***Official '16-'17 NHL Season Discussion Thread*** (2 Viewers)

I've watched most Oilers games this year.  Talbot has been otherworldly.    Lately not quite as good and the Oilers are in a skid.  As Talbot goes, so go the Oilers.  If he comes back to earth through the rest of the season (after a monster workload so far) they may find themselves in a wildcard race...
True. McDavid gets all the national attention, but it is Talbot that has stolen a lot of games for the Oilers this season. They haven't had a reliable backup, so it has been difficult to give him a rest.

Harvard wins the Beanpot for the first time since 1993. Bruins second-round pick Ryan Donato (son or former Harvard/B's player and current Harvard coach Ted Donato) with a sweet goal.

BC also lost both games in the Beanpot for the first time since .... 1993.

Can we get an updated Rud's rankings?

What happens if all the wild cards come from the same division. Isnt there a rule saying you can not play a team in your division in wc round

no such rule exists.

last year, the Metropolitan and Central Divisions each put 5 teams into the playoffs while the Atlantic and Pacific only put in 3 teams each.

Wild Card team stays in that division bracket for round 2 if they advance.

LA instead of CGY.  thanks broke NHL point system

I have to wonder if there is any compensation coming the Bruins' way, like what happened with Edmonton and Chiarelli. Otherwise, why let them have permission to speak to him? There's no way the Bruins were blindsided by this, despite how funny it would be to many people. He still was under contract.

Too bad they played their last regular-season game Sunday night. So many layers of irony. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Sounds like there were multiple teams asking for permission on Julien. MON decided to move fast.

i read somewhere - thought it was in here, but maybe not - that the Bruins still "owned his rights" so could veto any signing. Seemed off to me that they could fire a guy then still control him but what do I know.

Hopefully we have to throw in Desharnais that would kill 2 birds with one stone.

Well, he should have been ejected immediately and he wasn't. I'd be surprised at 10. Duncan Keith got six games last year for High-sticking Charlie Coyle, which seems like a close comparison.

I personally would have zero issue if guys were done for the season when they intentionally high stick someone in the face. That wont happen until someone loses and eye.
Six games for Nyquist.

Six games for Nyquist.
Kind of what I thought. Wish they wouldn't wait for someone to lose an eye before they clamp down really hard.  No matter what he said about "trying to bring it back so I could cross check him" that was B.S. and pretty obvious IMO that he did what he intended to do - then immediately felt regret.

I did read one funny tweet where the guy said "Imagine if he didn't have a visor". Well, dude, pretty much same thing since he didn't hit the visor.

Tough timing when you compare 6 for that to the minimum of 10 for a little slash on the linesman's leg a day later.

You just have to laugh...

That ended with an offsides call for an extra cherry on top.

But at least Colorado won tonight against the Canes.  Canes should do sprints till they puke, and then do some more for losing to the Avs who were playing on a back2back.

Well, even though it was more of a love tap than anything, you can't touch a ref, so he's lucky he only got 10 games.

Only getting 6 for assaulting someone in the face with your stick is a joke, but that's the NHL for ya.

If the Red Wings were even average on the power play they'd be right there for the playoffs. This is not a bad team, and I'm not sure why they are historically bad on the PP.

The D is pretty bad though, and the goaltending needs to be better. Mantha looks like a budding star.

More than once I've thought the avs purpose on power play was to waste 2/5 min and try to improve their corsi rating.  It surely isn't to score.

This is pretty much the key thing.  Their best guys are 2nd pair defenseman at best.
