I thought level 4 was ridiculously easy. :blackdot:
I did also, but challenge 1 has gotten me twice already.I didn't reinforce Russia in 4 - I just invaded France and marched through Europe. 25 moves. If Russia hadn't gotten in my way a few times and made me take the long way around, I'm guessing I would have beaten it earlier.
Just did challenge 1 on my 1st try
Where did you start, what did you do?My best attempt so far started in southern Africa. I took Africa, Antactica, and South America before a monster army just walked through everything I had.
I started in western USA, captured the continent, the swept into SA, then Africa and Antarctica, and then it was pretty much over. I was very suprised, because I'm getting hammered on level 4 right now.

You got very lucky then. The AI teams must have been fighting each other. I just started in Eastern USA, had just captured the Continent, and got hit with 25 strength armies from 3 different teams invading from South America, Hawaii, and Greenland. Basically every access point except Alaska. No chance.

very addicting game.. haven't even gotten to the 1st challenge or multi-player yet. First four single player levels were fun though. :goodposting:

44 turnsI started in Africa, was able to take over the whole continent w/o any resistance, then went down and took antarctica then south america, etc...
Won in 46, started in eastern europe with 3 enemies surrounding me (within 2-3 turns of making contact). Very tough.Screwed around on level one.

ETA - real picture, some odd reason Jojo's picture came up with my first link.
FINALLY!

55 turns. :bag:

Started in Australia, went into Asia, got kicked out and thought game over. Went to South America via Antarctica, eventually took over the Americas and made my triumphant return to Asia. And when I say eventually, I mean a long time later. Only way I survived was the AI teams started fighting over the scraps of my empire.

just cant get by that challenge 1. I usually start well then one of the teams get dwindled down to 1 or 2, and the strong team just kicks my ###.

Awesome game, brings back some memories.

Can anyone recommend a Risk type game for the PC? I see that Risk II from Hasbro came out in 2000?

This is where I was. Played it 6 times last night. Finally got a game where both AI teams stayed relatively the same and helped keep the pressure off a bit. Then got lucky towards the end to finally win it. The part that sucks is starting out next to a guy. If all 3 AI guys win a territory, then they get a 6 army bonus right away. If the guy next to you uses it, you're pretty much screwed. Challenge 2 is pretty daunting. Don't know if I want to get sucked into it tonight.

I've played that game a few times. Pretty decent game. It has a similar single player campaign with changing parameters. Should be able to find it pretty cheap right now and it's probably worth a pickup.

Didn't have much trouble with the first four levels, but that first challenge was rough.. Finally beat it, in 83 ####### turns.. :bag: That was brutal.

Challenge 1 is 75% luck of the draw. If you get dropped in the center of China with 3 teams around you, it's impossible. You'll never get passed the 4th or 5th round. If you get dropped on the perimeter somewhere or in Africa where you can pick up a couple of bonuses before the computer "finds" you, it's not that hard.

Challenge 2 is just ugly. Just when I think I have something going, I get hit with multiple guys with 100+ troops on the rampage.

I still cant get this level and breezed through the others. I can successfully build up OK, but every game one AI team destroys the other, then comes for me. I havent had a game yet with an AI eliminated from each side, its always one sided. I even try to help out the losing AI side but no dice...

I think it might be beatable.Don't use your abandon cards right away, the key I think is to trap the AI so that it wastes one of it's big stacks on an abandoned territory. I think you can use an abandon card and deploy to that region at the same time. You cannot use an abandon card and then reinforce from a neighboring region since that will just count as an attack. Bonuses are much more important on Challenge 2, once the AI destroys your bonuses and you start getting less than 20 a round (or even less than 30) you are done.

I've played through it quite a few times. 7 or 8 out of 10 times, I don't make it past turn 10. The other 2-3 times out of 10, it's not that hard. If you run into 3 other armies before you're pulling 12-15 bonuses, game's over. If you can grab/hold 2-3 bonuses and meet 2 opposing armies, it's pretty easy.

Challenge 1 is hugely dependent on where you start out and how many opponents are nearby.

I've beat it twice in about 10 tries, but only when I started in Africa with no on else on the continent. China/Europe is too hard to defend. Africa has 4 choke points you can defend. I always get screwed up in Australia/Asia Pacific because an army can attack you from Hawaii and I never notice them since they're on the other side of the screen. Still trying to win starting in the Americas.

It's pretty easy to take the whole African continent and it gives good army bonuses when you do. Both times that I won followed the same script.

Take all of Africa, buildup a small defense vs Brazil and Antarctica, did not expand there.

Expanded into Spain and Israel/Saudi Arabia. I only tried to expand when I could defend the border countries after I took them. Spain and the M.E. are good because you can start expanding and only have to defend two countries at a time on each front.

Keep an eye on the ai army buildup and defend accordingly. Brazil had 10 armies, so I put 15-20 in Nigeria. They will buildup quick and overrun you the next turn in a blink. Let them attack you, defense has a 60% bonus according to the rules.

Brazil and Nigeria had an arms race buildup to 112 armies to 152. In the meantime I was taking Europe/Middle East and pushing eastward towards Asia. Brazil finally attacked me and it was over for them. After losing their 112, I expanded into SA and it was over. South America to North America, Europe over Greenland, Middle East finishing up Asia down into Australia and up from Antarctica.

Expand like mad in one or two fronts, defend the rest. Be patient and let them attack you and then finish it.

Challenge 2 looks fun but the whole dual earth thing is kinda trippy.

