NFL.com Reports Henne (separated shoulder surgery) done for year. (1 Viewer)

http://www.nfl.com/n...gn=Twitter_news

The Dolphins' attempts to turn their season around could get even more difficult in the wake of an injury suffered by quarterback Chad Henne during Sunday's loss to the San Diego Chargers.

The team is currently concerned about a separation of Henne's non-throwing shoulder, and the Dolphins are awaiting word of a second opinion Tuesday that could dictate Henne's availability for the rest of the season, a Dolphins source said.

It is possible -- taking a very optimistic approach -- that Henne could still play against the New York Jets in 13 days, following the team's bye week. But while the team is not yet ruling anything out, the feelings coming from the organization about the situation are most definitely tense.Henne has made it clear he'd like to play through the pain of the injury, but word out of the team's facility is that it might not be as simple as that. The second opinion is being sought to confirm the team's original findings, which the source did not yet want to elaborate on.

Without Henne, the Dolphins will look toward backup Matt Moore to carry the load of the Dolphins' 0-4 record. Moore was decent as Henne's replacement against the Chargers (17 of 26 for 167 yards with no touchdowns and an interception), but Henne to this point had been one of the team's better players.

The Dolphins are also in the hunt for another quarterback -- and potentially two -- to be added to their roster in the wake of the current situation. Miami currently carries only Henne and Moore on the roster.

Even if Henne can return to action, they'll likely now need an insurance plan to backup Moore in the case of any further issues with Henne's shoulder shoulder.

NFL.com's Jeff Darlington reports the Dolphins are concerned that Chad Henne's separated left shoulder could be season-ending in nature.Darlington just left the Miami Herald for NFL.com. He's a trusted voice on Dolphins matters. While the team awaits a second opinion on Henne's shoulder, they are reportedly continuing efforts to "rekindle" failed discussions with free agent David Garrard. Thus far, the Fins are not offering Garrard any guaranteed money, which is obviously a stumbling block. Jake Delhomme looks like a potential fallback option. Oct 4 - 1:16 PMSource: NFL.com

Denver should be one the phone with Miami right now. Get something for Orton while you can. They should tell Miami if no trade, good luck with Moore and good luck Sparano keeping his job

(RotoWire) Moore, who took the starting reps during Tuesday's practice, now tops the Dolphins' QB depth chart now that Chad Henne is out for the season, NFL.com reports.

The bolded is the reason an 0-4 team shouldn't make that call.

Looks like they inked rosenfels

The Dolphins' climb from their place as one of four winless teams just became a whole lot more interesting: Quarterback Chad Henne will require surgery to repair a shoulder separation and will miss the rest of the season, multiple team sources said Thursday.

The Dolphins have agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Sage Rosenfels, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora. Rosenfels, a former Dolphins quarterback, was placed on injured reserve by the Giants in August with a blood illness.

Rosenfels has also played for the Redskins, Texans and Vikings. He has a 62.5 career completion percentage with 30 touchdowns and 29 interceptions in 10 NFL seasons.

Negotiations with several other quarterbackswere unsuccessful Tuesday and Wednesday, as the Dolphins look to land a veteran to compete with Matt Moore, who was the only other available quarterback on the roster.

The Dolphins are currently in their bye week, but they have practiced each of the last two days and will practice again today at 12:15 p.m.

They play their next game a week from Monday -- Oct. 17 -- against the Jets in MetLife Stadium.

It seems reasonable to anticipate Moore's experience in the current offense will earn him the start in that game, no matter who the team brings in at this point, even if it eventually turns out to be someone withDavid Garrard's experience.

During Moore's duties as Henne's replacement Sunday, he completed 17 of 26 passes for 167 yards and an interception. Moore also took the starting repetitions during Tuesday's practice, although he was the only quarterback on the team.

"He looked good," Sparano said of Moore's first practice Tuesday. "He did a good job out there. It's the most reps he's taken in a while. He did a good job and had good recall, good control of the offense. There's no install (Tuesday), just old playbook stuff."

Moore, to this point, had not been vying for the starting position, which clearly belonged to Henne throughout training camp and into the season.

Henne ends his season after completing 64 of 112 passes (57.1 percent) for 868 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions. He'd already been sacked 11 times through just four games.Henne has been among the team's brighter spots this year, looking more impressive with his decisions, leadership and throws than many anticipated. He suffered the injury during a botched handoff in the first quarter Sunday.

Adding an interesting dynamic to the situation, Henne is scheduled to become a free agent after this season, which will leave the Dolphins in an odd situation. Henne and the team will both need to decide at some point whether to continue their union after an improved but limited body of work this season.

For now, though, the Dolphins will simply be focused on something else: Getting this team turned around.

In 2 QB leagues, who is the guy to own here, Moore or Rosenfels?? I'm thinking Moore gets first chance, but Rosenfels is the better QB.

nothing to guarantee that Luck comes out this year. He has another year of eligibility after this year according to what I heard from Mort this morning... just saying....

IF you need a bye week replacement and are desperate, Moore is the starter right now. I don't think either have much upside this year though.

In 2009 Matt Moore played in seven games for the Panthers, completed 62 percent of his passes and threw eight touchdowns with only two interceptions.

The team also worked out Brodie Croyle and Trent Edwards on Tuesday, but no deal is expected with either quarterback, according to league sources. Miami explored options of signing Croyle after his workout Tuesday, but the sides couldn't come to an agreement. The situation was similar with Garrard and Delhomme.
LMAO. Couldn't come to an agreement? I can understand Garrard, Delhomme or even Trent Edwards not wanting to sign for peanuts, but Brodie Croyle has never won a game as a starter, and then in the last year was jettisoned in KC in favor of Tyler Palko then failed to beat out Richard Bartel for the 3rd string job in Arizona. The Dolphins show interest and he and/or his agent can't come to terms? Does he think he can get more money in the CFL?

Very funny.

Maybe they asked him to play for some subway coupons and gift cards to CVS. Probably wanted to hold out for a little better than that.

They don't want to come to an agreement. Ross is not a stupid man. He knows the quickest way to revitalize this franchise is getting Andrew Luck.

The Dolphins have no incentive to win, so they may as well ride Moore until he gets hurt. Besides, I don't see Rosenfels getting into game shape for at least 4-5 weeks.

I heard he wanted to play in the CFL but no CFL team wanted him. ;)

You might be giving Ross too much credit. He bought the team for $1.1 Billion and Miami is off the Super Bowl stop list until they fix or get a new stadium which won't happen anytime soon. Team is worth roughly $750M right now so he has taken a huge loss. No impact players to sell tickets, it's a terribly run franchise right now.
