Nice auction move! (1 Viewer)

In an auction league where most of the managers know each other, the third player nominated was Stephen Gostkowski. This got an immediate bid of $20 and then a raise up to $22. The nominating manager just thought it would be funny to nominate his kicker first and Gostkowski is the #1 kicker by Yahoo! rankings. Added bonus that TWO managers thought it was Gronkowski.

$200 cap? Ouch. Pretty funny though. I can see that happening in my auction league.

Wow...awesome league bro.

If its presented as "I nominate Stephen Gostkowski, kicker, New England Patriots" and the people bidding only heard "Gostkowski...Patriots" and bid $20, that's their fault and the bids should absolutely stand. Nominator did nothing wrong.

It's a league of college/grad school friends and coworkers. Nothing too serious. Adult beverages were involved. People at the time thought it was pretty funny. It was a standard Yahoo auction so the name, picture and position of the player were clearly shown. I've never commished a Yahoo auction so I don't even know if it's possible to undo a bid.

The guy who nominated Gost. did nothing wrong. I don't know his motivations, but nominating a kicker at the start is totally acceptable. The fault lies with the guys who bid 20 and 22. Know who you're bidding on.

**** move.
 Who's fault is it the owners didn't know who they were bidding on?
I agree. **** move, plus a couple boneheaded owners.
So did you bid the $20 or $22?
You dont get it. It's a league where everyone knows each other. I play in 3 leagues with buddies and that #### wouldn't happen.
I get it. Know who you're bidding on. I'll nominate a kicker if I want. If you want to bid, know who you're bidding on. No fault of the nominator if you're bidding on the wrong guy. Do you really think the guy who nominated Gostkowski was wrong?

:goodposting: If I'm the one who nominated him, the next words out of mouth are "Gostkowski for 22 going once...Gostkowski for 22 going twice..."

It's possible to simultaneously think that the guys bidding on him were boneheads and also think that the guy who nominated a kicker early is a clown. That's pretty much my stance.

We'll agree to disagree. And I see kickers nominated in the first round quite a bit. To each his own.

I nominate kickers all the time in the first round to get them out of the way (or get people to bid more than $1 for a kicker).
Same here. Either I got a top kicker for $1 or else I just made someone spend more than $1 on a kicker. It's win-win.
How is that different from later?PsThat story is lol
