cap/Contract League structure, set-up etc ... :lmao: ... and I'm sure there have been articles written either by staff members or various message board writers on the subject. :lmao:

Anyone help me out here???

If you go into the Why Subscribe page, there's a link there to get to 2006 content. Click on 2006 preseason content you'll get a site that looks like the old one with all of last year's articles. Not sure about prior to 2006 though...I think they said they were working on converting those pages to the new format.

They could always elimiinate ad displays when you login, but I would dare say even with all the subscribers FBGs get - this isn't a money making machine. Otherwise, they would have put out the money for a design firm to do some IA, and at least wireframes for the layout, instead of the bad design they went with.Their content rules though, so people will come back continually.

I don't see what everyone's beef with the grass graphic was. It was professionally made and it matched the rest of the site, since it fit the color scheme but wasn't distracting enough to draw attention away from the main section. The huge amount of white space in the background now is incredibly distracting and the site looks worse because of it. The contrast draws the eye away from the content instead of towards it.

It was immensely distracting, plus a huge download, plus on the pages with dynamic sliding content, the grass would move awkwardly, which is decidedly unprofessional.

As Construction Man Jim mentioned, they made a good choice getting rid of the grass, but they still have work to do to make the color scheme work for the design/layout of the page. There needs to be MORE contrast. Right now, the background of the page and the background of the content are way too similar (they may even be the same color?) that the content gets lost. By going with either a significantly darker background color or a significantly lighter background color (white, I guess?) the eye will be drawn to the content in the middle of the page. Right now, both content and background are on some sort of light beige background. They need to go with a more drastic color contrast...either way, it's a HUGE step up from that grass... :lmao:

Thanks for getting rid of the grass...........the site and my laptop are happy with one another once again!!

Excellent job in getting rid of the grass.

If I could be a bit picky about it though... the white on white doesn't really do much for me. Going a few shades darker on the outside background would be another step in the right direction.

Also a Subscriber Home Page and dumping the Ads upon logging in as a subscriber is still something I would vote for implimenting.

I'd suggest using the same beige that's in the welcome box.

Two points:

1) The grass was very distracting and resulted in a certain discomfort when viewing the site (for those of us with ADD). Simple and straightforward is always best.

2) The most important aspect of a web site is to delinate links so that they are easy to identify and self-explanitory.

So many professional web sites miss these simple concepts. Luckily, FBG is not one of those organizations.

I hate circuitous logic, it hurts my head.

I didn't care for the grass. The look and feel is better without it. As for the links, I'm still stumbling around trying to figure out where stuff has moved to.

As for the daily email - THANKS for including the audible links in the email. My blackberry hits those and I'm able to put on my headset and listen on my way into work.

Site has a pretty major facelift. Thanks to our smart guys Keith Overton, Doug Drinen, Jason Wood and of course my partner, David Dodds here.

It's a work in progress and I'm sure we'll have some things to work out. Please let us know what you see here and we'll try to jump on them. Thanks for being patient.

Joe,I see an issue that is still unaddressed that may be important to some.

When you open-up the site, it's not apparent when the new updates to DD, PD, etc., are released. With the old scheme, all the new items (articles, tools, etc.) were easily seen. That's no longer the case and it seems inefficient to have to go and check every day to see if a new tool is posted. It's one of those things that I'd like to see as soon as I hit the footballguys.com website: "Oh look, there's a new Draft Dominator. Cool."

Anyway to change that?

Thanks,

Joel

Joe,I love the "Must see Content" on the main page.

Great compromise!

Thanks,

Joel

Having a lot of issues using the new site in Safari (both the 3.0 beta and 2.0.x). After logging in the page renders incorrectly, and all links seem to fail.

Let me know if you need further details and I'll document the problems in more detail.
