at 125K being middle class ?!?
How can you afford to live on Long Island or anywhere near NYC making only 125K for the household.
I sense sarcasm.I don't even think they should be allowed on college grounds, except to work in the maintenance department or something.
Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. It takes time for these students to get educated through this free tuition program. It takes even more time for these students to grow up, get their feet wet in politics, learn how to run a campaign, and get elected to the legislature. Then we'll finally have a legislature that can grasp basic math.It covers the tuition line item on this chart.
A good step. That line item can be reduced in other ways, as noted throughout the thread. I also agree with the use of sliding scales and percentages. Um, hello basic math?
Yeah because tuition has held steady in the last 20 years while wages have skyrocketed. They can work hard in high school and get student loans like the vast majority of the rest of us.
Are you implying that what millions of students are currently doing can't be done? "Deep thinking there"Yeah because tuition has held steady in the last 20 years while wages have skyrocketed.Deep thinking there.
No but every post reads like you are a victim. Yeah Yeah you walked up hill to school both ways and everyone else should. Are you implying that what millions of students are currently doing can't be done? "Deep thinking there"
Pay for your own college just like I did! Why do you want everything handed to you slacker?http://www.collegecalc.org/colleges/pennsylvania/gannon-university/
My tuition in 1988 was 5,654.00 in 2016 it is 28,590.00. So basically it costs 4x more per year plus room and board.
They aren't doing it. Student loan defaults are skyrocketing. Are you implying that what millions of students are currently doing can't be done? "Deep thinking there"
owning a home is easy... if you already own it. needing to buy or even rent a home- fuhggedabowdit.I have no clue how people who aren't millionaires survive in NYC.
I only know a handful of people who live there, and none of them live by themselves. They tell me that owning a home is basically impossible.
I would guess that a majority of these defaults were people who didn't give much thought on how their college education would translate to a higher income after college....They aren't doing it. Student loan defaults are skyrocketing.
Maybe we should make it illegal to be poor and fix the fundamental problem here. And let's nevermind that the point of the Einstein above is that students ARE making it fine.I would guess that a majority of these defaults were people who didn't give much thought on how their college education would translate to a higher income after college....
Maybe don't take out six figures in loans for an art/history/sociology/etc degree and have no clue how you'll will make money after college.
I certainly don't recall getting to vote on this.If this is what the constituents want, who am I to argue? I dont live there, I wont be paying for it.
Well, you did. You elected a proxy and this is what was decided.I certainly don't recall getting to vote on this.
I don't understand how this whole voting system works. you mean to say I vote for somebody and they do things on my behalf?Well, you did. You elected a proxy and this is what was decided.
Oh, dont be alarmed. No matter who you elected, you will get screwed over. Have a good day.I don't understand how this whole voting system works. you mean to say I vote for somebody and they do things on my behalf?
unfortunately- this wasn't something I recall ever being discussed as an issue.
WatMaybe we should make it illegal to be poor and fix the fundamental problem here. And let's nevermind that the point of the Einstein above is that students ARE making it fine.
Find out someone is poor, and BAM. Arrest them, to prison they go, where they can't go out and get liberal arts degrees. Problem solved.
Yeah...but coal.If allowed to thrive things like free tuition and single payer health care are a huge net benefit to society.
A healthy, educated work force contribute far more to society than an unhealthy, uneducated work force.
No but you get a warhead with ever degree.Beer and weed are included...right?
I think I know where you're going with this. I'm not sure about the whole idea of free college but I'd feel a lot better if we were steering people towards degrees that are actually in high demand.Playing along here...
are these students allowed to get degrees in dance, theatre and poetry?
Yeah! And while we're at it, screw those kindergarteners too! I'm tired of footing the bill for them. We'll it's not free to taxpayers now is it?
And how do people treat things they're given at no cost?
How long until we start demanding free food for everyone?
Your worldview is distrubingly lameare these students allowed to get degrees in dance, theatre and poetry?
What a bizarre contention but I will go equally bizarre in the other direction.Tuition prices are skyrocketing because the supply of College is so much lower than the Demand. It's completely moronic to think that raising the demand even higher by making it "free" won't further exacerbate the problem. Good luck New York...enjoy the $200k/year tuition costs that result from this...all paid by the taxpayer, whether those people get any benefit or not.
you just learning this fact about taxes now?all paid by the taxpayer, whether those people get any benefit or not.

or ill go in the other-other direction.....show me an example of anything that the Gov't pays for and the price actually went down? What a bizarre contention but I will go equally bizarre in the other direction.
Kill college athletics.
125k in the Boston area is living paycheck to paycheck$125k isn't even lower middle class? HTF much money do regular people make there?
So what you're saying is that we should collectivize everything...comrade?Yeah! And while we're at it, screw those kindergarteners too! I'm tired of footing the bill for them.
And that road in your neighborhood. I don't drive on it. If you want a road there then put up a damn toll booth you moocher.
Why would you study art history if you want to learn how to draw?If I, as a 45 year old man, want to go back to school to study art history because I might have an unction to draw a picture someday.... you should foot that bill?
It's an elective. Why do you want to stifle my dream? Why would you study art history if you want to learn how to draw?
I would be more than happy to have a few of my tax dollars help you achieve your dreams my friendIt's an elective. Why do you want to stifle my dream?
Maybe I'll just check out a book from the library. Thanks though!I would be more than happy to have a few of my tax dollars help you achieve your dreams my friend
What? Your post that I quoted was exactly what you're describing here. Just a bunch of snark. Free stuff isn't free!!! Why don't we all just be socialists then?!??! Real "adroit" stuff there. So what you're saying is that we should collectivize everything...comrade?
If I, as a 45 year old man, want to go back to school to study art history because I might have an unction to draw a picture someday.... you should foot that bill?
Now, if you were adroit at making an argument instead of slathering a non sequitur in snark you could probably convince me that it's in society's interest to invest in providing workers with productive skills usable in a modern world economy.
But I get that it's less mentally taxing to simply be a richard.
I'm sorry. You're right and I really was being as bad as I was accusing you of being. What? Your post that I quoted was exactly what you're describing here. Just a bunch of snark. Free stuff isn't free!!! Why don't we all just be socialists then?!??! Real "adroit" stuff there.
People have already made the argument about a better society with more educated people, so I didn't feel the need to double up there.
How about instead of your snarky one liners that could be used to argue against literally any government funded program in existence, you tell us why this one is crossing the line on what tax money should be used for compared to all of the other awesome stuff we use it for? Adroitly, if you would.
So is it capitalistic supply and demand that is driving costs or government subsidizing tuition that is driving the cost?or ill go in the other-other direction.....show me an example of anything that the Gov't pays for and the price actually went down?
Hell yeah! Round up all the poor people and incarcerate them...you know, give them a place to live, food, basic healthcare...hey, wait a minute...Maybe we should make it illegal to be poor and fix the fundamental problem here. And let's nevermind that the point of the Einstein above is that students ARE making it fine.
