Keyside - Runaway

🎶
I wanna run away, wanna runaway
Lately I wanna runaway, wanna run away
I-I wanna run away, help me wanna runaway, baby
I want to run away with you
🎶

Pristine Jangle Pop from four piece Liverpool, England band.

Tears For Fears - The Girl That I Call Home (Official Music Video)

Impressive new release. They still got it! (y)

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but I'm really enjoying the new album by the The--the first the The album in the past 25 years---that's a lot of the's. Matt Johnson was ahead of his time (or behind?) in avoiding internet searches.

I'm looking forward to seeing them next month in SLC for the album tour........

Tempted to go see him in DC, but unlikely seeing as I was just there for another show

Last night, I caught Mk.gee in concert at a mid-size local live music venue. It was a pretty remarkable experience for a number of reasons.

1) It was a sold out show and, no joke, my wife and I were the oldest people in the house by 20 years easy. Not exaggerating. We did not see a single person older than early 30s.

2) Despite it being an incredibly packed house, the crowd of young people were mellow, polite and good-natured. It was also an incredibly diverse crowd (other than age).

3) By and large, the crowd was fully engaged in the performance. I hardly ever saw anyone on their phones, and the percentage of people filming songs during the show was maybe 1% at most. These kids were fully immersed in the live music experience with phones firmly in pockets. I was pretty surprised.

4) The music was groundbreaking. A style I’ve never heard before, but still within the genre of melodic rock. Mk.gee is an incredibly talented musician and performer, but also a humble mellow guy on stage. Sonically one of the most interesting shows that I’ve seen in a decade or more. My faith in the musical tastes of our youth is largely restored.

And I didn’t find Mk.gee on my own. My 22-year-old son turned me on to him, which makes sense I guess.

Here’s a live clip from a recent show.

This reminded me that one of my son's classmates/friend and musical colleague just recorded a couple songs with another HS guy he's busked with for the last few summers in Nantucket.

I like it. Kinda Alt j meets death cab, but I'm sure there are better comps. Mostly, good for them for writing, recording and putting this out into the world.

She's In Parties - The Times

"A captivating blend of Shoegaze and Dream Pop"

This band hails from Essex UK and cites the Cocteau Twins and Slowdrive as major influences. Band name is taken from a 1982 Bauhaus song with that title.

HYUKOH (혁오) & Sunset Rollercoaster - Y

A collaboration of two South Korean Indie/Alt bands. Hyrbrid of Pop Music, Electronica, Funk, R&B and Jazz

🎶I’m missing truth
I’m missing truth
The moon light shine
The moon light

Oh why
What’s the answer where to find?
Why why I had to choose one side?🎶

New Bon Iver landed today - EP coming in October.

Thom Southern - Fly Birdy Fly

1970's Rolling Stones meet 1990's Seattle Grunge

Southern is a Belfast, Ireland Alt/Indie artist.

The Montagues - Gravitate

North Wales Coast five-piece Alt Rock, Indie Rock guitar oriented band.

They remind me vaguely of Wishbone Ash and some other hard rock bands from the 70's and 80's.

Jake Bugg - I Wrote The Book

🎶 And he said:
"Don't tell me, 'cause you know I wrote the book
And trouble's been my shadow for so long
But the words I wrote, they won't do you any good
You gotta live your life before you're dead and gone 🎶

Latest from Jake Bugg. I think his voice is definitely an acquired taste (or maybe it is just a matter of getting used to it).

Wish I was in that Irish pub with all those folks, they all look they are having such a good time.

Sunstate - Tomorrow

Sunstate are an indie rock band from Wilmslow, Cheshire UK with a somewhat throwback retro sound of the 80s (although I can't say who exactely they remind me of).

flipturn - Rodeo Clown 🙂

🎶I've been riding
I've been rolling
I've thrown my reputation around
And I'm not a man with too many enemies
I'm just a rodeo clown 🎶

Fernandina Beach, Florida Indie Rock band.

An exciting list here. I’ll be sure to check out the new Bon Iver, Cure, Mount Eerie, Kim Deal and a few others. However, I’m most excited for Geordie Greep’s new album that drops tomorrow.

Which ones are you looking forward to?

I'll check out Porridge Radio. I really like their second album Every Bad.

Will eagerly check out Touché Amoré to see what they have to say. Always love doing that.

New album from Philadelphia band Wild Pink. It's a return to more of a rockish sound after their more contemplative previous record which dealt with John Ross' cancer diagnosis and recovery.

RIYL The War on Drugs I guess because of Ross' hushed vocals and the anthemic sound of the band but with less instrumental noodling than TWOD.

Tom Pointer - Fever (2024)

Southwest London, UK R&B Funk artist

🎶I can hardly breathe, I can hardly breathe, yeah🎶

Tom Pointer:
"Been jamming, playing and performing this song for years and I finally brought it to life to a groovy disco piece of fun."

Their first 2 albums are great---both were my #1's for their respective years.
I haven't loved the last 2 albums. Glad to hear this is a return to form---I'll give it a listen today.

The Smile - Bodies Laughing (Visualizer)

Latest from ex-Radiohead's Thom Yorke

Haunting, memorable and appropriate for the upcoming Halloween 🎃 with a visualizer video that looks like an 8-bit zombie video game.

Jake Bugg - Breakout

Unexpected and cool use of a Spanish Guitar.

From Jake Bugg's just released new album: A Modern Day Distraction.

Has The Dare been mentioned in this thread yet? Not my normal cup of tea, but I am a big fan of his album. It just feels like an indie sleeze party.

I mentioned The Dare previously as aping LCDs sound, fairly successfully. The full album is out and consistently good, if LCDs white guy electro dance sound is your thing

호아 HOA - I Don't Know Why

The Fab Four from LiverSeoul 🇰🇷

They got the 60's Merseybeat Beatles sound down pat.

Good retro fun pop!

Seven Year Witch - What's In The Trunk? 😲

Blues Rock, Hard Rock, Blues Punk band from Anderson, South Carolina

RIP Nell Smith, the young Canadian singer who a few years back put out a nice album of Nick Cave covers backed by The Flaming Lips. She was only 17.

Loving this new album from Wild Pink. Definitely a return to form.

My daughter saw their concert last night in Copenhagen and said it was an amazing show.

Looking forward to seeing them in SLC in February.

The Fitzkee Brothers, drummer is 17 and sings lead vocals and bass player is 19. Most of their live stuff is in the vein of the Allman Brothers. This is one of their originals

The Hard Quartet is kind of a supergroup with Stephen Malkmus and three guys from bands I've vaguely heard of. Their self-titled album is an enjoyable 90's-ish guitar-rock throwback with multiple singers and a good variety of songs.

Her New Knife - purepurepure

Shoegaze/Alternative band from Philladelphia, PA.

Ocean Alley - Tangerine 🍊

"A Psychedelic, Southern Rock inspired track"

Six-piece Australian Alternative/Indie Rock band

Jam Band-ish artist Keller Williams new album dropped and there’s a lot of electronica and hip hop elements to this one. Pretty interesting sound.

New Japandroids album is out today and it sounds like old Japandroids. I love old Japandroids... but I am just not feeling this album yet.

Man, I am in such a funk with new music this year. I have about 20 albums on my AoTY list, but not one of them stands out as my favorite.
