NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

8 years for a 31yo defenseman (when the deal starts). Crazy.

Seabrook locked up until 2024. Toews, Kane, and Keith locked up until 2023. 4 of them combined will cost $33.35MM against the cap each year.

Pierre LeBrun Verified account ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 19m19 minutes ago

Eight years, $55 million for Brent Seabrook. That's an average of $6.875 million per season. A must sign for the Hawks. Good job there.
Mark Lazerus Verified account ‏@MarkLazerus 56m56 minutes ago

Next year's cap hits: Toews: 10.5M Kane: 10.5 Seabrook: 6.85 Crawford: 6.0 Keith: 5.5 Hossa: 5.275 Anisimov: 4.55 Hjalmarsson: 4.1
Kane might not be there.

6.8M for Seabrook is a very good deal IMO.

Kane's not going anywhere unless he's charged and convicted. He has a 100% NTC and if he accepts a trade he loses it. The only way he's gone is if he's cut.

My point was that his legal struggles aren't over yet.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Hawks convince Kane to waive his NTC if he doesn't get convicted. From what I hear, Rocky is done with Kane.

Uncofirmed, totally unsubstantiated details starting to trickle in from some of my local sources. From what I'm hearing, the rape claim is extremely, extremely flimsy. The details I'm hearing on what precipitated the whole incident are plausible. They don't make Kane look good from a PR standpoint, but they don't seem to indicate anything illegal.

Obviously all unsubstantiated rumor mill stuff, from "people who know people" type of thing. Buffalo's a pretty small town when it comes to rumors spreading.

Aside from her usual homerism, what was up with Linda Cohn's tweet about Flyers are still the Flyers?

Odd, considering that the Couturier left with an injury form a slash and Voracek was tripped in OT.

In Dobber's daily ramblings:

Both Zach Bogosian and Josh Gorges are week-to-week according to Dan Bylsma. This is a big hit to anyone projecting the Sabres for a big leap forward. It also indirectly hurts the fantasy potential for much of the forwards on the roster. You can’t play offense if you can’t get the puck out, right?
Gorges wasn't very good last year, so not sure he's a huge loss until he turns things around. Weber can play a similar style and take on some extra minutes.

They don't have a replacement for Bogosian, but they have pretty good depth to get by. Ristolainen, Pysyk, Franson, Weber, and Colaicavo are all NHL quality plus they have some prospects/AHL guys who can get an early look in McCabe, Donovan, Ruhwedel, and Sanguinetti. Also, everybody has been raving about 18yo 2nd round pick Brendan Guhle in camp and he might actually stick for a bit.

I've completely flipped sides on Kane... As a human being I have no idea what to make of the guy - I've read some unpleasant stuff, but whatever, who knows.

The rape charge is starting to look more like a money grab IMO.

Ghule being examined for concussion after this massive hit by Dion.

Avs get glencross...thoughts?
The fact that he couldn't make the Leafs doesn't bode well.
he's only on a PTO at this point, but would be a good bottom 6 signing for a team that lacks depth IMO. unless his game has fallen off at this point and that may be the case since the Leafs roster was wide open to make. and he did struggle with Washington after the trade.
My guess is that Roy and Sakic think he can contribute after being reunited with Tanguay and Iginla so I don't know if he would be "bottom 6" if he 's on that line. I'm not sure how these two always think they can resurrect a veterans career. I'd prefer to use a young prospect to see what they can do - but Iginla was very good last season and Tanguay was streaking until getting injured - so maybe this addition will work. What is interesting is that the league is placing higher values on the young guns and many respectable veterans can be had cheap - maybe this model has some merit.

line doesn't matter. what I'm saying is I would expect his role, if he finds one, would be as a 10-13 min guy with very limited special teams usage. I think they have plenty of room to give guys like Grigorenko and Hishon a regular spot even with the addition. Avs are pretty thin at forward and you know Tanguay will miss time.

Hishon released. If I'm a college coach talking to a smaller guy I show the head hunt put on Hishon às reason #1 to go college vs OHL

that's too bad

Looks like the Avs are making moves to keep Rantanen
Since he has no home in Juniors they may as well let him stay and get NHL minutes. Like you said Avs depth is sort of weak especially at San Antonio and I don't think playing there gets him any help. He's a big big kid so I'm not worried. And Roy seems to do OK with kids. It will be interesting to see final line combos Roy starts out with. He played around early last year and they never found the right combos early on and it put them in too big of a hole.

It appears Griffin Reinhart is NHL ready. EDM hoping to find taker for Nikitin or Ference. Tall order to trade either player, for sure.

Mark Spector ‏@SportsnetSpec 5m5 minutes ago

CHI is trying to move Bryan Bickell, with Seabrook deal kicking in next year, + Shaw, Kruger going RFA. Talked w/EDM 4 Nikitin, but no deal
Bickell is tough to move. I think they will have to retain some salary.

30 Thoughts: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-why-the-sudden-delay-in-expansion-talk/

But, as someone who wants Quebec back in the league, I want that team to be successful. On June 1, 2011, the Winnipeg Jets bought the Atlanta Thrashers for $170M. That day, the Canadian dollar was slightly more valuable than the American version, at $1.029. Now, it’s at $0.752.

Remember all of the hand-wringing about going back to Winnipeg? (Was there enough corporate support, etc. etc.?) Well, Quebec City is looking at an expansion fee of almost $670M (CAD) — almost four times what the Manitoba capital had to pay.
$670MM for an expansion team? yikes.

Blackhawks sent Dano down. Most expected him to play a significant role right away.

Marko Dano the surprise cut by #Blackhawks. Did not see that coming.

Mark Lazerus ‏@MarkLazerus 4m4 minutes ago

A week ago, Marko Dano was lighting it up on the #Blackhawks top line. Today, he was cut from camp. Wow.

Dan Rosen ‏@drosennhl 4m4 minutes ago

The Blackhawks just announced that Marko Dano is among their training camp cuts. He's going to Rockford. That's shocking.

Mark Spector ‏@SportsnetSpec 4m4 minutes ago

Wow, Marko Dano among 8 Chicago cuts to AHL. Heard he was struggling to keep up on a line with Toews and Hossa. This was unexpected.

why is this a big deal? he could be back up within the month depending on injuries and performance. he'll certainly be up for a significant amount of games overall this season regardless and will get chances on scoring lines. this happens all the time when you are on entry level contracts and can be sent down.

yeah, I don't think it's a huge deal. just a surprise as many expected him to take Saads place right away. I'm sure he'll be back soon.
