Gals or LAFC?So last week in NYC for the foreseeable future...off to sunny southern Cali. Very bittersweet, but the COVID stuff really freaked my wife out and she wants to be closer to her brother. See how long her big bank employer lets her WFH.

Are masks mandated on the subway? After so many deaths just 2 and 3 months ago, I would've thought so. Maybe the maskless person has antibodies. The sprinkler in the playground across the street has been busted all summer. I've reached out to our assembly person and 311 repeatedly...all nice and optimistic, but zero movement. Thanks for that. Then our local public pool was supposed to open on Friday with a bunch of other pools around the city. Nope. Only one remaining closed. Has the feeling of a #### the poorer, browner LES, EVil and Chinatown neighborhoods (similar to what they do with the schools), but damned skippy we'll make sure everything works in Tribeca.
As a result, we subwayed it out to the sunset park (bklyn) pool on saturday. That place is an absolute gem...had no idea. Then walked down to industry city for some lunch. Nice day.
We've been on the subway a number of times already...article today in the times and elsewhere talking about how they might be safer, relatively, than other indoor spots...as long as numbers are lower and masks are worn. Every time we've been on the train so far the numbers are low, but there's always at least one person completely without mask.
I have no problem with living out my remaining years in the peace and tranquility here in Norman Rockwell's America in Boise. Good livin'gotta say- while I liked the house and quiet in MD... I didn't realize how much I missed the multi-cucha here- different colored skin, different languages, different music, different everything. whitey mcwhite down there was overwhelming in a bad way for me.

Ok. Norman Rockwell? As someone who grew up in Boise I have to tap the breaks. You must not have experienced the rampant racism and militant gun nuts of the rest of the state. Love Idaho. But there are so many issues don’t get me started.I have no problem with living out my remaining years in the peace and tranquility here in Norman Rockwell's America in Boise. Good livin'
I can’t even imagine stepping on a subway without a mask at this point.Mandated but nobody enforcing
Gals look like they’re 10 minutes closer, but it’s at the point where the commute is longer than the actual match.Gals or LAFC?
I"ll hook you up with my buddy out there- Gals fan since the beginning. just sent some video he took of one of their "only one team in LA" supporter group tail-gate jaunts.Gals look like they’re 10 minutes closer, but it’s at the point where the commute is longer than the actual match.
there's always been at least one. but it's kinda similar to the streets/sidewalks... more than 90% of the people have them... a few more have them and aren't wearing them or are wearing them ineffectively. looking around today I was struck by how many people are wearing them, just walking around, let alone the 100% in stores.I can’t even imagine stepping on a subway without a mask at this point.
are you seeing a lot of people without them?

