Nice youtube highlights of Gayle Sayers and Jim Brown (1 Viewer)

Brown had an unreal combo of power and speed. Not sure I've seen a player accelerate away from everyone faster than Sayers. Nice find rfw.

Never realized Sayers was that sick.

But what was up with Nirvana? "My Way" seems like it would be better suited.

It's unfortunate that these guys didn't play in the modern video age because I think a lot of modern, younger football fans would have a huge amount of respect for them that they don't (but should) have.

Brown in particular doesn't get enough respect nowadays. He was the Bo Jackson of his day - truly head and shoulders above the other athletes on the field with him - only he managed to play for 10 years (and probably could have played another three to five years at a high if not elite level; he like Barry retired at the peak of his talent). If you want to know what you missed with the rest of Bo Jackson's career, you just have to look at Brown.

Sayers reminds me most of guys like Dickerson and Allen with his upright, smooth, long-striding style that looks so easy but has him outdistancing guys, and like Payton and even Barry with his ridiculous cuts. Amazing to watch.

 I could not agree more. If some of the younger generation football fans really knew about the players they were not fortunate enough to watch, they would be much better off. While I have an enormous amount of respect for Bo Jackson. Sayers is the one player I wish, that we call could have seen more of.While I believe it's almost impossible to say without a doubt who the greatest Rb of all time was, I really wish we had more video of some of the all time greats from years past.

Here is my favorite Youtube running back

Notice he gets the ball at the 25 between the 4-5 second mark and crosses the goal line at the 13 second mark. And he doesn't break a sweat.

Sayers was just sick. :kicksrock:
Absolutely. As my avatar and screen name suggest, I've always been a big fan of Sayers. That run against the Colts that is showed in the video always blows my mind with his ability to accelerate from a dead stop. Too bad he played in the days before knee surgery became so advanced. And even though I'm a Bears fan and absolutely deify Sayers and Payton, I think Brown is the greatest running back ever. Such power, balance and speed. Truly amazing. And IIRC he was also a fantastic lacrosse player - how scary would that have been for his opponents?@rabidfireweasel - Thanks for the video link.

:blackdot: The power that Brown had was the difference between him and Sayers IMHO giving the advantage to Brown. Sayers could break arm tackles and even some shoulder tackles, but he couldn't outright blow people up like Brown could. Again, I think the modern equivalent to Brown was Bo Jackson.

Brown I'm convinced could be time-travelled forward fifty years and still be an excellent RB, certainly not as clearly dominant of an athlete as he was when compared to his contemporaries circa 1960, but still a damn fine RB in today's game all the same. There are very few guys from that era I'd be willing to say that about.
