I got a text a few hours ago saying that they 'were seriously discussing' bringing in Ward so they can kick the tires. Apparently Ward gave the NYG an offer of 3 mil per for him to stay and they turned him down.
LOL, as soon as I post this Ward signs with the Bucs. Guess the #### or get off the pot mantra is in full effect for the Birds here.I got a text a few hours ago saying that they 'were seriously discussing' bringing in Ward so they can kick the tires. Would give us a great backup punt returner thoughThe radio was talking of a sean considine clone from baltimore being a possible safety to visit. Jim Leonard (sp) They said he is 5'8", 185lbs...this is just who you want to come up and tackle brandon jacobs

Jim Leonhard, and he's much, much, MUCH better than Sean Considine.Of course, so is my left sock. The radio was talking of a sean considine clone from baltimore being a possible safety to visit. You read all of that and boil it down to a McNabb argument?Brutal.Way to take the high road.Nice cheap shot. whats wrong, you cant take it when someone disagrees with you openly? I've backed up virtually everything i've said. You may not agree with my reasoning or my view, but its nice to know that a Mod has to sink to the level of taking cheap shots at people. Because when people run out of real arguments and thoughts, they invariably turn to cheap shotsWell, at least you have Buddy Knuckles for support. That'll show me.![]()
You fan the flames every chance you get in here, guy.Take solace that an admin shares your viewpoint.By the way, no one has been more openly against your view (and most others, including Woodrow) on the Dawkins move than me - with consistent and repeated arguments - but hey, if it makes you feel better to say I'm giving you a cheap shot - enjoy. As for running out of real arguments, that's a hilarious statement from you. People consistently tell you that you're two-faced and play both sides of the Eagles (see Donovan sucks vs. I love this team) but the rest of us have to counter your arguments? No thanks. Those of us know how to characterize your thoughts on "your team".
And you can't love the Eagles and dislike McNabb? You're way off on this one and just have a general dislike for people who criticize McNabb. You should tone it down.
DH, what are you hearing is our "plan" exactly? Are we openly going into rebuilding mode? Looks like Tra might be headed to Jax and we are yet to see McNabb's reaction after losing a ton of players and bringing in no one except a hurt Tackle.LOL, as soon as I post this Ward signs with the Bucs. I can't believe Sean Jones isn't headed to Philly right this minute.I'm very surprised he's got no attention yet.All I know is that I wouldn't want to be the guy who replaces Dawkins in this town. Whether it's Leonard or someone else, it's a no win situation unless the guy comes in and dominates. A mediocre, stop gap type like Leonard is ripe to get roasted.
I'm just picturing the in-game flame wars that would occur if the Eagles picked up Braylon Edwards and McNabb throws one down around Edwards knees that he drops. "Braylon sucks, he couldn't catch a cold" "Mcnabb sucks, that ball was way too low"I'll ask when I speak to him.As for Braylon, I just think it's a case that no one really believes he'll be moved. I think any one of us would be tickled to have him.Why no interest in Braylon? I think he does have an issue with drops, but he could be had for cheaper than Boldin. Also, the last great WR that we had in this town (TO), has led the league in drops multiple years.DH, I know you said that they are looking at filling the S position in FA, but I really like the kid Chung out of Oregon. Any interest?
Like I said, my buddy is more 'in' on the drafting side of things, but I cann tell you that this offseason is NOT going well. They targeted Andrews and got him. They planned on Dawk signing their lowball offer, but he didn't. They planned on Derick Ward after he got a dose of reality and came down off that absurd 5 mil per year price tag, but they waited too long. They planned to squeeze every penny out of Tra, and that looks like it will bite them now too. The Tra situation is really unsetteling since they don't have a LT on their roster that they can be confident in starting. Also, they never had more than a passing interest in Housh. As far as my buddy knows, they never even contacted him, all contact came from Housh's camp.Unless things drastically change, I see a 3rd place finish for the Birds in the East, at best.DH, what are you hearing is our "plan" exactly? Letting Tra Thomas go will really bum me out. Assuming that happens, OT and RB become the unquestionable draft priorities if they weren't already.Like I said, my buddy is more 'in' on the drafting side of things, but I cann tell you that this offseason is NOT going well. He has to be cut first...What are the chances Eagles give Roy Williams a lowball offer and he fills the BDawk role?
What are the chances Eagles give Roy Williams a lowball offer and he fills the BDawk role?
Heck no. Roy Williams is HORRENDOUS in coverage, to the point of being such a liability the Cowboys couldn't scheme the liability away against any versatile offensive opponent. B-Dawk is masterful in coverage. Even if you want to replace B-Dawk with a younger, lesser version, it can't be a formerly overpriced guy who quite literally is one dimensional.Two-dimensional if you count horse-collar tacklingWhat are the chances Eagles give Roy Williams a lowball offer and he fills the BDawk role?Heck no. Isn't he also injury-prone, making him three-dimensional, two of which are bad?Two-dimensional if you count horse-collar tacklingWhat are the chances Eagles give Roy Williams a lowball offer and he fills the BDawk role?Heck no. Hey look at it this way - They will have to make two trades this season to bail on the 1st round and save the signing bonuses that come with that. But then again - I'm sure guys that were there last season like Otah, Chris Johnson, Keller or Matt Forte wouldn't have been able to crack our lineup anyway.Gotta stay under the cap ya know. All these years of staying under the cap have paid off...../facepalmNOT a good offseason whatsoever. One of the worst ones in a long time

