"Ow, just, ow" is pretty much the motto for Ecker's Redskins career.Ow. Just, ow.

This is great news. Davis didn't need a holdout after the oversleeping debacle, and the team now has no distractions and everyone reporting from Day 1 at camp. Nice.
Sunday, July 20, 2008Sources: Daniels has ACL injury, Skins consider Taylor trade with DolphinsBy John ClaytonESPN.comRedskins defensive end Phillip Daniels suffered an injury Sunday to his anterior cruciate knee ligament, according to a source, a potentially season-ending injury that could lead to Jason Taylor coming to Washington.Daniels hurt the knee during the team's first practice. He tried to jump over a teammate and came down on his knee. Daniels had to be carted off the field. Preliminary reports from the initial MRI indicated damage to the ACL and possibly more, according to a source.Following the morning practice, the Redskins started working on trade discussions to replace him. According to another source, talks are underway with the Miami Dolphins for Taylor, who started the offseason by asking to go to a contending team. With Daniels likely done for the season and Erasmus James starting camp on the physically unable to perform list recovering from knee problems, defensive end is the thinnest position on the Redskins. The Dolphins asked for a first-round choice for Taylor before the draft while he was competing in the "Dancing With The Stars" show on ABC. It is not know what the Redskins would offer the Dolphins for Taylor. The 35-year-old Daniels is one of the team leaders on defense, and his loss would hurt the team. Demetric Evans is currently behind him on the team's depth chart. The Redskins have not been in aggressive in free agency this season, so they would have no trouble handling Taylor's $8.1 million contract, but they also have the ability rework the deal. After signing all 10 draft choices before the start of camp, the Redskins have more than $9 million of cap room.
The worst. This could be the last of Daniels career. As for Taylor, it goes without saying that he's a nice player, but if the skins give up anything more than a 3rd rounder for him, I'd be pretty annoyed. I really hope that they do not panic and rush into something here.Sunday, July 20, 2008Sources: Daniels has ACL injury, Skins consider Taylor trade with DolphinsBy John ClaytonESPN.comRedskins defensive end Phillip Daniels suffered an injury Sunday to his anterior cruciate knee ligament, according to a source, a potentially season-ending injury that could lead to Jason Taylor coming to Washington.Daniels hurt the knee during the team's first practice. From LaCanfora:agreed, Taylor at MOST, is worth a 3rd rounder. Pretty sure Snyder learned his lesson about getting older players like Bruce, Prime Time, etc...
A Redskins official, who asked not to be identified because of the league's tampering rules, denied an ESPN report that the team is pursuing Miami star DE Jason Taylor, who has been seeking a trade and says he wants to play one more NFL season before exploring Hollywood opportunities.
Posted at 6:41 PM ET, 07/20/2008Skins Trade For Jason TaylorVinny Cerrato just announced the Skins acquired Pro Bowl DE Jason Taylor from Miami for a second round pick in 2009 and a sixth-round pick in 2010.The Skins assume the final two years of Taylor's contract as is, Cerrato said. Taylor has talked about playing just one more season before leaving the NFL for Hollywood, but Cerrato, Washington's executive VP of football operations, said, "I'm 100 percent confident he'll play more than one year.".Cerrato said he began talking to the Dolphins this afternoon, following Washington's second practice. He said immediately after practice that the Redskins had had no contact with other teams about trades as of that point, so, I guess if you take him at his word this deal came together in like 90 minutes.Cerrato said the season-ending injuries to starting left end Phillip Daniels and reserve end Alex Buzbee forced Washington to exhaust all options. He said Taylor will move to the left side with Washington - he played right end in Miami - and Andre Carter will remain the starting right end."We're fortune there is a guy of that caliber on the market when a guy gets hurt," said Cerrato.Taylor is a former NFL player of the year who brings elite pass rushing skills, something sorely missing on this line for years (though Carter had a strong season in 2007). Defensive line has long been an area of concern for Washington.Posted by Jason La Canfora

Update to this link, Buzbee getting carted off the field. Apparent ankle injury.

