This time, he crossed it, with a tip of the playoff hat to Jimmy Raye's Fire Drill offense with VD to cap it that didn't blow up in their face like it used to. Next step taken.

Interesting, 3 out of the 4 teams left in the playoffs are known for their defense.should be a smash mouth game next weekend
it has been like that all the time and it will be until the league completely changes into arena league. there's a great chance of that horrid Pats D exposed next week and eliminated too.

NYG stomped GB on the road in the post season, and a hot road team that is already familiar with this SF team ain't gonna be easy.Yup. Intellectually I know it's better to take a stronger adversary at home versus a weaker adversary on the road, but I think I'd rather have the Green Bay matchup instead.
New York is peaking right now and playing some inspired football. Next week is going to be a tough row to hoe. New York is going to have an added edge for payback, and the Niners are coming off the biggest emotional win that pretty much the entire team has experienced. On top of the emotional letdown there may be a subconcious hint of over-confidence since they already beat NY this year. Going on the Road, to Green Bay might have the impact of "great, now let's get back to work" which has served them well.

Much rather play the Giants at home. People forget how worried fans were about having to play either the Saints or the Packers. How poorly we matched up against the high powered offensive teams. Yeah, we got by the Saints, but the Packers on the road would have been murder. Especially after the Packers had a chance to knock the rust off playing the Giants.Harbaugh has already played & beaten the Giants once, he should have a great game plan in place. Expectations would have been lower @ GB. It will be much more heartbreaking if NY comes into Candlestick and pulls one out, than if the Niners had lost big to the consensus best team in the league in one of the tougher road venues in sports. That may have helped the players too, in going them that "no one believes in us" kind of mentality. But, objectively, it's hard to make the argument that the Niners would have been better off traveling to Lambeau. they are home underdogs again this week, so motivation shouldn't be a problem. Both the Packers and Giants won 3 straight road games to get to the Super Bowl. I'm taking a bit of the road equation off the table and looking at who faced this years 49ers in the regular season. GB hadn't. NYG has. I don't wanna dismiss NYG because they are on the road, since they have already played the 49ers at home, yet lost. So they already have things to look for than GB would have outside of game tape.Expectations would have been lower @ GB. I dont see how the fact the Giants already played us is such a great an advantage for them. After all, we played them too and have just as much data on them as they do on us. They're still the ones who have to travel west, on one day shorter rest.

What does that have to do with their win last week? If we lose on Sunday, it won't be because of an advantage the Giants had from playing us before. It'll be because they're peaking right now and are playing damn good football.It's only an advantage if the Giants analyze and learn from the regular season matchup and the 49ers do not do the same, something I don't see happening.

Second time these coaches faced each other, with one coaching staff in their first post season (as well as regular season). You might dismiss that. I keep stuff like that in mind, because it isn't like that doesn't matter. If you don't think that teams learn something from one another after they played against each other during the regular season, I dunno what to tell you. This isn't an "advantage" issue between these two teams. I would think the advantage would go to the 49ers facing a team who hadn't faced them before. I'm not calling who is gonna win or lose this game because of that reason. Familiarity against an opponent helps in preparation. Case in point: Greg Roman said recently that the blitz packages NO ran against them in the pre-season helped them big this last post season game. So take that FWIW.

In reference to the bolded, that's actually exactly what I'm saying. I may have misread, but it looked like you were implying that the Giants somehow have an advantage due to this, while I'm saying that both teams can benefit from it.

SF took away a lot of stuff for Brees in coverage. GB might have had the same problem trying to beat the tight coverage SF brings. NYG has seen some or a lot of that already. Same goes for SF's offense on what NYG's defense has in store. This game could be more of a "chess match" game after facing each other already.
