***Offical New York Giants*** (1 Viewer)

It's 24 hours later and it still hasn't sunk in. I've had this stupid grin on my face all day and nothing will take it off. Woke up this morning and stood in line to get my family their hats and T-shirts. "Eighteen and one!" chants with complete strangers at 7AM is a great way to start the day. Hi-5ing complete strangers and getting calls of congrats from friends all over the country is making me realize how important this game really was.

I was 13 for Super Bowl XXI and remember what a great feeling that was. My uncle was a life long Giants fan and his dream was to see the Giants in the Super Bowl. He died a month before that Super Bowl and my Dad would tell me all about the games they went to together at the Yale Bowl and Yankee Stadium. About the great plays and the great players. About how his big brother passed on his love for this great franchise to him and how happy he was that I was becoming a Giants fan.

Simms had the greatest game in Super Bowl History after years of being maligned (My Godfather still can't stand the guy). Bavaro. McConkey first missing a TD by half a yard, then catching the rebound off Bavaro for a score! He looked like a 12 year old kid when he jumped on top of Bavaro after that. Pepper Johnson and William Roberts doing the "Stomp and Grind" on the Super Bowl logo at midfield.

That night was the first time I can remember seeing my dad cry. Tears of joy and pain. So happy his team won, yet realizing the reason he was so happy, wasn't there in the first place.

I was 17 for Super Bowl XXV. There was a lot expected of this team, then Simms got hurt. The defense was solid and the Giants may have been the favorites had Simms played instead of seldom used Jeff Hostetler. I had offers to go to Super Bowl parties at friends houses, but I really wanted to watch the game with my dad and my brothers. We were rewarded with "Wide Right" and it was great to be a Giants fan again!

I'm 34 now, have a family of my own. My Parents came over to watch the game last night, as did my brothers. My wife's family was here too. They are Giants fans just like us, which made it real easy to get married during the Giants bye week in 2000! It was a Sea of Blue in my house when Eli made that drive. My Mom who was quiet through most of the game said Eli "would not be denied this win!" when he broke free from the pile of Patriots. Tyree, Montclair NJ native represent!, made the most unbelieveable catch. the ball stuck to his helmet as Rodney Harrison was trying desperately to knock it loose. The emotion during that last drive was unreal. My kids (6 & 3) were not going to bed...not yet! They would not have been able to sleep anyway with the noise coming out of my living room!

Eli hits Steve Smith for a huge first down to the 13. Then...

We have a pair of Season Tickets that my dad has had since Giants Stadium opened. Between him and my 2 brothers we split the tickets throughout the year. For some reason my youngest brother and I got to go to a few games together this season. We would sit up in Section 318 and talk about the games and strategies and wonder aloud on more than a several dozen occassions, why they never threw the fade to Plax when they were in the Red Zone. He seems to always be matched up in single coverage and is always half a foot taller than the guy covering him.

... Eli drops back and lobs the ball to the left corner of the end zone. The Fade! To Plax! TOUCHDOWN GIANTS!!!!!! Mass hysteria ensues in my TV room. We are jumping up and down! Crying, laughing, hugging. My 3 year old son is in the middle of it all just soaking it all in. My dad is beaming was me and my brothers converge on him for a group hug. A Giants Super Bowl with my family...it Doesn't get any better than this!!!

I get home from the store with my Giants swag this morning before anyone has woken up yet. I go into the kitchen to watch another replay of Sportscenter to make sure I didn't dream it all last night and have some breakfast. My 3 year old son is the first to wake up. He comes into the kitchen rubbing his eyes. "Hey Dad", he says. "Yeah, dude" I answer. He gets this grin across his face, pumps his fist and says "Touchdown, Giants!!" That's my boy! Another generation of Big Blue Fans is born!

I can't get this stupid grin off my face today.

