When you win you pick last, so I assume many of you all pick last or next to last in a lot of your leagues. This is a slightly different league as we use the 6th round every year as a keeper round...max you can keep on your roster is 3. I had LJ, Lee Evans, and Michael Vick...obviously I cut Vick before we started tonight. And having LJ...next best keeper that anyone has on a roster is Frank Gore.
Top20 RB that were already keepers included...LJ, Maroney, Gore, McGahee, Brandon Jacobs(iffy there)
Top30 WR that were already keepers included Lee Evans, Roy Williams, Javon Walker, DJax, Deion Branch, Chambers, Fitz, Ward,
Top20 QB that were already keepers included Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Vince Young, Eli Manning
You can see that a lot of pretty good palyers are off the board. 10 teams, 3 keepers...round 3 is like round 5-6 in reality.
6 points all TD, 1 pt per 20pass/10rush/10rec...NO PPR, 1QB/2RB/3WR/TE/PK/Def
I knew the RB run was going to be fierce and I played around with a couple of RB that I hoped would be there at the turn.
Travis Henry: Unfortunately he went at 1.09 or I would have taken him
Clinton Portis: I know it's early but I felt as my RB2 I would be putting a guy on my team that could help push me over the edge. I see a lot of upsdie for him. I chickened out and passed on Portis, in fact Portis ended up on the guy who had LT with the 2.10 pick...I am not excited about that pairing, thank God that owner did not do well the rest of the way and has questionable WR IMO.
1.10: Rudi Johnson...I ended up taking Rudi and I think he is best suited as an RB2. It is not a PPR league so I am not losing much by rostering him, and CInci has a nice run schedule, especially during the playoffs which I think I have a great chance to make.
With my next pick I wanted to go WR. I almost went WR/WR on the turn with TO/Steve Smith but opted to split the picks instead.
2.01: Terrell Owens...6 years he has posted 13+ TDs...even if you think Steve Smith racks up more yards, Ownes can bridge that gap quickly with his TD...I think he has a great chance to be the #1WR...top5 for sure. I didn't consider anyone else here except Steve Smith.
3.10: Andre Johnson...I wanted to get my WR3 nailed down and I felt the trio of TO/Evans/A.Johnson was going to be pretty solid even in a 10 team league. I also think the team with Fitz/Wayne/Tj Housh is sitting really pretty as well. My only other WR around here was Boldin...personal preference I guess but I think Houston will be playing from behind and Schaub and AJ will be getting some garbage time together to rack up garbage time points.
4.01: Adrian Peterson...I screwed this up as I wanted to take McNabb but I was smarter than everyone and felt like I could get a QB on the next spin. McNabb would get gobbled up by the only other team that did not have a QB. peterson is my RB3 and has the same bye week as Rudi but I felt like he also has a lot of upside and if I need to upgrade I can always put a package together. "Cadillac" was on the board and was a consideration here as well.
5.10: Santana Moss...what is MOP doing? taking a WR4 when you know you need to lock down a QB? Just too much value IMO and the dropoff after moss was significant. I felt the 4 some of TO/Evans/AJ/S.Moss would give me a lot of flexibility in case of match ups and again I have starters that will be on my bench and can make trades as need be.
OK, the 6th round is our keeper round and I think I did the right thing...
6.01: Michael Turner...this league is slanted towards RB and Turner could be top20...maybe top10-15 if he hits the right team next year. I like the idea of him and LJ going into the draft next season with lee Evans to boot...again I should have probably secured a QB and I will pay for that as you will see on the next turn.
Cutler, Leinart, Russell, Rivers, and Brady Quinn were all taken as keeper picks in the 6th round...mainly because there wasn't a lot left at RB and WR. Brandon Jackson at 6.04 and Jerious Norwood at 6.09 were the only other RB taken around here.
7.10: Todd Heap...I wanted Romo so bad I could taste it as the picks were coming down...the teams were all well on their way of getting their 2nd QBs in these middle rounds...guy at 7.09 who already has Carson palmer on his team reached out and grabbed Tony Romo. It's not the end of the world but it would have stabilized my roster as I usually have Vick to fall back on and start taking Qbs in the mid to late rounds. I went ahead and grabbed a top TE...Gates went in the early 3rd so I felt getting Heap down at this point was a steal.
8.01: Matt HAsselbeck...I needed a QB and had to do something Alex Smith was on the board as was J.P.Losman but as a QB1 i was not real excited. Hasselbeck is solid if nothing else. Possible top10 numbers some weeks. I would use some of the tools from FBG along with a QB thread I spotlighted a few QBs in order to fill out the rest of my roster as you will see.
9.10: Jake Delhomme...Say what you will but he has a soft pass schedule and I think he can rebound from last season. He has one of the top WR to throw to in the game and I as a QB2 I am more than comfortable with a guy that has had a couple of top15 seasons.
