I have to think if Jerry ever really steps aside and lets someone else run the show it's now or never.

If he brings in another puppet coach we will all patiently await Jerry's death.

I also strongly feel that his sons forced his hands on this and are ready to really bring someone in to do the football operations. They are the ones that have to worry about going out the way Tom Hicks did down the line.

Jerry put every last dime of his own money in to the stadium. If the revenues can't sustain the operations out there the value of the franchise will go in the red. He also has followed in the Tex mentality of keeping a large amount of seats available for single ticket purchase, rather than allowing any seat anywhere to go to a season ticket. He's bolstered by the PSL numbers, but there are lots of rumors out there that the PSLs did not really sell that well. I know lots of people that were able to go year to year in PSL sections without one. That's not a good sign.

All this leads me to think that he steps down, and turns this thing over for good. He has a business and a legacy to run here.

Spears is out 4-6 weeks according to ESPN. Hatcher is out another 2 weeks. Lissimore is unknown with an ankle. That means there are 4 healthy DL: Ratliff, Igor, Bowen, and Brent. Those of you who want Ratliff at DE will likely get your chance to see it.

Cowboys fans stayed away in droves in the late 80's when the Cowboys struggled before Jimmy Johnson turned them around.

I know my brother went to the last game of the 1988 season vs. the Eagles and there were only about 20,000 fans in the stadium. The tickets could have been sold, but no one showed up. The Cowboys were 3-13 that season. While everyone has traditionally supported the Cowboys, Jerry Jones has raised the cost of the game experience and any sort of prolonged ineptitude by the Cowboys may quickly cause people to stop coming to games.

I have been a Garrett hater for three years now but I am a little cautiously optimistic and kind of excited to see what he can do and to see if this helps. I did like his press conference and it got me a little enthusiastic. I hope he is at least given a fair shake...the schedule coming up is pretty brutal. Considering that this is the worst team in football, every game is brutal I guess.

Jerry is the problem with this team though and as long as he is in control, this team will not reach its ultimate goal. My one fear is that Jerry will give Garrett the head coaching job because there wont be any friction from him about personnel moves, team management, etc.

I heard a really interesting interview with Matt Mosley from ESPN on the SVP show today. He said that despite the Cowboys success during the Parcell's era, that Jerry was really unhappy because he wasnt "running the show." Mosley said there were honestly times where Jerry would go into Wade's office and tell him what he saw and what he thought the defense should be doing. Really? Wade Phillips is well regarded as a defensive mastermind and this ###### Jerry Jones is telling him what he should have done? Wow. Perfect perspective on why the Cowboys are now the worst team in football. We have one of the worst GM's in football, if not the worst now that Millen is in the booth.

Well he is not the last person I would want but he is not in the top 50 either. He will be gone after the season is over. The players not only quit on Wade but Garrett as well. This can work with Jerry he just needs to find the right fit. A coach that gets the respect of the players. Brian Billick or Gruden, a coach that has won it all. They need that in that locker room along with an offensive line upgrade.

Not exactly what I was saying but hey, how much worse could he be. I have been bashing his playcalling for two seasons but I really want to see what he can do as the head man on this team. He was handpicked by Jerry and I think he will have more leadway than Phillips did because Jerry WANTS Garrett to be the man so he can say he was right all along. Will it work? I am pretty skeptical but I think it is a good start. Garrett is a lot different than Wade and Pasquiloni is DAMN SURE different than Wade. I think this will be a real spark. I think he needs to make a statement just as much as Garrett does and I think he will. First good start would be to bench Scandrick and Jenkins. I wouldnt even let Jenkins suit up. If he wants to pout or ask why, show him the friggin clip of him moving out of the way on that touchdown or the countless PI penalties. I am just trying to find some hope here. This season has been a miserable experience and it really seems like Jerry took this one really personally.

Wade was clearly spent and had nothing to offer. He admitted as much and his body language for the last several weeks was one of total defeat. He had to go, and IMHO it was bad enough where he had to go despite not having someone in a great position to take over.

It was a message to the entire team. Don't read too much into defense minded coach and promoting the offensive coordinator. It was just so bad in Dallas, that he couldn't bare to watch it anymore, it was just too ridiculous. The team quit, you have to blame the coach. Dallas had a poor record early on but they were competitive in ball games, they were in ball games that they should have won. As soon as Tony Romo got hurt, it was over. I've never seen a team quit so fast on a season in my life. That's a bad sign, not the kind of team I like to root for to be honest. That's probably why they've underachieved these last few years, they don't have it wear it counts, in their heart.

They have to figure out who to get rid of and who to keep. I guess that process won't start until they figure out who their next head coach is going to be.

1) I think with the coaching change that Romo is much more likely to return to play this year. Without the change I suspect he would not have returned this year.

2) I am on the fence with Jason Garrett....I love what I see so far but its going to be VERY hard to eveluate him without Romo for most of the rest of the season.

Gruden is the best fit outside of Garrett imo. Romo reminds me of Rich Gannon and look what Gruden did with Gannon and 2 good receivers (The aging duo of Brown and Rice). He is also a disciplinarian who wont put up with crap.

3) I hope who ever the new coach is brings back the 4-3. When I think Dallas defense-I think 4-3 NOT the vanilla 3-4 that does nothing special. Lets focus on stripping the ball, speed and gang tackling while flying to the ball.