Nope. I guess I haven't been here long enough to see that. Boise itself seems to be somewhat progressive and accepting. I did see a few things back in February. During a 5k race, little kids were running over and high-fiving cops and during an event at the Capitol, someone started singing the National Anthem and everyone for blocks around stopped and faced the singing with hand on heart until it was done. Sorry but that's a place I want to live and seems very Norman Rockwell to me.Ok. Norman Rockwell? As someone who grew up in Boise I have to tap the breaks. Btw..walked almost 10 miles today on the Greenbelt. From downtown to that old horse race track and back. Almost 100 degrees out! Coming back for the balloons in September.Ok. Norman Rockwell? Interesting. My daughter and her boyfriend left NYC 3 months ago. Quarantined then have been staying with us. Both jobs WFH. They are flying back Tuesday. Re-upped their lease at a discount. Don’t feel NYC is safer than So Cal now. They know they won’t be coming back to NYC as they knew it. Will have strict quarantine for 14 days. Can’t leave. Door man picking up garbage etc.So last week in NYC for the foreseeable future...off to sunny southern Cali. Just got off the phone with my friend who moved from So Call to outside of Boise last Fall. Absolutely freakin loves it there. Wished he would have done it sooner They are kayaking, white water rafting, fishing or golfing every other dayNope. I guess I haven't been here long enough to see that. Thankfully New Yorkers get a pass but there is a big resentment of all the Cali people moving here. The virus has dampened the activity, especially the city life, but I'm looking forward to the water activities next year. Love it here! Glad we bought in December because we probably wouldn't be doing it any time soon if we didn't.Just got off the phone with my friend who moved from So Call to outside of Boise last Fall. Personally, I get it. People pine for the old days and hate change. I have plenty of friends that cling to the 70's and 80's NYC. Things change, accept it or step aside.I always crack up at the NIMBY resentment. They love it when their own homes appreciate in value though. Oregon, Washington, Idaho. Who else doesn’t want us? Get in line.
I'm here ten years and haven't seen more than a few like this. People are very friendly and willing to help each other out. Maybe in the rural areas outside the Treasure Valley?Ok. Norman Rockwell? I think this is more media hype than reality. And Sif, of course. LOL. They started to coming in huge waves in 2006 to Eagle from the Bay area.Thankfully New Yorkers get a pass but there is a big resentment of all the Cali people moving here. Me neither. The whole thing confuses the hell out of me. Ive seen TONS of maskless people (outdoors), zero social distancing, and the numbers are STAYING low? With the 20% positive antibody results and the new T-cell scientific study (saying that up to half people could have some type of immunity) I am wondering if he have gotten some type of herd immunity. So second day back in NYC since March, jeez, I don't really understand how it hasn't come back yet. There's some lesser activity and proper mask usage is 80-90%, but there's frankly a ton of people out and about (I'm UWS).
It's busy down here in the LES/EVil. Out and about seems ok to me, especially if most are wearing masks and not stopping and congregating...and the low numbers seem to be reflecting that. Stores and building interiors have all been 100% mask wearing from that I've seen.So second day back in NYC since March, jeez, I don't really understand how it hasn't come back yet. I think it's being outside and moving. If this behavior persists indoors and/or while statically congregating, I think that's when we get back into problems.Me neither. My son plays little league and while the kids are outdoors there is no social distancing going on. Not a single kid has gotten sick yet :crossesfingers: Kids are going over each others houses, I've known tons of people that had big blowout graduation parties, proms, birthday parties. This is in Staten Island. Numbers are still very low and holding steady.I think it's being outside and moving. All seems like behaviors that spread this. Hopefully SI somehow avoids it.My son plays little league and while the kids are outdoors there is no social distancing going on. Hospitalizations on the climb...
Most days they have 1 or 2 hospitalizations up from 0. Its impossible to go down from 0. Come on man.Hospitalizations on the climb...
I was trying to trap you here...I just looked at the stats and there is a recent spike- not holding steady. Most days they have 1 or 2 hospitalizations up from 0. Its impossible to go down from 0. Come on man.
I know the feeling. Enjoyed spending long stretches at the NJ shore but missed the lack of diversity. I think my wife is still in shock when our neighbor said the schools were diverse as they had a non-christian kid in their son's class.gotta say- while I liked the house and quiet in MD... My gazebo was ripped down :(just watched a tree snap in half across the street and fall into the street sidewalk.
stay safe, NYC friends!
and be aware in the days ahead about walking near and under trees... in case of limbs just hanging waiting to fall.
yikes- be careful. My gazebo was ripped down :(
Same here on the 5th floor in Hoboken. I was looking out the window and the low trees seemed like they were struggling in the wind, but the big tree that is as high as the 6th floor wasn't moving around that much. Even my windows are pretty dry, which never happens when it's raining and windy. Not much happening up here in midtown on the 12th floor. Barely a rain event. Weird.
the rain and wind has come in quick, heavy bands down here, starting around 11.Not much happening up here in midtown on the 12th floor. Barely a rain event. Weird.
My kid's camp at the Monroe Center (by the 9th st light rail) chose to do a 3pm early dismissal today which I was shocked they chose over closing for the day which obviously would've been much easier for them. I got here 20 mins early because I half expected to hit several flooded roads like always and possibly needing to double back and walk to pick her up instead (had to do that during one of the bad storms about a month ago).Same here on the 5th floor in Hoboken. Same here. Flooding is usually really bad around my apartment during rain storms, but there's not much here either. My kid's camp at the Monroe Center (by the 9th st light rail) chose to do a 3pm early dismissal today which I was shocked they chose over closing for the day which obviously would've been much easier for them. I was pleasantly surprised to not see anything beyond a big puddle, a miracle for this town.
Friend from Hollis sent me pics of several downed trees in the street. Lot of my Jersey friends are without power as well - one shared a message from their power company they expected service to be restored NLT 11pm August 11. Great job managing expectations JCP&L!No power for most of the day, finally back around 7pm. Most blocks have either large limbs or full trees down.
Nice first day back!
There's still a large section of my neighborhood without power and they're being told maybe Sunday. We're very fortunate that it was only about 5 hours for us.Friend from Hollis sent me pics of several downed trees in the street. Safe and sound in Turtle Bay.
Our elementary principal has been furious with Carranza and deblasio in his weekly zoom talks with parents... The two keep making public statements about schools that the principals are hearing for the first time in the news- zero coordination. And zero help or advice with how on earth they were supposed to make it all actually happen.Hearing they are running into administrative issues in addition to union stuff making headlines. You almost need twice as many teachers for dual schedule since teachers can’t teach both remote and in person at the same time.