We say this about every off-season other than when we get TO.Regardless, this one is still young so there is plenty of hope imo.Gotta stay under the cap ya know. All these years of staying under the cap have paid off...../facepalmNOT a good offseason whatsoever. One of the worst ones in a long time
Jason Witten disagrees. In fact, I can't remember Dawkins ever being that great at covering a guy one on one. He used to have damn good ball hawking skills - but 1 on 1, not so much. What are the chances Eagles give Roy Williams a lowball offer and he fills the BDawk role?Heck no. I should have said WAS masterful in coverage. But Dawkins has always been a true two-way safety, hence the 6 PBs and potential HOF credentials. Roy Williams was always a thumper, but no one thought he would be so bad in coverage that the Cowboys would literally have to never allow him to be put in a coverage situation.Jason Witten disagrees. I'll agree that there is no comparison between the two - even at this point in their careers. Fat Andy and Alligator Arms Banner are on Spring Break this week and won't be starting free agency until next Monday when they are back in the office. :(Buddy Ball 2K3 said:DH has there been any talk about them bring in Jermaine Phillips from Tampa?

:scratcheshead:Washington Post is reporting he's likely to land in HoustonI hate the idea. Why ditch Dawk if you are gonna sign an old ####er anyways?Looks like Shawn Springs will be stepping in to replace Dawkins. Not sure what to think, but I don't hate the idea.
There are still a few top safeties and a sleeper or two that remain unsigned. Scout.com takes a look at some of the safeties that should receive plenty of attention over the coming days and weeks in free agency.
The safety market in free agency is dwindling.
With names like Brian Dawkins, Will Allen, James Sanders, Renaldo Hill, Chris Crocker, Sean Considine, and Jim Leonhard off the market, the safety possibly with the best value and upside might be Josh Bullocks.
The former second-round pick of the New Orleans Saints out of the 2005 draft has 49 starts in his four years of play. At 6'1", 210, Bullocks ran a 4.4 forty at the NFL Combine after leaving The University of Nebraska a year early.
Bullocks was not drafted by current head coach Sean Payton, who brought veteran Kevin Kaesviharn. When Bullocks injured his knee in 2007, Kaesviharn took over at free safety and Payton stayed with Kaesviharn until Bullocks worked his way back into the lineup the last four games of the 2008 season. Expect the Chicago Bears, Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Cleveland Browns to be suitors for Bullocks' services.
Others that should to start to receive serious interest are Sean Jones and Jermaine Phillips. Both are listed higher on Scout.com's free agent safety rankings, but will likely cost teams more money than Bullocks.
Jones has terrific size and at times can be an imposing force against opposing offenses. Phillips is known as one of the better in-the-box safeties in the league.

