New NBA rule coming soon - the 4 pointer (1 Viewer)

Sources are reporting in the next 2 to 3 years, the NBA is planning on adding a four point shot. The distance being discussed is the 28 to 32 foot range. The idea is that the four point shot will create some new excitement in the game and make the end of quarters and games more interesting.

I think its a good idea. What do you guys think?

a while ago there was this MTV show where they had the basket like way up in the air and I think it moved up and down. you really had to heave it to get it up there. I wont watch the nba until they implement this.

At some point the math will simply become too difficult for the dunderheads which they have playing this sport.

Not a big fan of the 4 point shot but they have to do something to increase spacing. I'd prefer just widening the court, and maybe making the 3 point shot longer. 4 pointer probably does similar things.

Rock and Jock. They had 10 pt spots from deep 3 range and a 25 pt basket about 20 ft up and eventually a 50 pt basket about 30-35 feet up. Tim Hardaway is the only person to have ever sank the 50 pointer.

"No one at the NBA,nor the competition committee, has had any serious conversations about increasing the size of the floor or adding a 4-point line. Rod Thorn and Kiki VanDeWeghe were entertaining a line of questioning about out of the box ideas and ESPN chose to make a story that doesn't exist.”

Make the corner three the right length and everything will be fine. Widen the court three feet and let's move on.

Agreed. I doubt they ever go 4 point play b/c the efficiency of shooting 25% from 4 would be like shooting 50% from 2. You'll just get tons of guys jacking up shots. Scoring might go up a bit but you'd have a ton more missed shots.

If you put the 4 beyond a reasonable 25% range, it would mostly come into play when teams are down and trying to come back, which seems on the surface to me like it would make the game a little more interesting and exciting.

Then its just a cheap trick to make the end game more important and devalue the rest of the game.

brohans i think one time they asked antwan walker hey antwan why do you shoot all those threes and he said back because there aint no fours and i remember thinking thats damn straight right there bam take that to the bank brohans

Probably what they said about the 3 pointer too.

This is outdated info.

Terrible idea. But I don't like the 3 pointer either. Too many guys shooting bricks. Get rid of the 3 pointer, get rid of zone defenses, and play the game the way it was meant to be played.

Ok Great Grandpa. Lets bust out the ole peach baskets and nuthuggers.

with a jump ball after every made basket???
Works in hockey.
Yeah, I'm not sure the hockey model is the one I would follow if I were the NBA.
What if we include midget goalies sitting on top of the backboards?

and they were correct

Let me know when they implement the full court instant win shot.

You are always in the game. If you are down 20 with 3 minutes to go, you just let the other team score and you launch your full court instant win attempts.

What they need to do is have different zones on the floor with different point values like an arcade. Then players can choose whether to go for anything up to ten. Then have a different sound depending on the number just scored. And also a way to tip the floor so that the winning team is always going uphill.

Nuthuggers need to make a comeback.

I'm 5'6". I blame basketball for starting the shorts-length trend that now means it's impossible for me to buy a pair of shorts off the rack aren't capri's.

Down 11 with one minute left? No problem. All we need is a FG a TD and then a 2 pt Conversion.
