Alex Gage - Fender Telecaster

🎶Play it play it faster on your fender telecaster
Then you leave, like a game
More you're gone the more things stay the same

Baby play it faster on your fender telecaster
Incandescent city streets
In the space between
Will you remember me?

You’ll never be mine
I’m wasting my time
Where did I go wrong?
Where did I go wrong🎶

The Dream Machine - Frankenstein

🎶Be mine, Frankenstein🎶

New Brighton UK, Psych Rock, Indie Rock band who cite Patti Smith and The Brian Jonestown Massacre as influences.

This came out in March, but didn't get much attention at the time.

Deeper Sleeper - This Is Red Leader

A haunting, somewhat hypnotic track from the just released solo album by Joshua Harmon of Backseat Lovers.

Tears For Fears - Say Goodbye To Mum And Dad

Tears For Fears never gets old despite appearances.

Pretty cool that Roland Orzabel and Curt Smith are still making amazing music 40 years after their incredible debut.

A friend of mine in the UK just sent me this recent interview on UK TV (Channel 5 News) of the band.

The Wombats - Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want To Come

🎶
Sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come
It's not that I hate you, I just hate everyone
I don't want to socialise unless I'm getting numb
Sorry I'm late, I didn't want to come
🎶

Selfish Sons - Revolver 🔫

Brisbane, Australia alt rock trio. Currently touring the US opening for Lil Wayne and Kid Laroi. They played L.A. last month at The Roxy - unfortunately I just got into the band in the last week, so I missed seeing that gig.

I've long been a fan of Danish post-punks Iceage. Their frontman Elias Rønnenfelt just released his solo debut. It's a more rootsy affair with country and folk influences in the stew with Rønnenfelt's emotive and sometimes pitchy vocals on top.

It's a departure from Iceage's sound. I don't know what to think about it now but it seems like it could be a grower.

Fan Girl - Flood

Some deliciously grungy post punk from this Melbourne, Australia band. 🇦🇺

I have a soft spot for the bands coming out of the London post-punk scene these days. To be honest, though, the sound strays quite a bit from its post-punk roots.

I'm really digging the debut album from Fat Dog. Such cool energy! They already have a cultish fanbase. It kind of has mix reviews and it probably one of those either love it or hate it albums. NME gave it five stars though.

Sample song "Wither":

We're going to see them next month. I'm not a huge fan of their record but their live show looks like a hoot. The drummer must get really hot under the rubber dog mask.

Just got back from Fat Dog. Their punk EDM krautrock noise works great live. Huge energy with a wild but very well behaved moshpit throughout the show. The keyboard player came onto the floor for a pushup contest with the audience which was a new one for me.

My only disappointments were the drummer never donned the dog mask and that I'm getting too old for this.

Shallow Dive - Undefined

Auckland, New Zealand teenage Post Punk revival Shoegaze band

The Cure's new album is finally here (after c16 years and goodness knows how many broken promises).

Off to see them tonight at the Troy (was one of the lucky 2,000 people to snag a ticket). If you have access to iPlayer in the UK, there is a new session and a new concert to stream. The Troxy gig will be livestreamed tonight, too.

That was some show. Well worth a look on Youtube if you get the chance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aWDlaxvEZo

A. Swayze & the Ghosts are Aussie punks with a good sneering singer. I've never seen them play but I'd bet the bass player has his instrument slung way low.

They're in regular rotation for me with all the other recent great Aussie punk bands. Stiff Richards (get it?... get it?) new album is a fun romp.

I'll look for that Iceage singer album too. Always liked their stuff. Hoping I like it more than I like Fontaine's singers solo stuff.

Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe! (Live at the 2024 MTV VMAs)

This was her first ever award show performance and she aced it.

"From a production viewpoint, this is a masterpiece. From a choreography and stunt viewpoint, this must have been a nightmare, but it went off so perfectly. Everyone involved in making this physically happen should be proud AF for pulling this off. Words cannot adequately describe how beautiful this is for so many reasons."

Here is the studio version of the song:

I can't believe people aren't here talking about this new The Cure album. I like them but have never really gotten into them but if someone told me this new album was just a re-release from some classic The Cure album from 1988 I would have believed it 100%.

Songs of a Lost World is one of the best albums of 2024 period, no caveats needed. If this was their debut album just coming out now, people would be losing their **** over how good this band was.

