NFL viewership off 11% YOY (1 Viewer)

Lifelong Miami Dolphin's fan(friend of mine) has the team logo on his golf cart windshield with a black X over the logo.  Apparently 3 Miami players knelt during the anthem.  He won't watch them again.

to each their own I guess.

If your friend is basing life decisions on the actions of a few people that he'll never meet, especially athletes, then he probably shouldn't be operating a slotcar let alone a golf cart.

DFS has definitely played a role. Last year saw huge growth for DFS with all of the advertising which caused a lot of casual players to move from season long and jump into DFS. Then they all mostly lost money. Now it seems like DFS numbers are down and season long is down. I have no idea of the percentage of people that only watch NFL games due to fantasy football interests. But whatever that number is, it's down this year. Then you have all of the other issues related to the election coverage, poor on-field product, cord-cutting and everything else. But I really suspect that DFS has made a more significant impact than people may think, with unintended consequences.

pretty sure he based his decision on his respect for the flag & not the other stuff.

pretty sure there are more important people, in more important places, doing things in the name of the flag that are more disrespectful than a couple of athletes taking a knee for 2 minutes and 10 seconds during a song.

The people who aren't watching because of the anthem protests confuse me. Beat women but don't you dare take a knee during the anthem!

Why?  Rednecks don't like two things.  Brown people disrespecting the flag.  And women who don't know their place.

Goodell will do his research and tell us why we aren't watching as much.  I don't watch nearly as much football as I did in the past, but I'm holding off on my opinion until he tells me why.

Cal celebrates Marshawn Lynch by letting him drive an injury cart like back in his playing days.  All laughs and smiles.  This is the guy who hated speaking to the media in the NFL.

Goodell should take notes.  Richard Sherman is right he is making it the No Fun League.

Sounds like a real winner.

It's become Nascar.

Too much - Thursdays are still dumb.   Make it like 3 or 4 Thursdays around Thanksgiving.

Rules always "changing" or the rules stay the same but the calls are always changing

Too many commercials

Too much media spinning comments from players, trying to create drama - which in turn makes players not want to talk -

I don't care about "drama" so the media can stop

Lots of players whining

Lots of players getting fined for legitimate commments

It's obvious for all the talk the league does (about players, fans, safety etc) it's obvious they only care about the $$$$

The commercials so early in the game are really bad.  I mean, you are all psyched to watch a game, it starts, and then four plays into the game, there is a punt and then a commercial.  There's obviously a rule that a commercial has to happen after anyone gets a first down (like if the team that gets the ball first gets a 1st down on the first play and then fails to get a first down on the next three plays and then punts) or two 3 and outs, but it's a killjoy from the start.

I'll bet that none of you guys calling people rednecks because they are offended that players kneel during the anthem served for our country.  Not one of you.  Quit acting like you get it.
A) there are a lot of veterans that have supported Kap

B) the flag represents every citizen not just veterans

You're cute when you complain about blind assumptions with blind assumptions

I don't know. He is simply exercising his right to social protest in a similar way the players are.  Players use their notoriety and fame, this guy uses his vote with dollars by refusing to financially support the team.

I never called anybody a redneck, I just think this is stupid.  Especially when he specifically talked to people in the military and asked about the kneeling instead of sitting.   He has plenty of support from people in the military.  To stop watching this just because 3 of 52 people on a team you love knelt for 1 min during a song is just loony tunes.

No need to look further than the end of that half. Just atrocious. I flipped it to the game just to watch the kick as needed that fg for fantasy purposes and before you know it 10 minutes have gone by.

Literally forgot there was a game tonight because it had no fantasy implications for me.  I think there are many like me.

There hasn't been a single signature game this year. That game where everyone says "did you watch that game last night?"

Because so many of you think it's loony tunes is exactly the reason you are underestimating the impact this has had on NFL viewership.  It might not make sense to you, but there are plenty of people that think the flag is more important than watching a game and they're turning off the TV (or changing the channel to watch Trump :P ).

All of this discussion about the decrease in the quality of the product, an increase in cutting cable, fantasy football, etc., have all impacted viewership over the last few years, but there is a steep decline this year and it's obvious to me that Kap's actions are the main reason (he's currently the most hated football player).

On top of everything the refs totally screwed over the Bills by never calling a roughing the kicker foul. Instead they made the kicker leave the field for a play because he was hurt. :lmao:

Its not roughing the kicker if you hit the ball first.

Hmm I guess it wasn't in flight

A member of the receiving team may not run into or rough a kicker who kicks from behind his line unless contact is: (a) Incidental to and after he had touched ball in flight. (b) Caused by kicker’s own motions. (c) Occurs during a quick kick, or a kick made after a run behind the line, or after kicker recovers a loose ball on the ground. Ball is loose when kicker muffs snap or snap hits ground. (d) Defender is blocked into kicker.

It is if you follow through like that.

It's too bad they don't pick the prime time games the week before.  You can't guarantee a good game, but you can guarantee a relevant game.

There are not enough good teams or good QB play to have good TV matchups every week.` The Patriots should play every Thursday instead of Sundays.

I don`t buy into the National Anthem kneeling now as a reason because that already is cold product.  As predicted by 8 week nobody will care and they basically don`t.

I don't think younger people are into it as much as older people are.

People have different watching trends on television.  There's no reason to think that sports wouldn't eventually take that hit.

The political landscape is interesting this year.

The Walking Dead is on Sunday night.

Baseball playoffs was good.

Colin Kaepernick

Despite all the efforts to make the game more interesting....they've made it more boring.

I think it comes down to the teams and star power.

QB play has been pretty bad and some of the better QBs are on the outside looking in at the playoffs currently (Ben, Brees, Rodgers). Then you have teams that are good, but aren't that fun to watch like KC, Denver, and Seattle. Teams that are playing well, but people probably still skeptical over: Dallas and Oakland. And then the muddled middle of everyone else.

The NFL wanted parity and they certainly have it. 1/3rd of the teams are somewhere between 5-4 and 4-5.

Everyone -

Buttonhook said its because of a few kneelers, so we have this wrapped up. No need to keep coming up with other reasons.

I said this in the Shark Pool but last week's Steelers-Ravens game was atrocious.  What used to be one of the best rivalries in football became a comedy of errors:  23 accepted penalties, injury time outs, several huddles of officials, two mediocre teams playing badly, endless commercials.   It was unwatchable to all but the most diehard homers.

The NFL better start straightening this out because it is becoming a terrible product and it used to be awesome.

It's not football exclusive.  This is a matter of cord cutters, not people boycotting.  I don't know of a way to look up streaming numbers but I bet they're going up at a high rate.

:goodposting:

Parity sucks.  It basically means that a bunch of teams are both mediocre and thin, and these coin-flip games aren't really all that entertaining when you realize that neither team is particularly good.