This post seemingly got lost in the emotional posts of FA's failures and Dawk's departure but it poses an issue that needs to be addressed. Since DH's source supposedly is in the draft side of things, let's have an answer on why the Eagles poorly evaluated these players? All could have filled a void that currently exists. Why trade the pick when such value, and one might say Pro Bowl value considering the players mentioned, are still available? For a team that prides itself on draft pick acquisition, they come up awfully small when it comes to actually making the picks. If we're going to play the Monday Morning QB thing, how about you check in with your draft guy and tell us why they passed on such quality talent last year?Carolina overpaid. Reid woulda taken Otah. They turned Otah into DeSean, Booker, and 1.28 this yearSince DH's source supposedly is in the draft side of things, let's have an answer on why did the Eagles poorly evaluated these players? You can bash AR's drafts if you'd like, but that was one specific move that would be practically criminal to bash. Booker didn't work, but SeSean was a hit, and we still have this year's first.but IIRC their 2nds and 3rds have been really bad the last few years. Tony Hunt? Really???Carolina overpaid. JIf the Springs deal rumored on ESPN pans out, not sure he's the opening day safety filling the hole left by Dawkins.
Samuel, Brown, Hanson,Springs....if Jake Ike is healthy....have to see how this plays out. Maybe some others have a better idea than me how realistic it is for Springs to play S. I know he's 6'0, 200+ and (obviously) has cover skills, but can he make that move?

Springs scheduled to visit Philly

Springs
The Eagles just announced that Shawn Springs is headed to town tonight for a visit and will meet with reporters Wednesday. Springs became expendable in Washington when DeAngelo Hall was signed to a long-term contract Friday.
You normally don't issue a press release when you're not planning to sign a player. Springs is a physical cornerback who could also help out at safety now that Brian Dawkins has left the building.
There was some initial interest from Dallas in Springs, but it looks like he'll end up in Philly. It's interesting to see guys such as Chris Canty and Springs stay in the division. We'll let you know if we hear anything else.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsi...redskinsinsiderpeople report visits all the time. Did we sign Ward? He visited...ason La Canfora reports that Springs, released Friday in a cap-savings move, is in Philadelphia meeting with the Eagles. He also visited New England on his free-agent tour and Houston and New Orleans are options as well, a league source said.
I think otherwise. Hunt is a bad example. They needed a RB. He was their 3rd or 4th choice. Granted their first choice hasn't turned out any better - Booker. The last 3 years have actually been very good drafts compared to the previous years under this regime. Other than 2002 no drafts stand out as great drafts. They get a lot of credit for 2002 - Lito, Lewis, Sheldon, Westbrook - building a secondary when they already had an elite but aging secondary.2008 - Laws - B at least a good 3rd DT, maybe moreDeSean - A- playmaker WR, will his body hold up over multiple yearsSmith - INC project DE, weird choice2007 - Kolb - D+ questionable pick that has underperformedAbiamiri - B- solid pick slowed by injuryBradley - A great pickHunt - F wasted pick2006Justice - D- great value turned into huge bustGocong - B project LB turned into solid starter(Bunkley in the first is at least a B+)but IIRC their 2nds and 3rds have been really bad the last few years. An A for Stewart Bradley? The Eagles really don't care about their lbs and Bradley is average at best.I think otherwise. Hunt is a bad example. They needed a RB. He was their 3rd or 4th choice. He is not a pro bowler but he is solid. He was a marked improvement over all the LBs that were on the team at that point. The improved LB play is a big reason the defense was better in 08 than 07. Maybe he is not a better pick than DeSean but he is a better pick than depth picks like Abiamiri and Laws (who are both solid players). Is he that much better or worse than Poslunszy who some mocks had the Eagles spending a 1st rounder on and went 50 picks earlier? An A for Stewart Bradley?