Classy post, sir. But as someone who is NOT a fan of New England, I must disagree with you. The Giants prevailed tonight, but they were not the better team this year. No one was better than the Patriots this year, or have been for a long time. This Patriot team was not the best team ever, but they were in my opinion, the best team in the last 20 years. One game does not change this.
Let me help you out. The Best Team in the NFL each year is decided by a four week, single elimination tournament. All you have to do to be "The Champ" is go undefeated for four weeks against the best competition. The New York Football Giants went 4-0 in the tourney. The Pats went 2-1, say with a bye they went 3-1. 4-0 is better than 3-1.

After 30 hours, it's still just an amazing feeling. I'm starting to appreciate more just how awesome this game was. Watching the final 2 minutes on my TiVo a dozen times today helped. I've had all the talking heads on ESPN on all day, and just imagining how different the coverage would be if the Pats won, well, wow. Wow. :)

Bucky F-ing Dent, Aaron F-ing Boone, David F-ing Tyree.

BTW, I MUST go to a Yankees-Sox game this year.Just for the 18-1 chants.
As a Yankee fan that would make me Completely Cringe...To me it was totally out of line and a ridiculous joke when Boston fans would start Yankee chants at Football events...... There's no place and no reason for anything Patriots at a Yankees game..... Leave that garbage for the Bostonians....

I once posted that Id return every favorite team championship ( Isles, Giants, Mets ) to see the US win the World Cup once before I die.

I can no longer make that statement.

The entire game I was having that feeling of.. when will the Pats work their magic. Then the camera showed the Giants trainer of 60 years on the field and I just knew today was going to be different.

Thanks Coach C, Eli, Strahan,Tyree, Tuck, Plax, Amani big play " its not a toomer", Strahan, and the entire team. Derrick Ward go get your ring baby, you were a huge part of this season. We wont forget it.
You were not born in America, were you?
Yes I was born in Manhattan and I'm an over 40 Islander Met and Giant fan so I've celebrated my share of championships. I dont think any of those celebrations however would be on the same level as an American World Cup Championship. Im so happy and proud of this team though that it would be a tough one to give back.

I basically spent last night watching highlights online in between watching coverage on TV. Over, and over and over.Cant wait to do it again tonight.Going into this game, I fully did not expect a win. Sure, it was possible, but SO unlikely imo. I had hoped it would not be a 55-10 blowout, in part because even before the SB win, this was a magical run and a change of tide in the franchise. I commented to friends how HAPPY I was with two weeks between the Championship game and the SB, because I wanted to enjoy every moment of this season while we still were not officially the non champion. Then, Sunday happened. Suddenly my two weeks will turn into an INTENSE offseason, and then a lifetime of memories. I dont think I have EVER been this PROUD of a franchise... just a group of guys who deserved this 100%

I feel ya Koya. Even though we'd still be proud if it ended differently, You need the Championship or 10 years from now we'd just of forgotten about it like every other superbowl runner up.

Who is watching the festivities? Man I wish I were there!!!

Uh oh, here comes Schumer to make some political points... but even that won't let me get down.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!

I have been....wanted to go down there (I'm in midtown) but it's just mayhem and I do have to work.Seriously, this is absolutely amazing....what this team did, just so improbable at the beginning of the season. This is just awesome.....just fantastic. I love all the props they are giving to Wellington Mara and Bob Tisch....they have to be smiling somewhere.

Awesome. I just watched the parade itself and it was packed. I did not think it would have been possible to try and fight the crowd to get to see the ceremony

If your into buying stocks invest in Scotts Paper Company..have inside trading reports that the company just shipped a few million boxes of tissue paper to the New England states. GIANTS #1...STOMPED THOSE PATS BAD!!!!!

Nice to hear all that made it. In the Carolinas now and just couldnt make the trip.

Wow, just saw a clip of Starhan on the stage, " we stomped you out". ouch.

They're really gonna hate us now.

Now he'll retire and leave the rest of our boys to pay the price

Seriously, wtf was that about? Giants represent class, that was the opposite. I hope coach Coughlin made him do laps around city hall for that one.

I didnt like that either.
Nor did I, but it's typcial Strahan. The guy can be funny and lighthearted, but he also says his share of bombastic stupid things.

