For those of you not familiar with Ninja Warrior, here is ninja warrior 101

American Ninja Warrior starts this Sunday night.....no American has ever completed the course.

My question to the FFA is, could an American from one of the 4 major professional sports be able to complete the ninja warrior course?

If yes, who?

Levi Meeuwenberg will finish it one day, if he keeps trying.

I think if an American from the big 4 were to complete it, it would probably be someone built like an NFL DB. guys that are too heavy or too lanky have problems. it's all about being quick and strong, but not having a lot of mass.

I'm thinking some of the smaller baseball players could have a shot.....how about someone like Derrick Rose?

If you gave them time to train full time, sure. But just taking them off the field and having them do it with only a few practice runs to get familiar, they wouldn't have a chance. The one board section in stage 2 or 3 requires the finger strength and skills of a mountain climber. Getting the proper technique to make it up that rope climb at the end in time would probably take some practice, etc.

ideally the guy has to be about 5'7-5'8", somewhere in the 145-155 range. bigger than that and body mass works against you.

The Broncos WR who went last night showed that you need the training to figure out the correct way to do things. He almost got stuck trying to flip over the cargo net, and didn't have the right technique for the warped wall. Even though he was taller than the other guys he did not have the experience on it.

Anyone watching this year? Kamerion Wimbley had a great showing.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/Everybody tends to watch reality television the same way: On the couch, making fun of the contestants while lecturing the wife and dog about how we would do it soooooooooo much better. Titans defensive end Kamerion Wimbley, a huge fan of reality TV shows, admitted he watches this way.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/But there's one big difference between him and the rest of us (besides the obvious): He went out and proved he could do it.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/Wimbley advanced to the next round of "

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/Not bad for a guy who went out on a lark.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/"I had an opportunity, and I jumped at it," Wimbley said. "I always criticize these guys, asking, 'Why didn't he do it this way?' so I wanted to experience it."

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/For those of you who are unaware of ANW (which plays Sunday nights on the G4 Network and Mondays on NBC which means this is kind of a spoiler alert), you are missing out on something pretty cool. Basically, it's a rather

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/A course Wimbley made it look easy, especially when you consider he had essentially no previous obstacle-course training (unless you consider watching YouTube videos and picking the brains of other contestants). In addition, the majority of the contestants are shorter, with extensive backgrounds in gymnastics, martial arts and parkour. So being a man of Wimbley's size (6-foot-4 and 255 pounds) was actually a bit of a disadvantage.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/"That was the most surprising thing, was to see the other contestants," Wimbley said. "I was carrying more weight than the other guys, but my size had its advantages and disadvantages."

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/And the hardest part of of the course?

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/"The cargo net. Carrying the extra weight, it was tough," Wimbley added.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/Not to worry, Titans fans; football will always supersede being a ninja. He won't rule out another chance at American Ninja Warrior next year, nor a shot at a show like "The Amazing Race," but football will always be his first priority.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/06/25/kamerion-wimbley-kills-it-on-american-ninja-warrior/"Training for football always comes first," Wimbley said. "But this was a lot of fun. Hopefully, this will encourage others to go out and try it."

I watch this with the kids, we can't get enough ninja warrior. We saw the epsidoe with Wimbley. He was on the bubble hoping to advance and needed the final competitors to tank. Unfortunately one of them went out and set the course record sending Wimbley home. I hated to see him go, it's rare to see a big guy on the show.

A final observation, I prefer the original ninja warrior (even with subtitles) more. Instead of trying to be a badass, most competitors genuinely act humble and honored to be there whether they fail or not. Their courses used to be harder as well, but lately the american ninja warrior seems to have upped their difficulty.

This is just to see who the 100 are that advance to face Mt Midoriamo though, so the hardest parts are still to come. I think it is kind of funny that they don't actually get to go to Japan to try out the actual course, just the version they made in Vegas.

You'd have to catch him first, my money's on him. And what's so bad about it? He's spending time training at home getting stronger and achieving things only a fraction of populace will ever do and all it would take is an hour or so, power drill, spackle, and paint to make the room pristine again?

The run by Kacy Catanzaro at the 2014 Dallas finals is awesome.

She is the first woman to complete this course and qualify for the show’s final “Mt. Midoriyama” challenge in Vegas.
Also a fellow Towson Tiger alum!
That run was awesome. Wife and I were out of our seats. Badass chicks rule.

But this is Isaac Caldiero's year. He would have sleepwalked to the mountaintop last year if he hadn't had a major shoe fail. Now that he knows what kind of footgear to wear so he doesn't slide down the plexiglass, I'm not sure I've ever seen an obstacle that will challenge him. The later stages of ANW were pretty much built for freeclimbers, and he might be the best out there.

Been a fan since early 2000's. Ive only ever seen one guy win total victory. That fisherman from Japan. I think only 3 guys have ever won in the 20+ years theyve done it.

love this thing.

I think there were three women who completed the whole course this year to qualify for the finals in vegas.

2 other women have qualified since Kacy Catanzaro did.

Michelle Warnky

Meagan Martin

Also, I'd love to see John Dodson try this.

edit: I didn't realize KC just passed stage2. The links above are women passing stage 1 (prior to when KC did a week or two ago, had never been completed by a woman)

Her upper body strength and stamina are insane. I never thought a women would make it past stage II but she kicked its a**.

And she flies up the warped wall at only 5 foot. She's amazing.

When this aired I had this on while doing something else. I don't even watch this show. Apparently I lucked out as I saw tiny Kacy master this course from start to finish. This was one of the most compelling things I've ever seen. After each conquered obstacle I was fistpumping, shouting "Yeah!" to nobody in particular.

The only thing that ruined it was her boyfriend climbing the structure to steal part of the spotlight. We get it, Brent, you were good in previous years...but you didn't even qualify this year. Get off the course.

The Japanese show was so much better... it just had all of the little things that are missing from the American version. The hammy commentary, the oddball first round contestants, the uber-serious masters with their home-training courses, etc.

I know the Japanese have their own level of quirk... but teh bolded just described what I've seen of this show.

This just in: still mind-bendingly awesome.

Also, the chick this week in Denver sucked. :(

She got as far as a lot of people- too short.

But yeah- that guy is a freaking monster- grandstanding on the door knob thing? Made that whole course look like it was easy and fun.

I have an irrational  of this show.

i watched most of the entire episode last night. it was kind of fun. it's very "American Gladiators" but without the HGH or WWE action. could use more eye candy but while we wait for football it will do.

you haven'tr seen it before?

it's interesting, in that the athletes are mostly people who work and perform their craft in isolation- borderline nerds, just super-fit... but are now thrust onto a stage. Love seeing how awkward most of them are, while still being absolute beasts.

That long haired rock climbing dude just killed it. Looking at him you'd never guess he had the upper body strength to breeze through so easily. He was amazing.

Watched the stage 1 Vegas finals last night. Kinda bummed that the jumping spider is physically impossible for Kacy to complete because she nailed the jump/feet part of the equation.
