Offical "I'm Starting M Reece over ________" (1 Viewer)

MJD, DMAC and Trent...ok 1 is on bye and the 2 others are hurt
Reece is a desperation start, but does have good upside and a decent floor. 5 catches, 45 yards. Whatever he gets rushing the ball will be cake.

I'm starting him because I have no other choice. The only other player not on bye (Gordon/Starks) was Vick Ballard.

ETA: MJD owner as well. And Taiwan Jones is still on the wire in a deep 12 teamer. Thank God for beer.

Reece seems a lock to produce double digits points in PPR leagues. He's a fine RB2/flex play in PPR

trying to decide between reece, felix, and Daniel Thomas in a .5 ppr. raiders usually suck on these east coast trips....

Considering him over Brandon Lafell. What are folks expecting from him today in terms of carries? Lets assume he had 4-5 catches for 40 yards, what (if anything) rushing? He has very few rushing attempts in his career.

From the reports, he will be the back in the game when they are in a single back set. That should translate into 10-12 carries, probably in the 40-50 yards range. If he can get into the end zone, he will have a nice 16 point week.

If that is indeed the case, then he is definitely the play over Jones this week, especially in PPR. Hoping for at least 15 touches outta Reece today ... think him and Myers are in for productive PPR games this week

probably not more than six or seven - he should get the goal line work (we always say that, but sometimes there is NO goal line work in a game) and all the passing downs work - good enough for me.

This is insanity, but I'm considering him over R. Mathews and D. Amendola in PPR.

Mathews has a tough matchup @TB, isn't getting redzone carries, and is ceding receptions to R. Brown.

Amendola is coming back from injury and faces SF on grass.

Ugh.

One hesitation on Reece: I looked at BALT D stats and while overall they are near the bottom on fantasy points allowed to RBs, they don't give up much in terms of RB receptions or yards. That said, if Balt gets up big this game could prove to be a statistical outlier.

Would make me more comfortable starting Reece if I felt confident he'd get either a) 10 + carries or b) was going to be the goal line back.

It's not insanity. I have RM as well, and I am sitting him for Reece for the reasons you listed. TB has an EXCELLENT rush defense AND the Chargers are going to the east coast.

You don't think T. Jones? And you do realize that this is the week that Mathews goes off...because we're both benching him.Keep in mind too...OAKLAND is coming east. I'm sure they'll lay an egg, but if in that egg is a Palmer 20/50 with 6 receptions from Reece, good.

usually, smaller running backs don't get goal line work - and you are right about Oakland travelling. Who knows.

Some Reece vs. Jones analysis from CBS' Dave Richards:

There are a zillion questions stuffing my inbox about the Raiders running game now that Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson have matching high ankle sprains. I'm familiar with both Marcel Reece and Taiwan Jones, the two men tasked with replacing both Raiders runners this week. And I can tell you I am decidedly more confident in Reece being a factor in Fantasy than Jones.

Let's start here: Following the two times Mike Goodson left the field last week vs. the Bucs, Reece played 23 snaps while Jones played five. Jones basically gave Reece a little rest in the second half and had one carry for 2 yards where he was thrown to the turf by linebacker Lavonte David. Reece, meanwhile, was much more than just a running back. He lined up everywhere: in the backfield, as an in-line tight end, in the slot and even out wide as a receiver, which is where he was when he caught a touchdown pass from Carson Palmer on a go-route in single coverage. And that wasn't his only end-zone target in the game, as it became increasingly clear to me that Palmer liked throwing to him. And before you go writing off Reece as a poor rusher, you should know that he had a nice run negated by a holding penalty on his offensive line.

I know a lot has been made about both backs contributing this week against the Ravens, and there's no question Jones should see the most snaps of his career on Sunday. But from the very second Goodson went down against the Bucs, Reece was in and he rarely left. The Raiders have a human Swiss Army Knife in Reece and I expect him to be very useful against the Ravens.

some really good info here. sold me. going reece over fragile felix, Daniel Thomas, and sjax

Got him as a FA after Jones was picked up via waivers. Have already started Ballard and won't be changing out Forte or Spiller for him. Next week he faces NO, so should he show his value this week...............................I take a wait and see approach.

13/48 and 7 catches for 56 yards vs Balt, that wasn't that bad...

Next week against NO, we should see similar number.

Might start him over Charles.

I agree. I started him as my RB3 and was very happy with the results. Reece is a rock-solid RB2 in PPR leagues as long as McFadden's out. That's the only question - how long will McFadden be out?

I was dumb enough to swap in Vereen over Reece at the last minute after Reece in the lineup for three days.

I am stupid.

Rotoworld was hinting that McFadden could be back this week but then again they also stated that McFadden was in a walking boot. Meh.

Easy start in a PPR league if McFadden is out.

I agree completely. I'd start him over Rashad Jennings for sure. In the flex he'll go over guys like Jonathan Stewart, McGahee, and maybe Stevie Johnson or Dez Bryant.

With Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson out, it's likely that you're scrambling to find warm bodies to play running back just as much as the Oakland Raiders.

Or even more so, because you probably have a chance at some success this season.

Naturally, your first thought goes to the men who should be taking care of the rock for the Raiders. But is picking one of them up a good idea?

Fantasy Outlook

My medical degree—well, it doesn't exist. However, ankle sprains aren't usually something that stick around too long unless they're high-ankle sprains.

Unfortunately for Oakland, both running backs suffered the high variety, meaning it could be another week or three before either guy is capable of playing.

So let's turn to the two men tasked with holding things down in the backfield.

For the Raiders, things may work out all right.

Taiwan Jones has shown an ability to run the ball in short bursts, but Oakland has not gone to him much against the Baltimore Ravens. He has yet to record a carry as of the halfway mark of the second quarter.

Which means that the Raiders are relying on Marcel Reece to handle everything. He has already demonstrated that he is a capable receiver out of the backfield with 26 catches in the first eight games.

He has also been trusted in the running game, as he has three of the Raiders' five carries thus far. Granted, no Oakland running back will see many carries with how often it is trailing.

Analysis

Jones is a stay-away at this point. It's obvious that he isn't trusted, since he has yet to record a carry and has a single catch.

Reece is a much better option. Especially in a points-per-reception league, he can be a valuable flex play and an acceptable second running back.

fantasy outlook analysis for marcel reece taiwan jones

Think I'm starting him over Alfred Morris.

I keep going back and forth on it, but its a PPR league and Morris is totally invisible in the passing game.

I am leaning towards starting him over Steven Jackson. I guess I want to see SJAX do it two weeks in a row before I trust him back in my lineup.

Starting him in non-PPR over Tampa Mike in the flex. Not optimistic about him getting a TD but I like the high floor in terms of yards.

Also, while I didn't see the game, I just read the game logs and with the exception of the last two series Reece was involved in a meaningful way as either a rusher or a passer.

For a big guy he only got caught in the backfield twice. On the downside his longest run was for 9 yards.

Last week, Mathews was used during the 2 minute drill over Brown, and got 4 RZ touches. Brown still got 3 receptions so in one sense you're right, but the real value killing aspect was neutralized to an extent. The neck injury is the real reason for concern. Maybe they hold him off goalline due to the neck injury? Plausible.

Anyone who doesn't start whatever Raiders or Saints players they have on the roster this week should have his head examined. This contest is a better bet to generate 1,000 yards of total offense than any other NFL game this season.

I'm starting Reece in the flex over Woodhead, Jennings, and LaFell (and Palmer over Flacco) and not thinking twice about it.
