NHL Off-Season thread:Down goes Kane! (1 Viewer)

Matt Irwin is a nice, cheap bottom-pair type of signing for the Bruins. But the B's seem to have a logjam there and really could use another top-four type, but I don't see how they can get a Franson or Oduya without moving out someone like Seidenberg.

Also very left-hand shot heavy, pretty much everyone except for McQuaid.

ICYMI on Periscope: #Stars acquire Patrick Sharp and Steven Johns from @NHLBlackhawks in exchange for Ryan Garbutt and Trevor Daley
:coffee:
Wow

Don't know if the Hawks can re-sign Oduya with Daley's contract.

Trevor Daley Contract Information:

Signed a six-year, $19.8 million contract extension with the Stars in December 2010
Unless Stan uses these pieces for other moves it's a bad trade by Stan. 800k in cap savings and you lose arguably the Hawks best D prospect in Rockford. Not liking this at all right now.

Dallas took all of Sharp's salary because they included Johns.

I don't think Stan had many options.

Trade Sharp for ####### nothing. Hawks need the cap, that's it. And Stan couldn't do it. I'm sure Sharp could have gotten a pick/prospect somewhere he would have gone. Now unless Stan loses more cap no way Oduya stays.

Daley has 2 years left with a cap hit of $3.3MM. He'll only be owed $2.7MM next year so could easily be moved if they need to free up more space for Seabrook in 2016.

this is an interesting deal for Dallas.

Goligoski and Demers are UFAs next year and they just dealt Daley so they have Klingberg and not much else on the blueline. They probably insisted on getting Johns back if Daley was going the other way.

Not sure if Sharp fits on the top line or not, but even if he's on Spezza's line he should probably be in for a bounceback year.

the johns loss is big :(
I wouldn't say big, it's potential at this point. Losing a prospect like that is tough but not as huge as losing Oduya, Kruger or Seabrook. If they wind up not being able to sign Oduya and Kruger it's a terrible trade. Just trade Sharp for a prospect or a pick FFS, no need to do anything but get cap space.

so they went from asking the farm to just giving Sharp away. gave up an okay prospect too. brilliant.

wtf is Dallas doing trading for more scoring though? I can't imagine they enter the season without trading for another D man.

Yeah the Hawks move is pretty  unless it's the first in a series of moves to shed more Cap, but with losing Johns they need to find another D.

Garbutt is a great energy guy guy and I bet some GM would love to get him for a 2nd rounder!!!

Stan isn't going to move a guy he traded for that has 50% salary retained by the original team. Daley is the likely candidate if either move IMO.

do they want Kevin Klein. Love the guy but they need to sign Step.

Hanifin signed.

The news has both Hanifin and Hanafin, guess it is Hanifin. We are top notch in Raleigh with our reporting.

NHL Network is showing an Ottawa @ Buffalo game right now as a "Vintage Game"... can I get a heads up as to what makes this a vintage game? The program guide has no info.

Great job, Ryan. Putz. Not that hard to avoid a frigging building is it?

Johnny Oduya already turned down a 3 yr, $15 million offer form #Sabres several days ago. No doubt Buffalo in position to offer most money
I don't see how the Blackhawks - even with the assumption they dump Bickell's $4M - can sign Oduya and Kruger.
If they traded Sharp for A pick or A prospect they could have. He was willing to sign for less in Chicago and was waiting for them to clear space. Sounds like Dallas is making a big offer as well. Daley =/= Oduya

Pretty nice move for Dallas if they shipped out Daley for Sharp/Johns and then sign Oduya as well.

Not sure why Bowman made that move really unless he knew they couldn't fit Oduya in given what other teams are offering him.

Sounded like they had deals ready to sign once Bowman cleared space. I don't understand why he made that move. Daley sucks and isn't a good fit for the Hawks D IMO.

Pretty lame if Oduya plays the loyal soldier, patiently waiting for Chicago and then they turn around and bring in Daley as his replacement.

Well that's really what has happened according to rumors. I just don't understand why Bowman would want anything other than cap space for Sharp.