It is really good.

I’m listening now and I’m finding it meanders a bit in the intros, but if you’d taken a decade and a half-plus off, you might do the same and I can forgive the indulgence. Robert Smith sounds great and powerful. I will definitely say that. His voice, which is such an important instrument within the band (for me and my listening pleasure anyway), just sounds great.

It’s more orchestral than I remember. That must be what it is. Lots of strings. I mean, they always did that, but I don’t remember it to this degree. But it’s also more goth than the periods of them that I listen to.

I love how on theme it is. This isn’t the record of an older man trying to stay cool and hip. This is a guy who knows time isn’t on his side. I find it really moving and I’ll be honest it’s made me cry once or twice.

The album could be Disintegration vol. 2 - which was a much different sound then their earlier poppy sound.

When Bloodflowers came out in 2000, there was hype about it forming a trilogy with the darker albums -- Pornography and Disintegration. I always thought Bloodflowers fell flat in that regard. This new album actually fits that trilogy idea better. I think this is his best album since 1992's Wish. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Pretty Shivers - Bonnie & Clyde

Same title, but this is not a cover of the Georgie Fame hit of the 60's.

Alt Rock, Indie Pop, Power Pop, Country Rock, R&B band from Darwen UK.

Vocals reminds me of Savage Garden's To The Moon and Back.

Indigo Dream - A Bittersweet Goodbye

"We're Indigo Dream, we play Dreamy & Shimmering Shoegaze sounds from Helsinki, Finland."

Oeil - Quiet Lights

Oeil is a Tokyo, Japan based Shoegaze band.

Corvus & The Morning Star - Let's Go Back to the Start

Retro 60's/70s UK based Classic Rock band combines Psych Rock, Blues Rock and throws in a bit of Jangle.

Stereo Cupid - Dark Habit

🎶Just say YEAH! 🎸

Five-piece Manchester UK band, has been called "A sizzling live act"

@El Floppo What do you think about the new Cameron Winter song? I get the feeling I’m going to like this solo album more than the two Geese albums (which I liked a lot).

It's Father John Misty day! I love how he opens the album with a 9+ minute song ;)
Short album in terms of number of songs but not length. Really good stuff, I especially love Guess Time Makes a Fool of Us All.

New Kendrick is really solid as well.

Didn't know anything about that.. thanks!!
Sounds really cool too. I'll definitely keep an eye out.

Holograph - Green Sky

Capetown, South Africa band (now based in Amsterdam) that reminds me of Hope Sandoval and Mazzy Star.

Glim Spanky & Love Psychedelico - Ai Ga Michirumade

Nagano, Japan Blues Rock band that reminds of Delaney, Bonnie and Friends (when one of the friends was Eric Clapton 🎸 )

From Wiki: "Their retro sound (is) reminiscent of 1960s and 1970s rock bands"

I didn't see this combo coming. Sleaford Mods & Hot Chip

This band has sure changed since I was first introduced to them in 2006 with their LP "The Warning"

Here is a track off that LP (I thought it must have been a diferent Hot Chip but the Spotify bio says they are the same band).

Hot Chip - Boy From School (2006)

Flat Party - Madonna

🎶 You say
"I'll make you feel like you've never been touched before
I'll make you feel like Madonna baby"🎶

London Art Rock, Art Pop band, Post Punk band that is hard to classify. Reminding me here of I Don't Know How But They Found Me in their quirkiness.

This has one of the best videos I've seen this year, with the flavor of having been filmed in a Berlin cabaret in the 1930's except with modern instrumentation and some leftover cast members from The Walking Dead. 🧟‍♂️🧟‍♀️

Trying to predict my Spotify wrapped playlist did not work out so well as I forgot about the single-artist playlist I stream while sleeping in hotels. :oldunsure:

That said, only 2 of my top 5 artists had new releases this year, and I tend to think that one of them only made my list because of their older albums.

Speaking of old '80s musicians, The Cure have teased that their new album will release November 1, 2024. This time it seems for real. The album has been almost ready since 2019. It will be their first release since 2008.

Really big fan of A Fragile Thing. Its a good song.
It is a good song but the remix makes it even better. Intro doesn't meander and the piano has a heavier punch. Overall makes the tune more accesible IMO.

The Cure - A Fragile Thing (RS24 Remix)