4) The new team's identity has to be built around the offense NOT the defense. What kind of team do we want to be? I hope it's built on a big bad mean O-line who wants to kick the shiate out of a defense for 60 mins. How many first rounders have been on the defense? Newman/Ware/Spencer/Jenkins/Spears

5) Here is the core that needs to built around:

Austin/Dez/Ware/Free/Rat/Romo/Jenkins (Yeah I said Jenkins-despite the poster play of no attempt to tackle) Choice/Felix Bennett and Spencer. The rest are all on the fence or tradeable assets and need to prove themselves if they want to continue with the club.

6) If I am Jerry at the draft I am looking to do the following:

-Move my top 8 pick and slide down to pick up more early picks

-I am shopping both Newman and Witten

-I am looking for O-lineman and corners first and foremost

-Big school players with a history of good play. NO more projects (J Williams/Brewster type of picks)

7) Pink slips to folowing players:

-Scandrick (You cant cover period)

-Roy (although I would try to re-sign him after cutting him)

-Barber (It's over)

-Davis (You lost your temporary "fire" and you got lazy again)

-Brooking (Shady Acres is calling)

-Ball (You suck period)

Agree with everything said here.Why hasn't Ogletree been involved at all? All that hype all off season and not a glance of the guy.I do disagree with one thing. I don't think Barber's struggles are all Barber. He gets hit in the backfield a lot. Not much of an opportunity to succeed with that offensive line. Really want to see Dallas make some moves to bolster this offensive line. I am all for moving back to a 4-3 if the current personnel can support it.

A lot to like tonight from the Boys' perspective. But one thing that I really didnt like was the ridiculously conservative play calling at the end of the half and about half way through the 4th quarter prior to the missed FG.

At the end of the half, they just threw away chances to get points. Flushed it down the drain. I know you don't want to repeat the Redskins fiasco, but come on. Several runs? No no-huddle? ARGH!

Then after the Manning fumble, Dallas had the chance to put the game away. Did we try to get a TD? Nope. 3 straight runs and kick the FG. Or miss the FG actually. And even if it was made, it was still a 2 posession game. Come on Jason. Go for the throat. Put the game away.

Anyway, it was refreshing to get a win. Can complain about that!

I agree with everything you wrote, and I'll add one more.So Barber violates team rules, and doesn't get his ceremonial first carry. I think it was weak, but it was some sort of discipline. I get that it was just intended to be him not getting the "start" but put him in his usual role. What I don't understand is how you then, after Felix breaks off a 10 yard carry, put Barber in and have him run three times in a row and PUNT. That's stupid.It's like what happened last week - Barber 3 carries, 9 yards punt.This week - Jones 1 carry 10 yards first down, pull him. If I'm not mistaken, Barber had those 3 plays early. But then saw the bench for most of the game until close out time. His snaps were well down yesterday.

I agree with everything you wrote, and I'll add one more.So Barber violates team rules, and doesn't get his ceremonial first carry. I think it was weak, but it was some sort of discipline. I get that it was just intended to be him not getting the "start" but put him in his usual role. What I don't understand is how you then, after Felix breaks off a 10 yard carry, put Barber in and have him run three times in a row and PUNT. That's stupid.

It's like what happened last week - Barber 3 carries, 9 yards punt.

This week - Jones 1 carry 10 yards first down, pull him. Barber 3 carries, 9 yards punt.

I thought Barber's role was due to Phillips inordinate loyalty to veteran players, but I guess I was wrong. Until Garrett is going to seriously come down on the underperformers, I don't see long term success for the Cowboys.

If I'm not mistaken, Barber had those 3 plays early. But then saw the bench for most of the game until close out time. His snaps were well down yesterday.

That's my point. Why give him three carries in a row that result in a punt continuously. Frankly, the guy should nit see a carry until the 4th quarter. Continuing to trot him out there to kill the opening drive is like giving the opponent an extra drive intentionally. It's just stupid.I'm not even saying they should run Felix on those plays.. In saying doing almost ANYTHING else would be better. Stop giving Barber those carries, period.

I would not trust them. They didnt really pressure the passer last night. The starting corners have to be questionable given injuries last game. They did stop the run better, I'll give them that. That probably stays fixed from here out. But Megatron has the ability to do what Nicks did to them yesterday and more.

True, but the Lions haven't won a road game in about 4 years. Would I take Dallas minus a bunch of points, of course not but Detroit won't win in Dallas. This is a big game for draft picks for next year though.

Still didnt love the playcalling at all.

I have defended MBIII to the death but I was wrong. This guy is done. Stick a fork in him. Every time Felix got the ball he made something happen. MBIII is just done. I wish they would rotate Choice in there in MBIII's place just to see what they have there. MBIII has done nothing and was the weak link on the offense this weekend.

Felix actually needs more touches. 20 bare minimum every game. At least Garrett gave Felix the start. We'll see next week if it was permanent.

This offense needs to revolve around Felix, especially with Romo out. I'd love them to feature Felix the rest of the way. Their OL is a problem, but if he gets enough touches, Felix could be a nice RB2 down the stretch for FF teams.

I thought 2010 would be Felix' year, but looks like I was a season too early. I believe he'll be a monster in 2011.

I was saying that about last year, two years ago. I'll believe it when I see it. There are some flaws in Felix's game that weren't there last season. I dunno if it's coaching, or something else, but he rarely puts a move on anymore. Do they tell him to just run N-S? Is it playcalling?He was tearing it up early, something like 29 yards came on his first three carries. Then suddenly he was 3 yards and down the rest of the game. Did the Giants wake up? Did the OL go back to sleep?Jones has the talent to be one of the best RBs in the NFL, but he's got to let his instincts take over a little more.
