NYC Trip (1 Viewer)

The Maverick family is looking at a trip to NYC later this year.  October probably.  Wife, 8 year old daughter, mother in law and myself.  Probably mostly touristy stuff.

I think some things they want to do are the staten island ferry and see a show or two (on or off Broadway), maybe the natural history and children's museums.  Any other suggestions?

Suggestions on where to stay and hotels?  

Best place to fly into?  It was suggested Newark since La Guardia is under construction.

Just FYI, @Koya is a Texan, I wouldn't listen to that F150 driving maniac's advice... Everyone else should be able to help though.
