No kidding. They were going to trust their defense to hold the Bengals?Oh, and it was completely ridiculous to punt on 4th and 1 in the 4th quarter.
linkESPN 980 has an inflammatory and controversial report regarding the behavior of Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan at Sunday’s loss to the Bengals. And the Redskins have no response to that report.
According to ESPN 980, Kyle Shanahan chased down an official and said, “You have no f–king balls, you are a f–king #####.”
perhaps you misremember the late 90's Mike Nolan defense'ChrisCooleyFan said:This is the worst defense ever. They cant cover cant tackle, Pathetic![]()
not sure what the solution is to the defensive problems. I'm a proponent of building from the lines out -and they've done that- but the secondary issues are troubling. Talent evaluation is called into question, keeping R Dougherty and not retaining guys like Torrence & Holmes.Thank God we have a guy like Fletcher, who I expect to lead the unit to a turnaroundi agree.dude is incredible.loved wen they showed him on the side line, i think wen it was 24-14, right after the touchdown wen he was rallying the guys. good stuff.Griffin did all he could today, which was a lot. Morris was good today. Rob Jackson looked good early.

As in, turn around and find the receiver that's running ten yards behind them already on the way to another TD reception? Seriously, I'd like to know what you see that even HINTS at the defense turning around. They are beyond horrible.I think the most unexplainable play of the game is the first play of the game. The Bengals line up in the Wildcat with Dalton as a WR on the far right and A.J. Green in the slot. So the Redskins put Hall on Dalton and Gomes on Green. When is it right to cover Green one on one with a safety? The answer can't be when Green lines up in the slot.No kidding. They were going to trust their defense to hold the Bengals?Oh, and it was completely ridiculous to punt on 4th and 1 in the 4th quarter.
The high scoring is fun to watch. And it is so different that the Redskin teams of the past few years. It is fun to watch RGIII run the ball and run an unconventional offense. But I do cringe everytime he gets hit. The book on Vick is to hit him hard every time he runs the ball and I am certain defenses will do this with RGIII.While I'd like the Skins to be 3-0, I couldn't be happier with the season thus far (outside of the crappy injuries) RG3 has made watching this team fun, and they are competing in every game. Clearly the defense is what is going to kill us this year, but at least we'll have a lot of fun, high scoring games to watch!![]()
I guess this shows you how far the skins have fallen. When watching a team with perhaps the worst defense in the league is considered fun. I guess if I turned the channel every time the other team had the ball it might be fun. Or if I was a video game addict that wanted the teams to go up and down the field scoring every possesion with little to no defensive effort. I get the hype for RGIII, I like him a lot. And the A Morris story is nice. But to enjoy watching another cellar dweller losing game after game, I don't get that at all. Like I said, I guess as a skins fan, expectations have just fallen off a cliff when this is considered a "good" or "fun" season. While I'd like the Skins to be 3-0, I couldn't be happier with the season thus far (outside of the crappy injuries) RG3 has made watching this team fun, and they are competing in every game. RGIII isn't going to make it through the season if they keep running that option crap. It was brutal watching the defense blow him up every time he would release the ball. I'm all for the rollouts, giving him an option to run or pass, but that option run is going to kill him. Defenders don't give a crap if the RB gains an extra 5 yards, they will take the free shot at the defenseless QB.The high scoring is fun to watch. Jay Gruden said they saw it on film that the Redskins always would play cover 0 and crowd the safeties up against the wildcat every time and that they figured Green would be singled up just like it happened. They put the play in at Wednesday's practice (Sanu completed 18 passes including 4 TDs out of the wildcat in college and was a HS QB).It was a fun game to attend and I have to give props to the Redskin fansI think the most unexplainable play of the game is the first play of the game. It's common practice to line up that way against a wildcat formation. It's never made much sense to me why you'd have a CB on the QB, but that's what everyone does. And, really, it's mostly harmless because teams run out of the wildcat 99.999% of the time (warning: I made up that %). It would have been nice if they could have adjusted on the fly and been more aware of Green. But, I think they lined up the way pretty much every defensive unit would have lined up.Personally, I'd pretty leave the QB uncovered against most teams. If he wants to go out wide, I'd dare them to throw him the ball. If he picks up 15 yards one play, that's fine. But, make them show they are willing to throw to the QB before dedicating