10.01: Lamont Jordan...I saw value at this point...and we have set rosters where we must fill 5 spots...he was the only starting RB still on the board and I felt like I might be able to move him after week2 or 3 before Rhodes gets back. Oakland has some favorable match ups early on.
So at this point I have 2 QB, 5 RB, 4WR, and a TE...I can live with that.
Now we have to fill out 6 WR slots...no more and no less...a lot of teams were just sitting there on their starting 3 WRs and not getting good quality depth...I saw players like Curry, Hacket, Horn, Bennett, Wilford, Marshall, and yes the Bears homer in front of me that took Romo chose Devin Hester...all those names went in the 10th/11th round...I was going to wait till very late to take another WR as I was set with my starting 4...you tell me what you would do with these 2 still on the board.
11.10: Isaac Bruce
12.01: Donte Stallworth...as my WR6! Granted I can't start him and Bruce over my other 4 but certainly I can package those 2 to someone if I need a QB upgrade or RB upgrade at some point...it just screamed value to me.
13.10: Rex Grossman...pairs well with Delhomme. Rex might be a joke to some but against some east defenses he can rack up the points. He has those 2-3 TD performances and that's what you want out of your QB3. I was happy to get him to round out my QB stable.
14.01: Jacksonville Jaguars...I wanted the Vikings and thought they would be there next go around as my roster was pretty full and I just needed a TE2 and my Def and PKs...Vikes unfortunately were snared up at the top of the 15th round.
15.10: Oakland Raiders...have a lot of teams to face that turn the ball over a lot. They pair nicely with Jax.
16.01: Josh Scobee...was top5 on FBG projections...was the 15th PK taken in this draft
17.10: Heath Miller...will never start him over Heap but he was there so I took him.
18.01 Mike Nugent...have to have 2 PK in this league.:
I'll give a rundown of some of the other teams...I am not going to run away with anything as I did last season. This league is about 10 years old.
1st pick: This team has a lot of potential at the RB position with Portis playing along with LT...looks tough.
QB: Big Ben and Favre
RB: LT, Portis, Chester,
WR: Colston, Reg Brown, H.Ward(keeper), Muhammed, Jenkins
TE: Shockey(keeper)
2nd pick: This team is playoff bound for sure, very strong
QB: McNabb, Losman
RB: SJax, Maroney(keeper), Norwood, Kev Jones
WR: Fitz(keeper), Wayne, TJ Housh, Calvin Johnson...this is sick really.
TE: Cooley
3rd pick: Also pretty solid IMO
QB: Rivers, Kitna, Schaub
RB: Shaun, MJD, Cadillac, DeShaun(keeper), L.White
WR: Steve Smith, VJax, S.Holmes, DJax(keeper), Hackett and Moulds
TE: Ben Watson
4th pick: Not as strong as a lot of others
QB: Manning (1.04)
RB: McGahee(keeper), Benson, Lewis, Betts
WR: Edwards(keeper), Deion Branch(keeper), Galloway, Porter, Booker
TE: Gates
5th pick: Started with Gore...IMO he could have done better at WR in the 2nd/3rd turn.
QB: Bulger, Leinart, and Eli(keeper)
RB: Gore(keeper), FWP, Ronnie Brown, Chris Brown
WR: Roy Williams(keeper), Plax, Coles, Jennings, Curry,
TE: Alge Crumpler
6th pick: in a 10 team league this team doesn't seem as strong as others
QB: Brees, Cutler
RB: Addai, Jacobs(keeper), T.Jones, T.Bell,
WR: Boldin, Cotchery, Chamber(keeper), Curtis, B.Marshall
TE: V.Davis and J.Witten
7th pick: Good starting line up but not a lot of depth
QB: Brady(keeper), Campbell and TJax...never gonna start his QB2/3 except on Brady's 1 lone bye week.
RB: Reg Bush, Edge, Julius Jones, Brandon Jackson, Morency
WR: Javon Walker(keeper), Holt, R.Moss, Glenn, Kennison,
TE: KW II(keeper)
8th pick: WR depth is not there
QB: Vince Young(keeper), Penny and Green
RB: Westbrook, Deuce, A.Green, Fred Taylor, W.Dunn(keeper)
WR: Chad Johnson, Donald Driver, Brandon Jones, Dwayne jarrett, Troy Williamson, Anthony Gonzalez
TE: Gonzo
9th pick: RB are not that strong and this league is slanted to the RB position.
QB: C.Palmer(keeper), Romo, Garcia
RB: T.Henry, M.Lynch, MBIII, DeAngelo(keeper)
WR: Harrison, Berrian, M.Clayton, D.Henderson, Mason, Hester,
TE: LJ Smith
Not my best work but I think I have a good shot at making the playoffs. I might have to package a couple of trades together but what else is new...I always have a different roster at the end of the season than what I start with. The teams with the early picks do look strongest.
Top20 RB that were already keepers included...LJ, Maroney, Gore, McGahee, Brandon Jacobs(iffy there)
