OAK @ JAC (1 Viewer)

I expect a monster game from Fred Taylor today. At this point I'm wondering if my preseason projection of 1,300 and 5 TDs was a bit low.

Only interesting sub-plot here may be how much time JaMarcus gets. McCown will start, and Kiffin has intimated tht Russell will finish. Would love to see at least a half from him.

I agreed. The kid has looked pretty good and it's as good a time as any to give him a look.

Could be a disaster for his confidence. Jacksonville has a hungry, nasty defense and will blitz the hell out of Jamarcus. If he gets hit early and often, I hope for his sake that Kiffin pulls him. With fargas out, the offense is going to be one dimensional at best. This is probably not the ideal defense to face in a rookie QB's first start.

On the other hand, the Jags pass rush finally showed some life last week against Pitt. Look for them to gain some momentum/confidence today and next week. If they come to life, watch out NFL.

At some point a few weeks ago did Fred Taylor suddenly decide that he was just playing around for the first 7 weeks and now wants to be the best RB in the NFL?

Heh, not that it mattered because the guy was juked out of his pants anyway, but that last Raider down the field was absolutely leveled squarely in the back around the 10 yard line. Funny how they never call that penalty on anything except kick returns.

Greg Jones and Fred Taylor both getting to play in the Pro Bowl together would be awesome.

IIRC they are both immediate backups to the starters at their respective positions? With Neal and FWP injured, their chances are good.

That Jaguars punt return was incredibly risky, but man was it pretty. Del Rio and DeCamillis have shown they're willing to take those risks; Del Rio with his playcalling on fourth down; and DeCamillis with his onside kick attempt earlier in the season. Still, against the Raiders and up 14 - 3? As a Jags fan I feel conflicted on this. Up 21 - 3 it's hard to feel bad though.

It's good practice for them if they need to do it down the road.

Thoughts on Russell from those that get this game?
He is physically impressive, but his decision making has a long way to go still. Pretty much what you would've expected from a rookie QB with a lot of potential and little experience.

Russell looks awful. Errant passes, terrible decisions. About what you'd expect from a rookie's first start though.

Wow. Instead of settling for a long FG try, the three straight personal fouls gave JAX the ball at the 2. Garrard then throws a pick.