resources to covering him.yeah they were talking about this on the junkies this morningsaying how they just wernt prepared for itI think the most unexplainable play of the game is the first play of the game. I think that is why teams put the safeties up and make sure it is a safety in the slot rather than a CB. Imagine Hall lined up there and it is a run play right at him. I'd really like to see an injury study between "running QBs" and "pocket QBs". I'm just not buying that it's a big difference. So, of course, I'm really not a fan of reining Griffin in. Let him do what he does. I see no reason to trade up for him in the draft if you are going to then try to alter his game. It's football. People get hurt. You can't play to not get hurt...or else you'll get hurt. The conventional stuff wasn't working yesterday. The offense couldn't move the ball in the first half. Part of reining him in occurred when Shanahan called for the punt on 4th and 1. What a lousy decision. The Skins had the momentum and it was time to keep attacking. Instead of going for it, for the second time in 2 weeks Shanahan changed his mind after an opponents time out and decided not to attack. The conventional stuff wasn't working yesterday. The offense couldn't move the ball in the first half. The second half, they adjusted and found something that worked. John KeimThat’s why it’s difficult to lay the blame on any one particular coach. Meltdowns like this are a collective effort. Don’t read that as absolving anyone of blame. Jim Haslett is the defensive coordinator and he must fix this unit. Yeah, I’ve talked to people outside the organization who have criticized parts of his strategy (needs to adjust better; lack of sound technique in the back end, etc). Is it fair? I’d have to know a lot more than I do to say it is. But: he’s used to running a 4-3 and was then asked to run a 3-4 and he has none of his “guys” on his staff. It’s a little different. That’s why I say it’s a collective effort, though one guy does have the title. They’re on pace to give up 85.3 pass plays of 20 yards or more (27 more than last season). It also didn’t seem to be related to the loss of Adam Carriker and Brian Orakpo. Indeed, Rob Jackson had some huge plays with the diving interception for a touchdown and three tackles for a loss. Just a good read on his part on the touchdown. Maybe Orakpo would have applied a little more pressure, but it’s tough to say his impact Sunday would have been greater considering the points. Jarvis Jenkins was OK. Oh, by the way, two weeks ago everyone was talking about the impact Raheem Morris had made in the coverage. That angle has been toned down a bit.
Trent Williams has a bruised knee bone.
A big part of the RGIII getting hit is the poor play of the OL. RGIII was sacked 6 times and hit many more while in pocket. He also got slammed twice while pitching balls out in his own backfield. The OL needs to keep people off RGII better than that. I think the hits when he is actually running the ball aren't that bad because he can anticipate and protect himself.I'd really like to see an injury study between "running QBs" and "pocket QBs". Summary: The defense is bad.In fairness, though, 30 is the new 20 in the NFL.#Redskins defenses under Greg Blache allowed 3 games of 30+ points.. Haslett is at 18 games and rising.8 games of 30+ in 4 seasons for Williamsthis guy#Redskins are on pace to allow 5,940 passing yards, NFL record is 4,796

Two weeks in a row now. Once again, in the fourth quarter:It's getting lost in the shuffle with the complaints about special teams and the idiocy of Josh Morgan, but the decision to punt on 4th and 7 from the Rams 39 with 7 minutes left and the Redskins down 3 was absolutely inexcusable. Going for it would have been fine. Attempting the game-tying FG from 53 or 54 yards would have been fine. Punting was a disaster. Things went as well as they possibly could have gone post-decision: punt downed at the 11 yard line, then a three and out for the Rams- and even with everything going to plan, all they did was cost themselves 2:13 off the clock and 39 yards of field position in exchange for three downs. If a 62 yard FG to tie the game is within the range of possibility (to the point that it's more likely to happen than a 4th and 16 conversion), how is a 53 yard FG try so impossible that the team is better off pinning St. Louis on the11 instead of the 37? So, so dumb.
Setting aside the moronic wasting of timeouts and challenges, this decision by Shanahan was inexcusable. The score was tied at this point. It's demonstrably wrong to punt here. It's not close. No matter who the teams and players are, you are hurting your team's chances to win if you punt here. Everyone focuses on blown calls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and stuff like this gets lost in the shuffle, but it shouldn't be. This is where the game was lost, and the media and fans need to call out Shanahan on it.4-1-CIN 44 (13:41) 6-S.Rocca punts 44 yards to end zone, Center-54-J.Snow, Touchback. Washington challenged the touchback ruling, and the play was Upheld. (Timeout #3 at 13:27.)
