@offdee I feel your pain. Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. I have had the same issues for quite a while. I can fall asleep in minutes. But when I wake up, I am up for good and can't fall back to sleep. I get up about 4:30 every day. Like you, I have tried a bunch of things that haven't worked. Oddly enough, this situation only got worse a couple of years ago when I got COVID (and has stayed that way ever since). The worst is getting woken up by accident, as I will stay up from whenever that incident occurs.
Back 10 years ago I did a sleep study, and they mentioned I had the mildest of sleep apnea (but only laying in one position). I've tried getting a ton of exercise to be dog tired when I go to bed. Didn't matter. Tried changing my diet or what beverages I consumed. Didn't make a difference. I've tried going to bed earlier to maybe get more sleep and wake up the same time. Didn't work . . . I only woke up earlier. I tried staying up longer to maybe sleep in later. I still would wake up at 4:30.
The same thing happens when I travel. Time zones don't matter. Jet lag doesn't matter. I wake up at 4:30 local time, no matter what the time zone is, no matter how tired I should be, etc. Even if I am home alone, nothing to disturb me, I still get up at 4:30. I have no explanation for why this happens, and I have yet to find a way / a method / a supplement / a medication to remedy it. AT this point, I just accept that's the way things are and have given up trying to find an explanation and a way to sleep longer.
