NorCal+SoCal Fires (Napa/Sonoma/Mendocino/Ventura) (1 Viewer)

Stay safe out there, praying for everyone to make it through. Stuff can be replaced, people can't.

Also, it's probably been touched on, but since California has a tendency to have lots of fires, why isn't there a better fire mitigation/prevention system in place? Florida had bad fires for several years, including where the muck in Lake Okeechobee burned about a decade ago when the lake levels dropped to about half of its current level(By the way, that stuff stinks when it burns, and they couldn't go out and fight it, since it burned under the surface, and there was a huge risk of firefighters going out to fight it and falling through into a place where it burned underneath them, and there's no way to get them out). Since then, they do regular controlled burns and an aggressive brush removal program.

I recall regular controlled burns in NCal...but I guess its a big state

I must have gotten hot and opened my bedroom window in the middle of the night. My entire house smells like a fire pit now. Luckily that’s the only issue I have so a small price to pay. Just drove over to Pinole to get some things and the wind is whipping across the Richmond bridge. Bread, pbnj and whiskey purchased! Novato target is open for those that need stuff up here

Crazy winds on the Bay Bridge this morning around 845am.

The bridge on 80 north of Berkeley was closed due to fire in Vallejo.

My relatives in Lafayette were ordered to evacuate this afternoon.

Stay safe Bay Area.

So 5% is like 95% ?  We don't have fires here really so not clear with this.
Opposite...it's actually 5%

But there's "containment", which iirc is about how much firebreak/non-combustible  is surrounding it and there's "controlled" which I think is more about how put out it is. I think.

5% contained means that they've created a barrier by digging ditches only 5% of the area. But the fire can still spread if conditions worsen. After contained then it starts to be controlled. It's like drawing a line around the area so less chance fire getting out of control, then starting to control it until it's out. That's how I understand it.

My in-laws street was literally carved out of a segment of evacuation zone along highway 12.  It's like for a large stretch of highway 12, they decided that everything North of the highway should be evacuated, except for this random court my in-laws live on.  Why would this be?  it's not even under evac warning.  Literally one house over, across the street is under mandatory evac but my in-laws aren't even on warning.  How do they come up with the zig-zag evacuation zone borders?

An  inverse bell curve on the map just missed me. I got the text warning but got lucky.

We are supposed to get power in Novato at 7pm tonight until 7 am tomorrow and then off again till Wednesday. San Rafael just got some power back on so I’m hoping it’s soon. Just threw out everything in my fridge and freezer including all the deer meat I brought back from MI   but a small inconvenience in the big picture.

High winds expected tonight in north bay. Now parts of Santa Rosa are on alert.

Pge will give credits to those without power thanks to Newsom!

Getty fire in LA was caused by downed tree branch on power lines. Le Bron sent food truck for the firefighters there. 👍

My son lives a few blocks from the Library on the fairway of our golf club - Wood Ranch. They were doing helicopter drops from lakes on the course. Fire went around and burned Tierra Rejada golf course and heading West. If it turns south at all we’re in trouble. On a freakin plane from Orlando. Need to get back to my family. I may be done with California. Never thought I’d say that

Hoping the best for you and yours. Scary #### indeed.

We bandied the idea of moving to OR after 2017....have a feeling it is back on the table.

Good luck judge and quint. I love CA too much too leave, plus I have fam here. If I was in a yearly fire zone I'd move but not out of state.

Existing fires contained. Weather has changed so high winds aren't an immediate threat. It still hadn't rained though.

It was weird being out of town this last round - power was out for 4-5 days at our place, but we left on a pre-planned 10-day trip to Oregon the day before so missed it all.

Still have a second freezer to empty out tomorrow night - filled the garbage last week when we got back with everything from the first fridge/freezer.

Glad everything is under control now, and hoping we don't have a round two before the rains finally arrive - which so far the forecasts don't seem to predict happening this month at all.

Kincade fire is fully contained. S. Cal remains on high fire alert through the end of the year. Temps are above average with no rain in sight.
