Observations on Urlacher vs. Broncos (1 Viewer)

Did anyone else notice how he just didn't look very good out there. He seemed hesitant at the point of attack and couldn't get off single blocks. When he did manage to get off a block, he missed tackles that he should have made. On other plays he would get fooled by the play fake and take false steps which would run himself out of the play. On other plays he would take horrible pursuit angles.

I don't know it it was the Bear's scheme or the Dline playing poorly or what but all the plays in question were simple missed tackles or an inability to get off a block.

What do you guys project Urlacher at this year? I just see much better options to draft as a LB1.

On a side note, Lance Briggs looked very strong again tonight I thought.

I wasn't overly impressed with him last night. Sad to say as a Bears fan and Urlacher IDP owner. I'm hoping he can improve moderately this season... but the d-line has to play better for that to happen, allowing Urlacher to be all over the field more. I think he is now a fantasy LB2 type of guy in FF.

Keep in mind that despite all the changes in Denver, they still have one of the most talented Offensive Lines (and Rick Dennison remained as O-line coach).I was mildly impressed with Anthony Adams and Marcus Harrison for Chicago, but then you see that they rarely got double-teamed as the nose tackle. Urlacher had to fight through offensive linemen blocking him alot. He was still near the play alot, so I remain convinced that he'll have a better year than last year, but they need better play from the nose tackle to command the double team so that Urlacher and Tommie Harris can be more effective.

I have only just started rewatching the game (actually, primarily to see where Afalaya was) and through one series I dont' think Urlacher played as poorly as I initially remembered. He was completely blocked out of the first play (nullified by penalty--Ogunleye nailed the ball carrier in the backfield), but otherwise he seemed to be very near the ball or doing things to disrupt the play elsewhere.

If I get a chance to watch the rest of the game I'll offer a more complete opinion.

I always thought it was just rumor about his block shedding ability but he truly has trouble with just single blocks. Also, his amount of missed tackles on routine plays is also alarming. You would think with his size that he would be very strong at the point of attack too. Maybe they way he looks and the way he plays don't correlate so it makes me think he is just playing really awful.
