Someone is trying to pay me money... Fairly certain it is legit. Glad I picked this up.
Good for you. Be sure to start a new thread the next time the sky starts falling on you.

Came in to say the only thing I've ever gotten certified was a check from a class action lawsuit vs a company i'd worked for. They apparently ended up having to pay me for all of the breaks I took. I only worked there for 2 summers in high school but it was nice to get that check!

I got one of these once. It was a check from my grandmother's estate.Spent it on a bad-### stereo system.

And hookers.

Oh, and blow too.
Grandma would be proud.

Be very careful. Even banks have a difficult time identifying counterfeit checks.

Find out why they are sending you money that wasn't requested. If they ask for you to send them any portion of the money for "your trouble" run like hell!

If you spend any money from a counterfeit check (if you wrote the check or not) you are responsible for the spent funds.

Good luck in pulling a nice "community chest" card in the game of life lol!

I am pretty certain he knows it is a shame.

I suggest you go and pickup your letter, if not, be prepared to have a similar experience that Kramar had on Seinfeld when he refused to accept mail anymore.

When I got audited in 2013 it came straight to my house through regular mail. My wife got the letters and put them to the side without telling me. A day or two later I noticed the envelopes with "Internal Revenue Service" as the return address. I asked my wife why she didn't tell me about these and she said she didn't think they were important.

Yardda, yadda, yadda...$20k later and Stephen A Smith was right.

Pro tip:

Every state has an office of unclaimed funds, you can go online and find out if you are owed any money. Of the people I've mentioned this to, 4 have had money owed to them.

Luckily for me, someone sent me a certified letter alerting me that funds were being sent to the state. I have no clue why they were sent or what it is for, but it feels like winning a small lotto.

I'd recommend everyone checking online to see if they're owed $$$$.

IIRC, here in MA, if a bank account has been dormant for 7 years, I think the banks are supposed to send out the letter like what you got; if no response, they turn the funds over to the state as abandoned.

Happend to me a couple of years ago. Missed the original delivery and saw it was from some law firm in BFE Florida. Turns out I had a relative who lived there and left me a decent chunk of :moneybag: Sometimes certified mail is a good thing, but usually it's not. :bye:

Just put in a claim for $50 from an old apartment from college after looking up TN's unclaimed funds website. Thanks Curse :)

State Department Unclaimed Funds are gold mines... I'd bet at least 20-25% of the FFA is owed money for something on these sites.
