NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Mike Green gets 3 years, $18MM from Detroit. Surprised so short.

@ByKevinAllen: The Red Wings didn't believe they would get Mike Green because they wouldn't give a long-term deal. He agreed to a three-year deal.
This is why I think it's hilarious people think Dougie isn't worth what he got right now. And to have him locked up long term at 22...steal.

Is there a Fenwick or Corsi-like stat that measures the uppity factor of Green? Cause I don't think we can compare until then.

@wyshynski: The Penguins get Phil Kessel at $6.75 million through 2022 and don't give up Pouliot or Maata. How the hell isn't that a win?
I have to agree, when I saw news that kessel traded to pens I said oh no goodbye pouliot or Matta. I would not have been happy but after seeing what we gave up, I love it.
still weak on D, no?
Defense wasn't as weak as most thought last year. Injuries really hurt them. That said, the defense still needs a little work.
Exactly defense was pretty strong most of the year til injuries kicked in. They need some depth however but to keep pouliot & matta can we say sigh of relief.

lol

So does Hextall have Holmgren and Snider under house arrest so they can't make any phone calls or are the just heavily sedated?

I thought Green had his second best season as a Cap last year and if he can stay healthy he will do just fine with the Wings.Great on the PP and while he isn't the greatest in his own end he's not as bad as some make him out to be.

If moving Lucic/Hamilton doesn't give them enough space, they could always move Bergeron/Chara to get this done

Dobber added,

Craig Custance @CraigCustanceDeal with Bruins isn't done yet but fair to say they're emerging as the favorite to land Matt Beleskey.

@ShawnHutcheon: #FlaPanthers have also acquired Marc Savard's contract from #NHLBruins.

@Real_ESPNLeBrun: Savard has two years left on his deal at a $4-million plus cap hit but only gets $575,000 in salary in those last two yaers

@RealKyper: Sounding like Beleskey left more money on table to become part of #Bruins. 5 yrs could come just under Frolik 21.5m #Flames deal

Beleskey will get over $5 mill per with the market the way it is now.
5 years, less than $20MM. Crazy. Another win for Sweeney.@DarrenDreger: Beleskey to Boston for 5 yrs at a shade under $4 mil per.

That's insane. He's never done enough in the league to warrant that much.

He has 57 goals in 329 games in parts of 7 seasons. That's 14 goals per year if he were to ever stay healthy for an entire year, which he hasn't been able to do

@TradeCentreNHL: #Bruins acquire F Jimmy Hayes from #Florida for Reilly Smith
Interesting that the B's added a decent amount of SPEED (!) in the draft, but when it comes to adding NHL-ready talent, they continue to try to get bigger and stronger on the wings ... in the face of the current NHL trend. Beleskey and Hayes (and Rinaldo) accomplishes that.

last 5yrs 5v5 G/60, Pts/60 Beleskey: 0.80, 1.64, $3.8M Simmonds: 0.77, 1.66, $3.975M Kulemin: 0.73, 1.61, $4.2M Frolik: 0.54, 1.56, $4.3M

With that I am done on Beleskey. It was a good signing by Boston in line with his peer group of 2nd/3rd line wingers.

David Johnson ‏@hockeyanalysis 38m38 minutes ago

@GarretHohl I don't think Beleskey is out of place in a second line role. Can probably play anywhere from L1 to L3 depending on team makeup.

Dan Rosen ‏@drosennhl 31m31 minutes ago

Is Beleskey a legit top-6 F or is he better suited for a 3rd line role? His contract suggests if he toggles back and forth it'd be OK.

David Johnson ‏@hockeyanalysis 42m42 minutes ago

Lets take out last season and compare the previous 2yrs at 5v5. Beleskey: 0.87 G/60, 1.74 Pts/60 Gaborik: 0.87. 1.79 Ovechkin: 1.10, 1.81

David Johnson ‏@hockeyanalysis 45m45 minutes ago

@ethanwinters @draglikepull Beleskey's numbers have been steadily rising last 4yrs. G/60 0.35->0.79->0.93->1.37.

Beleskey at $3.8m. Can't be many teams who wouldn't be happy to have him for that.

there's more out there like this. I think most people figured Beleskey would get way more money. this is a reasonable deal for a player that many considered to be the top FA forward available this year.

Beleskey sucks, but at least they didn't way overpay like was expected.
He scored 13 goals over two streaks covering 20 games early in the season. He was a healthy scratch a few times late in the season because he wasn't producing.

He had one other year over 10 goals with 11. He was 8.1% shooting percentage first six years, He was 15.1% this year. He caught lightning in a bottle twice during the season and once in the playoffs. He's not worth more than 2.8.

He'll be a buy out in two years.

@TradeCentreNHL: #Bruins acquire F Jimmy Hayes from #Florida for Reilly Smith
:lmao: now we get to hear how Reilly Smith wasn't a fit either
Another Sweeney surprise but this is a good one. If by not being a good fit you mean overpaid & sucks then you are right.Smith's contract extension by Cia was horrible
Overpaid and sucks? He was the lynchpin in the Seguin deal. And then signed to a deal that helped force Hamilton out. Oh how the tune changes.

I wish the search function worked so I could find all the "what about Reilly Smith?" posts

What did Hamilton sign for and the Pens just got a pure goal scorer. It's going to be sick watching what Phil does with a real center.

He wasn't the "lynchpin" in the Seguin deal. It was Loui Eriksson + pieces(Morrow ,Smith & Fraser)

Sweeney press conference: "I'm going to keep making moves until I find one that Brasky actually doesn't think is stupid."

I might have heard him wrong, though.