I just beat Challenge 1. I was in Africa with one other player there as well. I took Africa, then S.A., then Antarctica, then Australia, then the Indies, then just kind of stalled out for a really long time. One of the AI teams had been eliminated, but the other was pretty evenly matched with me. I stayed even with them everywhere else and fought over North America for about 30 turns, I'd guess. Once I got that, it was easy. I can't believe how easy this one was compared to all previous attempts.

The biggest thing I think I've learned is that you need to defend, not attack. If he gets an army into your area, surround it with equal-weight territories every round. Eventually he peters out and he lost a lot more troops than you did along the way.

Havent tried a more defensive strategy so Ill give that a whirl. So are you not attacking often and not getting a piece of a card, and just taking your africa 19 bonus each time?

Just beat the Nazi challange in 31 turns. Key is to keep you ally fighting and producing units as you take France, the low countries, spain and portugal with the minimum number of troops possible with everything else going to your ally. I sent him one of my starting 50 batch and two airlifts. Also, a couple of my early resupplies.

ETA - no luck with Challenge 1 yet though.

Finally got this. It is amazing as I used the same strategy I did countless other times, but this time I just walked through everyone in 32 turns. Comes down to a lucky setup IMO.

WOOHOO completed level 3, seems you have to be ultra aggressive. I tried several times by building up my army to defend my territory, but all of a sudden the AI would come over with some silly number like 48 and walk right through my territory. I just kept pushing forward and it pretty easy.

I will be writing a walkthrough for this game shortly.

It's not even really the set up, it's whether the AI teams fight each other, and whether one of them doesn't overwhelm the other one quickly. That's really the only way to win. If you end up in between the 2 AI teams, it's pretty much over, they share forces and reinforcement cards and will overwhelm you no matter what you do.

yeah - thats what I meant by setup. Whether they bother you or not seems to be luck of the draw.

 Finished it on my 4th or 5th try. 28 turns. This is exactly how I did it.ETA: Just knocked out challenge 1. I was originally placed in NE Asia, and was somehow able to capture and secure all of Asia pretty easily. From there it was simple. 29 turns.

I wouldn't call it defensive in general - I'm always expanding, it's just that I'm only expanding on one front at a time, leaving stalemates at choke points for the rest of my territory. In the area where I'm expanding, I'll have a front where many territories are facing the enemy. Every one of those territories will have a few armies in it instead of stacking all my armies into one spot. If he breaks through, I surround his large army with small armies of my own so that no matter what direction he goes, he has to overcome my forces. I continue to do this until he runs out of forces in the big army, then I take back a bunch of 1-army territories he took along the way.

Anyone finish challenge 2? I can't make it to all the borders of my world before I'm invaded by 50+ armies of random colors. I did manage to abandon 20 armies just outside of my Argentina. That sufficiently closed off that access, which is the basis for my strategy so far. But I haven't been able to shut down more than 1, even if I make it to the border point before it's invaded. I also can't think of a place I can hole up and defend until I'm strong enough to mount an attack. Since it's 1 against 5, I can't imagine winning if I can't own my entire world before they break through.

Challenge 2 is bloody hard, haven't come very close to beating it, but it can be done.

A few suggestions.

1) After you lose, you can look at history to see how enemy progressed.

2) Based on above, it's clear that you can't control the whole north before your opponent arrives.

3) Most importantly, this favors the attacker, not the defender (as long as you have overwhelming force). i.e. turtling is a bad strategy. The dice rules are very different from risk. In risk, assuming you have at least 3 armies and the defender has at least 2, you will basically lose about 0.921 per roll and the defender loses 1.0792. So if you attack 51 on 51, you will probably win and lose 50 * .921 = 46 die, advancing 4. The point is, it's pretty close, and the ratios between attacker/defender don't matter. But in warlight, it's very different. The amount you lose is 0.7 * the amount of defenders, REGARDLESS of how many attackers you have, and the amount the defender loses is 0.6 * the amount of attackers. So for example, if you attack 51 on 51, you will probably lose 0.7 * 51 = 36 and will defeat .6 * 51 = 31, a net loss of 5. But if you attack say 70 on 51, you will still only lose 36, but now you will probably win 42, a net gain of 6. To maximize your advantage, you should always try to have at least (1/0.6) = 1.666x the amount the defender has, then you will generally conquer while only losing 70% of the defended armies.

4) The AI is deterministic in how / when it attacks, so if you can figure out the patterns you have a better shot.

The ones that have done it put their first abandon in Svalbard S. You can get to that by going south from your Africa starting place.Challenge 2 is hella hard. Some general tips I've discovered that apply to all levels:The AI values neutral territories much more than you do. What I mean by that is, if you are next to the AI, you are going to be focused on him. However, if there is a neutral adjacent to both of you, he will always attack that. Which leads me to my next point:Don't attack the AI right away. If he's adjacent to you, build up several stacks of 4 or 5 where you're adjacent, and then one big stack. Then WAIT. Transfer armies, attack neutrals somewhere else, etc. The AI will probably beef up to a big stack next to you, but then he will split it up and attack as many things as he can. If you've defended well, he'll probably lose most of them. As the last thing you do, take your big stack and attack his. He will probably have weakened himself so much you'll win. This is a consistent pattern with the AI, use it to your advantage. If you just build a big stack and attack the AI right off, he probably will have built a bigger stack and you'll lose. Just wait, it will get better.

Finally beat Challenge 1 last night on my 5th try in 39 moves. :lmao: for Challenege 2.

C2, turn 9, first contact with AI, 45 armies per turn
I think my high point for income on Challenge 2 was around 70 armies. I was able to fend off some of the AI teams for a little while, but they keep coming from every direction, always kill me eventually. At some point, to beat them, you have to go to their side of the world and disrupt them. I haven't managed to do it successfully yet.