I think he was asked about it in the postgame presser and he gave a pretty unsatisfactory answer. He said he was lining up to go for it because he thought the Bengals' defenders were tired. Once Cincy took the timeout, Shanahan changed his mind because they now had some rest. So, it appears his initial decision to go for it really had nothing to do with the game scenario (tied score, field position, distance to go, 4th quarter, etc.). It was all about them being tired...if you can trust his answer. It's baffling that he trusted his D to hold Cincy more than he trusted his O to pick up less than a yard. Even if he did trust his D, he has to then think that they'd return the punt further than the 44 in order for them to gain a field of position advantage out of all of that. I believe last week's decision to punt led to St. Louis getting off a 60+ yard punt with no return by Banks and a huge field position change. Oh, and btw, Racca is having a pretty bad year. He's been pretty good at dropping some inside the 10, but his punts in the middle of the field have to have a pretty low average.'TobiasFunke said:This is where the game was lost, and the media and fans need to call out Shanahan on it.

It really is baffling. The offense is the strength of the team, the defense is the weakness, and it is only 1 yard. He made a very bad decision. It's baffling that he trusted his D to hold Cincy more than he trusted his O to pick up less than a yard.
Yeah, I'd say.I'm gonna do my part to make this an issue for Redskins fans. Because it should be. It's one thing to complain about the state of the O-Line and the secondary. There are real limitations that the team faces in trying to improve those, with the salary cap and the need to use draft picks elsewhere and the lack of available talent and so on. But there is no excuse for willfully choosing to reduce your team's chances to win a game by making "conservative" decisions, presumably just so you don't look bad if the right decision backfires. It's not OK. I've been pro-Shanahan and I really want them to give this regime time to take root, but as a fan there's nothing that pisses me off more than this kind of stuff.I think he was asked about it in the postgame presser and he gave a pretty unsatisfactory answer. Veteran running back Ryan Grant has agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins, FOX Sports Insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer reports.
Grant, who was in Chicago for a workout with the Bears, is flying to Washington on Tuesday evening to be with the team.
Grant was in the Bears' locker room when he got the call from the Redskins, according to Glazer.
CBSSports.com first reported that Grant and the Redskins struck a deal.
The Redskins are thin at running back after injuries to Roy Helu (foot) and Evan Royster (knee).
Grant was released by the Green Bay Packers following the 2011 season, in which he rushed for 559 yards on 134 carries.
He suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1 of the 2010 season following consecutive 1,200-yard campaigns.
UPDATE: Grant later tweeted out that he was on the Redskins and thanked the fans in Green Bay.

Well I'd prefer an answer from Madonna over Spurrier and Zorn too, but she'd do some ####ty coaching. That was a ####ty coaching decision by Shanahan, just like the 287-yard field goal the week before. So far Shanahan's record is worse than Zorn's.And who's deciding to use the Pearl Harbor pass defenses they've been using?Steve Spurrier....Jim Zorn....I'll take "a pretty unsatisfactory answer" from Shanny any day over satisfactory answers from those two BOZO's! Don't forget where we have been and take it for granted boyz!
The Redskins also signed defensive lineman Chigbo Anunoby (ch-BOO Ann-u-noby) to their practice squad and released defensive lineman Delvin Johnson from their practice squad.
Exactly. You can't defend a moronic decision by saying that the guy isn't always as moronic as two other guys who had the job. Stupid is stupid. And punting on 4th and 1 at the opponent's 44 with the score tied in the fourth quarter is honestly one of the dumbest things I've ever seen from an NFL coach. After doing what? Driving to Redskins Park? Practicing?
I suspect 30% of the NFL head coaches would have punted there. If so, that his not a automatic decision. On the other side is the 62 yard field goal attempt by Cundiff. Almost no coach would have tried the field goal there. The point is: the decision to punt is not that unreasonable. I'm not saying it was a good decision, but I don't think it was surprising or unreasonable.Game momentum shifted at that moment from the Skins to the Bengals. The Bengals didn't seize the momentum.