Mike and the Mad Dog were slamming him about it....don't usually agree with those two but I did that time. You're right Koya he just sometimes has these brain freezes.....I have to be honest, I was so sick of the guy after last year and his so called hold out.....his divorce.....I was done with him....big part of the team though. No doubt.

Oy, Strahan is getting WORSE. Just made a comment about good thing people (at the meadowlands) are wearing the team colors and not black, because black should only be worn in New England for the Patriots funeral (something to that effect).

:tinfoilhat:

Come on Strahan, get classy here.

I just got back from the Meadowlands, one of the most awesome things I've been a part of . Not at all contrived, it just felt really spontaneous and organic, and fans just sprinting to their seats, I'd guess 40-45000 in the builiding, and it started a half hour early, not sure what they would have had if they started on time. Big cheers for Coughlin who walked in carrying the trophy, too many politicians speaking, but the crowd was absolutely bananas. The giants are rightly bashed at times for having a quiet crowd, a product of having such an old fan base of season ticket holders, going back multiple generations in most cases. More quiet and reserved generally. This was a free admission free for all, really loosely organized, but the true diehards, so even though it was 40,000 plus at best, this was as loud as I ever heard the stadium, people were going crazy. HUGE ovations for Jacobs, Plax, Tuck and a standing O for Tyree with a "Ty-Ree" chant. Eli, Spags, Strahan, Pierce and Toomer also got great pops. Crowd chanted "De-Fense" when spags was announced, "Thank-You-Tom" when Tom was announced, "M-V-P" for Eli and "One-More-Year" for Strahan. Players were much looser than the city hall affair, really had a great time with it and the fans were much more raucous to city hall. Great spontaenous love flowing for this most unlikely championship squad. They closed out with the video on the jumbotron of the "Time of Your Life" video that Coughlin showed them on Saturday night, Bob Papa said it was the first time one of these videos was ever shown to the public. Big cheers for the Webster and McQuarters picks in those vids. Closed out with some guys taking a victory lap around the field and it was a great day. Interesting dynamic developing, not one "18-1" chant or much thought of the Patriots except for

Man, I never want this time to end, this is just so special to be around here now, every one is loving on this team, jerseys are EVERYWHERE, and the players are diggin it too, you can tell. All I need to hear is "Jim Fassell is the New Coach of Redskins" and this will be the best winter ever! With this post, I conclude the blue text portion of my posting, its been a great ride and GO BIG BLUE!

2007 is going to be remembered as a very special year. One more time, Thank you Giants, this run was an amazing gift!

Ps. one final spooky note. They were talking about Wellington Mara today, and how his favorite number was 42. He ended up having 42 grand kids and the Giants come back to win Super Bowl 42 after him dying. If you believe in the afterlife, and you saw this most improbable run, when every bounce went the Giants way, it makes you think.

I hate used to hate Strahan, but this was fun. The entire world has counted them out for over a month and they've kept on fighting, and he's the leader of a D who stood up and that "stomp" and black suits and the whole bit was part of teamwork. I don't mind it one bit personally, but to each their own!

Just a note about the "subdued nature" of Giants fans... remember, those are the Giants fans that have the money/connections/tickets in the family for 3 generations who are able to attend the game. Not an easy ticket to get... a lot of that unbridled manic energy is watching on TV, at friends, at the bar - and if you were in NYC (and probably in many/most suburbs as well where you can see your neighbor) you could not help but see the exhilarated jubilation running through the streets.

Absolutely. The loyalty of the fan base is a beautiful thing, the multiple generation thing, but it does crimp the home field advantage. Jets crowds and tailgates are much more raucous, but there is a VERY big segment of big blue fans with a lot of juice and fever. The parade and pep rally showed that today!

For those with the NFL Channel, tonight (right now on the east coast) and tomorrow at 8:00 then 9:30 they are playing the Giants playoff run.

Tonight is Tampa Bay (on now) and then the Dallas game at 9:30.

Tomorrow is the GB game at 8:00 then the super bowl at 9:30.

As a lifelong Patriots fan,

I tip my hat to the New York Giants.

Congratulations on a well deserved Super Bowl victory.
