NFL Competition Committee (1 Viewer)

Ever since the days when Don Shula was heading the committee, I always thought it was a bit odd and anti-competitive to have major active entities in the NFL -- GMs, coaches -- as part of this committee.

As objective as they are going to try to be, they are all going to have their own certain biases & agendas that they will bring to the table.

I was just thinking this as it's going to most clearly come to light with the likes of Bill Polian & Jeff Fisher weighing in on the fate of one of their chief AFC rivals.

And of course also famously pointed out with Polian pushing hard for the re-emphasis on illegal contact.

Is there a reason that this committee is not made up of ex-players, ex-coaches or other ex-NFL personnel?

Seems to me that would be more fair, no? :excited:

Obviously I'm bringing this up in reaction to the Patriots situation, but I seem to recall that when Shula was head of the committee, the Dolphins were consistently the least penalized team in the league.Let's not make this about Camera Gate, I was just bringing it up as side discussion, as it's something I've never understood.

Do you have a committee of FF players that aren't in your league that craft all of your new rules proposals for your league? Or is turning over that kind of responsibility for something that's important to you, something that would be hard to stomach?

:sadbanana:I have no idea which hand the coin is inYou are going to need alot more than Shula being on competition committee to connect it to the Dolphins being the least penalized team in the league.

No. Every team in my league has a say. It's not 3 owners in our league deciding rules for everyone else. If all 32 teams had a rep on the committee, it would make sense.I would have no problem if a committee in my FFL was composed of 3-4 guys who used to be in the league. I would have a problem with 3-4 active league members with their own personal agendas suggesting & setting rules.

Which is exactly how the NFL does it. All 32 teams vote on the rule and 24 of them have to pass it for it to go into effect. The Competition Committee does not unilaterally create rules. So where's the problem?
