NY Jets at Buffalo (1 Viewer)

I'm going to live blog this for a little bit.  Tyrod throws the ball out of bounds.  McCoy runs for 3. Announcer charitably refers to the jets as having a "revamped secondary".  12 yard pass to Charles clay.  First down.

McCoy into the pile for no gain.  Penalty. Tyrod throws the ball into a jets defender.  2nd and 20, Mccoy runs for 20, holding the ball like a loaf of bread. Mike tolbert runs for 14. A graphic refers to the defensive line as a strength of the jets.  Tolbert for 3, Mccoy back in,  runs for 4. 3rd and 3, the jets pass rush almost gets to tyrod, who runs for 9. First and ten, McCoy runs for 10.

First and goal from the 4, Mccoy runs into the vaunted jets defensive line, and a penalty is called on the defense.  Holding.  On the nose tackle.  The strength of the jets.

Fearing a blowout, the bills bring in Tolbert, who runs for minus 3. Tyrod throws the ball into a defender to bring up third down. Then this gem

One thing I forgot about in getting excited for the new season is how infuriatingly awful NFL officials are.  I'd like to thank the crew of this game for reminding me.

Honest question... if a player running with the ball hits one of his own players, falls down... is that a tackle if the opposing team did not touch him?

Hmmmmm

That's a bad call... player isn't down if his own teammate causes the contact that brings him down.  That should have been Buffalo ball off the fumble with no penalty.

Tyrod throws an interception in the end zone. Terrible.  The jets defender, uncertain of what to do, allows instinct to take over and begins running for an easy touchdown.  Another jets defender, realizing that this could cause them to take an insurmountable lead in the game and cost them the number one pick, literally runs into the intercepting defender and causes him to crash to the ground.  A bills player, who actually wants to win, hits the jet defender, and another jet, fearing that this will give them a penalty,  dives atop the pile long after the whistle, and gets called for a dead ball personal foul.

after a jets drive which actually involved two catches for positive yardage ends with 4th and 5, the jets punter gets his first of many opportunities for the year, and the jets and bills faithful are treated to a commercial break

Vintage Bills.

Int in end zone, not a simple Int, but a god-will deflection into a Jets' arms.

Then, during the run back, the refs fail to call a Buffalo recovery on a fumble.

This is Bills in a nutshell.

Terrible the announcers didn't even pick it up.  4th string crew as usual for Bills telecasts.

The red zone channel is now doing a summary of what's going on in the nfl. I guess every game is on commercial break.  Let's check that jets bills game.  Whoa, they're playing.  I guess red zone is merciful.  Unexpectedly, the jets have a 2nd and 1 and are threatening to make a rare first down.  Their quarterback, whose name really doesn't matter does it, drops back and the jets allow a bills defender to run after him unblocked while he runs as far as he can backwards before taking the sack.  I flip away.

I swear I'm not making this up, I flipped back, it's 3rd and 21, and the bills run Tolbert straight up the gut for a Leroy hoardesque 3 yards. Field goal unit comes on, and they miss.  We've got a barn burner here.

I'm all for using McCoy in the screen game, but any screen that starts with the RB running backwards behind the line of scrimmage is a bad setup.

Taylor not really even looking at the WRs.

And Taylor just too slow to recognize that blitz. If he flipped that Ball to McCoy, McCoy would have had 20 on it.

He's going to be showered with targets every game.
This. He's going to get the bulk of Sammy's targets this year, until/unless one of the WRs steps up. Which we all know won't happen.

Halftime adjustments.  Jets return a kick from their own end zone, then Powell rushes for a loss on first down.  A momentary burst of ego comes over him, and he runs for ten then catches a pass for a first down.  Bowles calls him off the field.  Forte runs for a loss.  Powell comes back in and wisely drops a pass.  The inconsequential current quarterback for the jets attempts to throw an interception, but the bills wisely decline and the jets are forced to punt instead.

Kyle Williams came out of nowhere to make that tackle. I love that guy.

Also, that was a great play by White before that. Would have been awesome if he could have hauled that ball in, but that would have been highlight reel stuff.

I've switched back and forth a couple times but can't seem to catch the game actually being played.  A bunch of commercials, a montage with people making buffalo wings that must make bills fans every bit as excited as when they show patriots games and show someone making lobster.   I switched back again and they were showing a bunch of highlights from old games, like some kind of apology to people who actually like football and are forced to watch this.

Back to the red zone channel a couple minutes later and it appears the bills scored.  With an 8 point deficit, look for the jets to make an effort.

The Bills front 4 have not been able to create much pressure today.  That's a really bad sign for the rest of the season.
