NFL - Hypocritical (1 Viewer)

NFL has pictures of Week 6 for sale on their website, at least 3 of them are photos of hits that defensive players were fined for! Linky

In light of yesterday's announcement that these types of hits will now be dealt with more severely and not only fines will be handed down, but also possibly suspensions, is the NFL hypocritical or not?

Being discussed on Mike & Mike right now. NFL looking into it.
This kills me. "Looking into it." Uh, this story actually broke yesterday. How long does it take to "look into" pictures that are up for sale? I think their actual comment to Mike and Mike was something like "if there is any merit to the story." Uh, all you have to do is click a link. Not that tough to confirm. They're just trying to buy time to figure out how to cover their butts on this one. And Greenberg is just disgusting on how he's carrying water for the NFL. Trying to justify this in any way is ridiculous. Especially with how far Mike Greenberg has gone in pushing this whole thing and how far he wants to go into turning the league into a flag football league.

Wasn't aware the story broke yesterday....sorry if this is a "honda" thread. This is the first I've heard about these photos being for sale and the first time I checked the NFL website.

Not sure what you mean about Greenie? Don't watch or listen to them regularly. As for today, his comment was that he could see a difference between a still photo of a vicious hit vs. a film clip of a vicious hit, which the NFL is also trying to limit public display of. I'm not saying I agree with Greenie, just stating what he was talking about.

I wasn't trying to call you out for not knowing that the story broke yesterday, I'm saying that it's ridiculous that the NFL is still "looking into the situation" today when the story broke yesterday. I don't see how it takes that long to verify whether or not a picture is available through the website. And I know Greenberg was trying to say that there was a difference, but Greenberg is a tool. How is a picture of the big hit not still glorifying the hit? He couldn't even explain how a still picture isn't glorifying it. His explanation of "it's just a moment in the game" doesn't even make any sense. Greenberg is clearly covering for the NFL IMO. He says he has no reason to do so, but ESPN's relationship with the NFL is a pretty good reason.

The NFPA association gets a portion of the profits from pictures sold, correct? Basically the NFL is saying "make a helmet to helmet hit on someone and we will sell your picture." So yes, it is hypocritical.

this just looks bad as a first pic

I'm sure the NFL will remove them shortly. I doubt the people in charge of selling things on the website have much contact with the people divvying out fines and suspensions. It's probably not the first thing on Goodell's mind. I trust that now that it has garnered some attention, that the pictures will be removed.

But if they are not removed shortly, then yes, they are hypocritical.

EDIT: Isn't this great free publicity for the NFL photo shop though! I didn't even know about it until this morning. I'm sure their traffic has increased exponentially this morning.

Looks like they've nor removed the image files, but not the html.

(Doesn't take a rocket surgeon, guys.)

lol. "Yeah we're looking into these far-fetched allegations". Hey NFL braintrust, it's right there on your website.

There is a 3rd party vendor in charge of collecting the photos and placing them for sale on the website. It's not like the league looks at each photo for approval before posting to the site.

In the future they do need to monitor the photos to make sure that no hits for which they have issued fines go up on the site. My understanding is they have said they will do this going forward.

That said, yes the NFL, like most of America and the rest of the world is a major hypocrisy.

Ummm, NFL, you forgot a couple...

Link 1

By the way, who the F would buy this picture and frame it???

Link 2
That second one is pretty messed up. Lets frame a picture of a guy who doesn't know where he is right now. That will look great on the wall of a Ravens or Steelers fan.

 He's been terribly one-sided on this topic.
