NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

I'm sure this is not PC to say but isn't the best thing for the girl To just take a settlement? I mean, if not he is going to get his lawyers to tear her apart in an effort for him to get off. Screw it, the damage has already been done and a lot of rape cases are tough to get a conviction. Avoid all the drama and take some cash.

I understand all the arguments the other way and I have a daughter so I can only imagine how I would react if it was my daughter but at the end of the day it might make more sense to take the cash instead of rolling the dice on seeing this POS brought to justice.
Doesn't work like that. She could settle with him all she wants and he might still have to face criminal charges. Since the burden of proof is a whole lot lower in civil court, she could take him for a hefty amount depending on the evidence.
Huh? Any settlement she makes would require her to give up her right to sue and to not testify in criminal court. So no civil case and no criminal case.

Strange. Seems they want to have flexibility for contracts. Now have only 45, max is 50. Grabner kinda meh but so are those "prospects".
Of course Leaf fans have him as a top 20 forward now that he is in Leaf organization - and all the prospects they traded went from Top-6/4 players to AHL prospects

Kane speaks, maybe he shouldnt?

This has been an incredibly difficult time for many people. I cannot apologize enough for the distraction caused to my family, teammates, this incredible organization, and of course our fans. While I have too much respect for legal process to comment on a legal matter, I am confident that once all the facts come to light, I will be absolved of having done nothing wrong.
:lmao: As dumb as a cinderblock. :lmao:

Kane also declined to say whether he will stop drinking and McDonough implied they will dump Kane if he's charged.

 I like Verhaege and don't think I would make this trade as Leafs GM but I don't know what they have in mind for those 5 roster spots and Finn/Beck/Gibson could all be bottom of roster NHL players but would be shocked if they ever made a real impact (but like I say, Verhaege has some upside).

Yeah big words from McDonagh when he knows he's paying her off. He shouldn't be in uniform until it's over.

Settled, cleared, investigation closed. Stuff like that.

Jagr is awesome

At this point in his life, 43-year-old Jaromir Jagr isn’t just marching to his own drummer, but basically his own drum corps. He’ll play as long as he wants. He play wherever he feels like it (i.e. places with a lack of personal income tax). He’s Jaromir Friggin’ Jagr, and you’re not.

So maybe you think you’re going to, say, blackmail Jagr with a scandalous selfie featuring him in bed with an 18-year-old model who happens to be dating a Czech junior player. Well, think again: You’re going to be about as successful as that Wayne Enterprises dweeb who tried to blackmail Bruce Wayne in “The Dark Knight.” In the words of Morgan Freeman: “Good luck.”

According to Blesk, a Czech tabloid, a model named Catherine from Moravia took a selfie in bed as Jagr slept next to her. The image had been making the rounds on Czech social media. Someone came across the photo, and had the bright idea to attempt to extort 50,000 crowns (or roughly $2,000 U.S.) from Jagr or else the photo would be released to the media.

So the photo was shopped to the media, and on Sept. 17 Nova.cz published the altered photo that the blackmailer had been using as “proof” that they had the image, presumably the one presented to Jagr.

Alas, there was one catch for this criminal mastermind:
Jagr. Doesn’t Care.

He literally told the blackmailer to do whatever he wanted with the photo. And so it hit the Czech media, and it was published in several European publications, and Jagr just keeps on Jagr'ing.

It should be said that while Jagr is reportedly single, Catherine is reportedly not. According to several reports, she’s the girlfriend of Czech junior player Domink Rudl, who was born in 1996, by which time Jagr had already won two Stanley Cups and a scoring title. He also reportedly calls Jagr one of his idols, just in case this entire thing wasn't awkward enough.

Zero ####s given. Love that guy.

Did every team playing tonight do the 3 vs 3 OT?

Caps won the game 2-0 against the Canes and then they went ahead and tried the 3 on 3 for about a minute before one team scored.Hopefully we get to see this more often because it was odd man rush city.

Eichel with a game tying assist and then an unassisted short handed GWG tonight.

Top 2 lines will be

Kane-O'Reilly-Ennis

Moulson-Eichel-Girgensons

Picked up O'Reilly for $12 over the weekend. Hate his PIMs but he should produce 60-65 points and if so, is a bargain for $12. Best guess on his +/-?

7 years, $42MM for Erik Johnson.

Seemed a little high to me, but they need him. $6MM year puts him on the same level as Mike Green and Johnny Boychuk,

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today they have acquired defensemen Dennis Robertson and Jake Massie and a fifth-round selection in the 2017 National Hockey League Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forwards Kris Versteeg and Joakim Nordstrom and a third-round selection in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Really like this move, we need any talent we can get. It will not make a huge difference but every little bit helps a crappy team. I think he will be on the first line of Staal - Staal - Versteeg

Why would they announce a settlement? If I understand it correctly any civil settlement/agreement has zero bearing on the criminal case, the DA can still pursue the case even if they settle for a bazillion dollars.

As a biased Blackhawks fan I think the accusers are concerned that the DNA test didn't really support their position. In fact here's a link that indicates it might look really bad for the accuser.

I don't know what's going on and doubt the public will ever know for sure. But with the lack of an arrest, the on then off grand jury, and DNA results that don't lend credence to the accuser's statement, it sure seems like the prosecutor doesn't have overwhelming evidence.

IMO the accuser's lawyers sense public opinion is starting to doubt the accuser and will try to quell that.

the DA is not going to pursue a case where the victim is unwilling to testify.

3 on 3 overtime is going to be awesome this yera
It was stupid last night at NYR-PHL.

Regualation ends with Flyers up adn also on a PP.

So they go to teh unnecessary OT to work the kinks out.

Flyers PP is wiped out so each team starts 3v3. Except about 2:15 into the period, Flyers get called for a trip. Rangers get a 4v3 PP, Flyers kill it and go 4v4 and there were no stoppages until the period ended.

tl, dr: They played an unnecessary OT to practice 3v3 but there were no goals and only 2 minutes of it was actually 3v3.

One thing I did notice about 3v3 OT. If the NHL wanted to increase 3v3 scoring even more, don't change ends after regulation. Looked like the long change in OT kept tired skaters for both teams outt here.

I like the 3 on 3 OT for this year and this added little bonus.

If you pull your goalie for an extra attacker in overtime, and the other team scores into your empty net, you'll forfeit the one point you gained by forcing overtime.

This has always been the case correct?

Lightning made their return to the ice Drouin had a sick goal...if he develops like advertised and takes the next step, a scary offensive team just became truly frightening.

Sure but I'm glad they are keeping it around in case teams try it and fail.

Not at all.Just wasn't sure if everyone knew this was the case.I don't even remember seeing it play out in seasons past but I'm sure it had to have happened late in a season at some point.
