NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (2 Viewers)

What happened in the kane case for those of us not watching/reading other sites
the evidence bag was ripped open and left anonymously at the front door of the victim's mother.

pretty clear evidence of evidence tampering.

I like the 3 on 3 OT for this year and this added little bonus.

If you pull your goalie for an extra attacker in overtime, and the other team scores into your empty net, you'll forfeit the one point you gained by forcing overtime.

This has always been the case correct?
Sure but I'm glad they are keeping it around in case teams try it and fail.
BACKTRACK BACKTRACK BACKTRACK
Not at all.Just wasn't sure if everyone knew this was the case.I don't even remember seeing it play out in seasons past but I'm sure it had to have happened late in a season at some point.
Your boys have their tee times yet? FORE! :P

Seems like the prosecution's case would be f'd without that. It turns into a he said/she said.

Who/why would someone put that on the victim's mother's porch? Really weird.

Hamburg Police released a statement:

https://twitter.com/HamburgNYPolice/status/646756725584986112

In regard to the information conveyed today by Mr. Thomas Eoannou, the Hamburg Police Department will cooperate with any authorized investigation regarding the handling of evidence and the procedure of such. That said, The Hamburg Police Department has documentation that unequivocally demonstrates that it's handling of the evidence and the integrity of it's chain of custody of evidence in this case is unassailable. As is policy with active investigations, there will be no further comment regarding this situation.

Or not. Evidence bags are sealed. If the police access the evidence in a sealed bag they put the evidence into a new bag. Leaving a torn bag that used to hold the evidence.

Ok, but the whole thing is still weird, right?

Yes, whether or not it was evidence tampering someone wanted to cause trouble.

you guys see the latest on Kane story?

attorney no longer representing the victim. sounds like the victim's family lied to him about how they got the evidence bag.

He's only referring to the evidence bag and how it had come into their possession. He said he still believes the girl, for whatever that's worth.
Eoannou doesn't believe his now-former client's mother about the evidence bag. He did say earlier he believes her case
he said the victim had nothing to do with this, so I assume the mother lied about how she got the bag.

but even still, it sounds like the evidence is intact so the case can still proceed.

not helping their case in the court of public opinion though.

DA just had a press conference. Apparently, he said that it's not guaranteed they will proceed with the Grand Jury--it's a case of "if" and not "when".

The mother fabricated the fake bag. Don't know if the accuser had knowledge but apparently, that's what Sedita (the DA) is trying to determine before deciding whether to proceed with the Grand Jury.

Accuser's friend is apparently reluctant to testify. Some say it's because her story doesn't match the accusers and others say it's because she was in the bar as a 19yo. Apparently the friend said just now that she will testify and cooperate with law enforcement.

Blackhawks waived Jeremy Morin and Corey Tropp, two of the players they acquired in the Saad trade.

Seems like one or both should probably be claimed by some team out there. Both can help out a weaker team.

Why wouldn't the Hawks assign those guys to the Ice Dogs?

they will if they clear waivers, but every other NHL team has a chance to claim them first.

8 years for a 31yo defenseman (when the deal starts). Crazy.

Seabrook locked up until 2024. Toews, Kane, and Keith locked up until 2023. 4 of them combined will cost $33.35MM against the cap each year.

Eight years, $55 million for Brent Seabrook. That's an average of $6.875 million per season. A must sign for the Hawks. Good job there.

Next year's cap hits: Toews: 10.5M Kane: 10.5 Seabrook: 6.85 Crawford: 6.0 Keith: 5.5 Hossa: 5.275 Anisimov: 4.55 Hjalmarsson: 4.1
