**Official** 2009 Dallas Cowboys Thread (1 Viewer)

Wow you guys listen to much to ESPN. So what if Dallas had a higher grade on Brewster? You realize these same scouts had one of the BEST drafts in the NFL last year. I will defer to thier expertise instead of panicking because scouts inc doesnt have Brewster rated as high as R. Johnson. Answer this would you be comfortable with a starting S tandem of Hamlin and Watkins or starting OT tandem of Columbo and Free assuming an injury took place. Its painfully obvious to me that OT is a position of need; IMO its the biggest need especially when you consider 6 games are against NFC d-lines that feature, Haynesworth, Orakpo, Osi, Tuck, Kiwi, Cole, etc.
That's true but Brewster doesn't project as a tackle
Brewster also played in a spread offense. If he's going to shift inside to guard, that means that you've got a former college OT who was a pass blocking specialist moving to OG on a team that favors power running.

From one of the Cowboys scouts regarding Brewster, currently being interviewed.

Played in a pro style offense at RT for Ball State. Never missed a game, 45-47 games played. Versatile enough to play guard. Athletic. Plays with alot of heart.
This is not encouraging. This is the same shtick the Raiders are using to justify DHB.

Feel free to disagree, but a "spread offense" is not a "pro style offense".

I don't even know where to start. Maybe you could address the notion that Brewster is projected more as an interior guard rather than a tackle.

I realize its semantics but didnt the Pats run a spread offense?

Hmm lets see outside of our starting 5 OL I only have one guy Holland that I would be comfortable with playing. Obviously drafting someone who could play both tackle and guard would be helpful.

I guess I'm confused. Did the Patriots draft him? And no, while the Pats run an offense that's about as close to that as it comes in the NFL to a college spread offense, I don't believe that they split their OL's out as wide as to the college spread offenses, which are much more wide open and, for lack of a better term, experimental.

T BellWell, me providing some evidence that I liked the guy seemed reasonable. It wasn't about chest thumping and "LOOK AT ME". Most know that I'm not like that.As I am sure you know draft risers are sometimes hard to project round. Since it was the first pick of the fourth. I missed by about 25 picks. Sorry about that :tinfoilhat: Yes he is raw, but you can't coach talent. I think he will play inside and likely in the nickel. Will be a great blitzer on third downs.
You're right about the context of your prediction, and I agree you're not a braggart. It's why I like you and enjoy our discussions/debates. (And BTW I'm not chest thumping about the Redskins' Barnes pick - it looks to me like he was taken too early, and that they could have gotten a decent OL here instead.) Still, you predicted a pick of this guy you liked a round later. It's not because you were picking out of a hat, it's because that's about where a team liking him could reasonably have nabbed him. The Cowboys chose him a round early. With 12 picks today, that's not necessarily a disaster, but . . .The Cowboys have now chosen two guys who were relatively unheralded players who "rose up the draft boards" during the Combine and workout phase, which to me is always a worrisome thing that suggests a fixation on measurables rather than football ability. Both guys were also chosen earlier than it seems they safely could have been chosen. Again, I'm reserving judgment about the draft overall, but that's my impression of these two picks.
Again, I had him with the first pick of the 4th. If it was the last pick in the third, would I have more credibility? Doesn't compute for me. I know New England and SD were also all over Williams. He needs work which I'll fully admit, but will play nickel, ST and be a good character player. It's a great pick. The second one....I don't have much of an opinion.

McBath was taken in the second round.

I just want to see them come away with a safety who has a chance to make the team.

Would love to see them grab Cosby late, even though I dont think we need another WR, I love Cosby.

Here's a day 2 list ... don't agree with all of it but it's reasonably close to most out there. While the guys we got are decent I'm sure ... I think we could have gotten them later and used these 3rd's on OTHER players and if someone else reached so be it ... go get Meredith or Duke or Sidbury etc.

1. Michael Johnson, DE, Georgia Tech

2. Shawn Nelson, TE, Southern Miss

3. Rashad Johnson, S, Alabama

4. Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina

5. Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina

6. Cornelius Ingram, TE, Florida

7. Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma

8. Jarron Gilbert, DT, San Jose St.

12. Troy Kropog, OT, Tulane

13. Alex Magee, DT, Purdue

36. Mike Wallace, WR, Ole Miss

Do you think we can call for a do over? Sucks seeing everyone else in our division getting better while we stand still.
I thought you had enough and had left to go kill yourself or something?
Too hungover to go outside and would get laughed at on the streets on NYC. My boys have already asked if I ordered my Brewster jersey.
Ya gotta love draft day. It's were most casual fans pretend to "know" stuff, when they have NO freaking clue.

From watching Wade Phillips on the War room cam- he has been putting a pretty dent into the buffet the Cowboys brass brought in. Hey Wade, draft some veggies and a protein shake.

Why all the whining in this thread? An LB and OL are both positions of need. Thank God we did not waste a pick on a WR with either of these picks. On to round 4 picks. Grab some tissue and catch your breath. LOL.

OK.....I want:

Duke Robinson

Lawrence Sidbury

Chip Vaughn

Edit-Darkhorse....WR Murphy (Florida)

Damn, I was afraid I missed one.

Gonna assume that's directed at me and instead of starting an I-fight I'll be the bigger man. I've been a huge Cowboys fan since around 1985 and understand football. They have been horrible this weekend.

Ask yourselves this question (and yes, they're only 25% through their day 2 picks, but it's still the top 25% in terms of the pick value/round):

Does this draft so far remind you more of the drafts of the last five years, or the nine or so drafts that fell between Jimmy Johnson's departure and Bill Parcells' arrival?

I don't hate it, but don't love it either.

BIOGRAPHY: Three-year starter who struggled through an injury-plagued senior campaign and finished the season throwing for 65.9%/586/2/2. Junior totals included 58%/2311/12/8, when he also added 899-yards rushing.

POSITIVES: Athletic signal caller with a good head for the position. Patient in the pocket, buys time for receivers, and effectively identifies the open pass catcher. Remains poised as the pocket collapses around him, senses pressure, and steps up to avoid it. Stands in and takes a hit in order to get the throw away. Zips the outs, and nicely hits receivers as they are leaving their breaks. Possesses a sense of timing, displays good overall awareness, and has above-average arm strength.

NEGATIVES: Played primarily in a run option system until his senior season. Tends to spray passes around the field. Stands to improve his overall throwing fundamentals.

ANALYSIS: McGee is a prospect with a good amount of upside potential, and his best playing days are ahead of him. He possesses the size and arm strength to make an NFL roster, yet he needs to complete his game and improve his mechanics.

PROJECTION: Fourth Round

#101. Stephen McGee QB
So what do we do with a QB that Franchione brought in to run the option?
:) Gotta love being laughed at by Raiders fans. They just texted me "Thank god you took the fastest QB before we could". I've seen this kid play quite a bit and he is awful. I honestly hate being this down on the team but this is the worst draft I have ever seen.
Franchione made him look awful but he's one of the more promising QB prospects in this draft.

Well, I knew they were going to take a QB but didn't think it would be quite this early. I was thinking 5th round.

So let's go ahead and get Sidbury and a safety here at #110 and #117, in either order.

One real good thing about McGee is he is a big time student of the game. I used to go hangout with most of the A&M players and you rarely saw Stephen because they said he usually picked staying in and studying game film than going out partying.
