NFL Draft Thread (1 Viewer)

1.17 Giants up.

Let's see, we need a water boy, a tee retriever,  a backup Fullback, 2 guys to fix the kicking net that Odell broke, and someone to help Daniel Jones get his new fake ID.

Sadly, because i'm a much bigger Sox than Patriots fan, the NY football Giants are stuck in my craw even more than the Yankees. The interruption of THE perfect season and backing it up with another inferior team a few years later, both largely on the shoulders of Manning hot streaks. Too much to bear. It hasn't been anywhere near enough to see Eli confirmed as nothing more than the old 1970s 50% QB i always knew he was. Not even when maybe the worst head coach ever, Ben McAdoo, got ONE thing right by interrupting an immense, career consecutive-games streak to sit Archie's boy, not to try the new kid, but for frikkin Geno, simply because he couldnt stand watching his field general thread bullets to middle linebackers anymore.

But this might do it. For the Jints, amid all the metrics, quotients & percentiles of the modern scouting process, to expend precious draft capital on the quarterback who LOOKS the Most Like Eli, was coached by Coach Of Eli, is most willing to be Mentored By Eli simply so the owners won't be Scowled At By Eli in their own luxury box five years from now might just do it. Because i live in VT, which is both a Boston & NY television market, i've been stuck watching Jet & Giant games, often over Games of the Week, these last years. Now, with Darnold/LBell/LeonardANDQuinnenWilliams the Jets might be worth watching, but it will be the Giants giving me Shakespearean transports of comeuppance for the next half-decade that will the true delight.

Drafts really aren't his thing.
I think you are joking but this is on the way to becoming very true, imo. In the past guys like Kiper and King had these relationships with their cronies let a few things slip but they aren't really all that good as draft analysts or scouts. They don't really know much about analytics. Without the "inside scoop"..... the network may as well slide in a blonde as eye candy on the set like all the other programs on the network. I'm not saying this to hate on the Kiper/King's of the world(well, King does seem like an insufferable, pompous, d-bag) it just feels like their contributions are very dated at this point.

Trey Wingo is awful.  He just topped off his dumb with "I got news for you the patriots are intent on continuing to win Super Bowls".   This after drafting Jarrett Stidham in the 4th round.    :lmao:

I was trying to cite something in talking about the draft but i couldnt find the source. Since we're Footballguys, i thought one of you might remember.

SI's Paul Zimmerman, Dr Z, was as responsible for football analytics with his Thinking Man's Guide as Bill James was to baseball. In the year or so before the stroke that vegetablized him for his last decade of life, Z mentioned that an amateur football fan had brought him a 1700-pg book in which he had charted every play of the previous NFL season, said he thought this was the future of fb and asked if Zimmerman could help get it seen. A stats freak since i was 12 (actually conducted the equivalent of a fantasy baseball draft with a coupla pals in our jr high cafeteria in 1968), i was excited about the prospect of every play being broken down for the fan and what stats it might yield, but Dr Z had the stroke & i didn't hear anymore. Within a year or two, though, websites started talking about targets and such, so i figured it was the outgrowth of this guy's work, but never found out if it was him or who it was, and, now that there's a number for everything in football, couldnt find out anything about him in a recent search. Anybody remember this?
