Noel Gallagher has quit rock band Oasis, saying he can no longer work with his brother Liam. Noel, the group's lead guitarist and chief songwriter, has recently been involved in a series of rows with frontman Liam.

The guitarist said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

Referring to the remaining shows of their current world tour, he added: "Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan." The band were due to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on Friday, but cancelled at the last minute.
They'll always be brothers, so I wouldn't bet against a reunion someday. There will also be the inevitable solo albums. But if it's quits for now, Oasis leaves a couple of near great albums, a few more good ones and a ton of great quotes. I know from past music threads that they have their detractors on this board. Some viewed them as a little more than a Beatles tribute. Noel unashamedly borrowed from the Beatles and others, but that's a long tradition in rock n roll. Most bands, including the Beatles, ripped riffs from their predecessors. Their best songs transcended their influences and their big sing-a-long choruses made them fan favorites.

If you take away the music, there's still the personalities and egos. In an era with few rock stars, Liam and Noel always carried themselves as such. They were never boring except for some off nights on stage.

Oasis is ####### awesome. But they are always fighting with each other. They'll be back. At least I hope.

:lmao: I really like Oasis, probably my top 5-7 favorite bands of all time although the music snobs here don't like them.I think Noel will come out with a kick ### solo album. Liam maybe not so much

Would like them a LOT better if not for Liam's whiny vocals. I agree, Noel's got a great record in him.

Oasis? Really? People think they are a top 10 band? Oasis? When I think of that band I think of a bunch of tools that somehow figured out how to make about 3-4 really good songs, thats it. There is nothing impressive about their musical abilities or their songwriting. Just seems like a few catchy hooks and thats it.

Yes. Without a doubt and in fact one of the few bands I seem to like more and more with each year passing.

Great band. Let the comparisons continue because you know Noel will put out quality material as a solo artist...or Oasis could just continue with Noel taking over full time vocals. Hopefully he gets back to the swagger of Oasis' earlier recordings because recently that was the one missing piece to their releases.

Great band that I've seen several times. I think post Standing on the Shoulders (their best album IMO) they dropped most of the douchiness and really tried to make a go of it.

Fun read by Klosterman:

Noel Interview
I thought this was a great read, but then again I'm an Oasis and Klosterman fan so I had to like it.
Love Noel's attitude. Thinking like a business. Our IPO made us millionaire's. We are a succes no matter what now. Enjoy fame and not take things to serious. Don't be miserable trying to duplicate a moment in time/opportunity. Grantland is fantastic. Think it's going to be a huge success. Christ's sake got me reading an article about V. Williams the other day.

Footballguys- Seriously the Free for All is one of the best resources on the net. Bryant/Dodds should even think of trying to drive people to it who are not into fantasy football. It's superb in keeping me up to date on news and all the stuff that is trending on the net.

These are all a must to cycle through each day. Sports and sunday night television are terrific but not much else would have me watching tv over what can be enjoyed through these sites.

Edit to add Morning Joe and PTI are in the daily rotation. I have no kids. Two amazing nephews though. Like the current setup.

I saw them three times during their initial run in 1997, 2000 and 2008. They were one of the few bands I've seen multiple times that improved as they went along. The band at the end with Andy Bell and Gem Archer was a much tighter outfit that the brothers' mates from Manchester who were there at the beginning.