Washington TimesAlex Buzbee, who was promoted from the practice squad to the roster as an undrafted rookie from Georgetown last December, was also lost for the season on Sunday when he ruptured his right Achilles' tendon
And of course Smoot sprained an ankle today, and Zorn is hoping he'll be back in a week.Carlos Rogers was able to take part in some limited individual drills, and kept his helmet on for much of the two-hour practice, but is being watched very closely. He is itching to return ASAP, but is coming off major injuries to his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Any sort of setback could be extremely costly.Zorn said the trainers are working with Rogers to keep him from pushing too hard. His type of injury is generally a year-long one, and Rogers underwent surgery in November. In the meantime, Shawn Springs and Fred Smoot were with the first-team, and Leigh Torrence had a strong showing as the third corner.
I did notice Colt Brennan. I noticed that he throws a bit side-armed and his balls didn’t have the zip of other quarterbacks.
Balls with no zip.Not sure what Cerrato was thinking, but that's a pretty foolish statement to make, IMO.![]()

Why do you say that? I would bet money that Cerrato, or someone else in the organization, has talked with Taylor and he has said that he would play more than 1 season. I have been convinced all along that the 1 year statement was just a tool by Taylor to help him get out of Miami. I hate to see the skins get him. What Jason Taylor, or anybody representing him, says doesn't matter one lick. This is the NFL. Players come and go (and sometimes they decide to come again). A 100% guarantee that Taylor will play this year, let alone next, is pushing it. Just ask Phillip Daniels.I'm not saying he can't and I'm not saying he won't. Maybe Cerrato is just being pie in the sky to make sure more people view the trade favorably. But 100% guarantees in the NFL are worth far less than the paper it takes to print them on. I disagree. If Vinny wasn't convinced that JTaylor is going to play at least 2 more years, he wouldn't have made the statement, let alone the trade. So you are saying the he shouldn't say that because Taylor might get injured? And what does it matter if he is the guy that negotiates contracts since they are not changing Taylor's contract and he is signed for 2 more years? Seems like a little negativity to me. Why would Taylor lie to them if he wants to retire? Why not just retire now? Has this all just been some big scheme put together by Taylor and Parcells to get some draft picks for the Dolphins? As a Cowboy fan I hope so but I think it is far more likely that Cerrato is correct. What Jason Taylor, or anybody representing him, says doesn't matter one lick. This is the NFL. With the direction the team has taken this year it makes no sense to sign Taylor if they think he is going to be here one year only. They have to know they will get him for at least two years.I agree it makes no sense and I have no doubt that everyone involved would like Taylor to play out his contract. But a 100% guarantee of anything happening in 2009 is a ridiculous statement. You won't convince me otherwise.A year ago every one of us would have guaranteed that Gibbs would have completed his contract, because he was saying he would. After everything that went on last year I would think more 'Skins fans would be aware that one season is a near eternity in the NFL, and a lot will happen between now and week 1 of 2009*. the price tag seems fair. after all, we spend 2nd round picks on border line TE prospects when we have an all-pro manning the position already...Bizkiteer said:Good move IMO. Fred Davis is more than borderline, though your point is otherwise valid. I'm warming to the move, but I've still got concerns about Taylor's suitability to the left side of the line, which is usually where the big DE's play.the price tag seems fair. after all, we spend 2nd round picks on border line TE prospects when we have an all-pro manning the position already...Bizkiteer said:Good move IMO. I recall reading in several places after the draft (sorry-no links) that Sleepy Davis was a reach. He could be the next John Mackey, but when so-called experts say he won't amount to anything, I'd call it borderline. Meanwhile, JTaylor is younger than the man he'll replace. I am normally the first to berate the team for its poor player acquisitions since little danny took over, but this one is a solid move.Fred Davis is more than borderline, though your point is otherwise valid. I think we got good value, but would be jumping and hitting the ceiling if it had been a 3rd rounder. The issue with Davis is not his talent, it's his focus/drive. That's why that oversleeping thing was particularly galling. What? You don't miss hearing "he played his guts out" in every post game presser?I like Zorn. He's handled his public speaking role better with repetition - that first press conference when he was hired was awkward, but now his enthusiasm and openness are refreshing after four years of Gibbs playing everything so close to the vest and using the same old cliches ("super smart" :X ).

I agree, it is worisome and hope that it is not a sign of things to come. He's got talent, it's the drive that is surely questionable. The issue with Davis is not his talent, it's his focus/drive. I won't think that there's an issue with his focus or drive until we're at least several weeks into training camp and we start hearing it from "unnamed sources" within the Redskins. The oversleeping thing is overblown. The issue with Davis is not his talent, it's his focus/drive. That's why that oversleeping thing was particularly galling. But he's got all the talent that, for example, Cooley has if he puts it all together.
It seems like, in that analysis, a lot depended on the QB the first-year coach had. So that's pretty much what we generally think about this year's Redskins --- a lot will depend on Jason Campbell.I thought that this was an interesting approach to expectations during Zorn's first year, though I don't agree with all of his conclusions.
