offensive tackles to attack (1 Viewer)

with the okung news and playoffs approaching I thought I'd try to get a little discussion started on some soft OT situations for our DE to attack.

I was tracking all this every week for about the first half of the season, but got kind of lazy on it, so I'm probably not up to date.

I'd welcome all observations and analysis.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Seahawks LT Russell Okung is done for the year after tearing his right pectoral in Thursday night's win over the Eagles.

He's facing six months of rehab. Okung will join RG John Moffitt and RT James Carpenter as Seattle's third starting offensive lineman to be lost for the season.

The Seahawks list journeyman G/T Paul McQuistan as their second-team left tackle. A seven-year vet, McQuistan has 18 career starts but just six since 2007.

v STL, @CHI, v SF the next 3 weeks --- are both ends good targets?

The Chargers saw another offensive line starter go to IR this week with LT Marcus McNeill ending his season with a neck injury. LG Kris Dielman is also out for the year with a concussion.

The scramble the Chargers have been forced to do is in full swing. Brandyn Dombrowski has been filling in for McNeill, but he hurt his foot on Sunday. He didn't work all week, and his availability, and how long he would be able to go, isn't clear.

The team signed Jared Gaither, a former starting left tackle with the Ravens who played in 10 games with the Chiefs this year before being released on Tuesday.

It's possible, depending on Dombrowski's, health that Gaither could start despite being so new to the club. Or left guard Tyronne Green could be pushed outside, if he is fit.

@JAX, v BUF, v BAL, @DET the rest of the way -- LT sounds like a good match up -- how was gaither looking in KC?

there are a couple of the more recent developments to get the ball rolling.

Wednesday's Reading the Defense column included a large data dump on the best matchups, including the 4-6 best/worst general OL matchups by team and 6-8 best/worst isolated OT matchups by player.

Subscribers can see the entire list (and the data on tackle matchups, assist/solo considerations, etal) but the best offensive tackle targets right now include Guy Whimper (JAX), Levi Brown (ARI) and Jamaal Brown (WAS). I highlighted Chris Clemons as a priority upside playoff target based on the matchups KAL notes, as well as Andre Carter and Carlos Dunlap (if healthy).
