***Official 2013/2014 NHL Regular Season Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I don't think it's outrageously bad or anything, but I do think it's a deal that they will probably regret in a couple years. hope it works out though.

IMO, he was overpaid in Buffalo b/c they had nobody else and he was put into a 1st line role. I'm not sure he's really a 1st line player on a contending team, which is what the Wild are trying to build. He's a good player who does a lot of things well, but not the type of player opposing teams will spend much time worrying about. Those other guys you mentioned all look to me like clear top-line players on their respective teams. Is Pominville going to be playing with Koivu/Parise most of the time? If so, I can see him posting a PPG and being fine. If they try to balance the lines more though, I'm skeptical whether he will produce enough.

Anyway, his injury late last season made it tough to see exactly how he'll fit in there. Definitely a solid guy to have on the team. Great shot and a player who can contribute to both special teams units.

Caps claimed D man Alexander Urbom on waivers who was a Devils prospect.

He is reporting to Washington so that means another move has to take place to make room for him.

Carrick sent down would make the most sense.

Urbom was someone I liked when he was coming out a few years ago.Nice size who plays physical who could be a 2nd pairing type of player.Kinda surprised the Devils let him go but they have some really nice depth at the position so I'm happy they did.

ETA:Latta was the player sent down and not Carrick so this buys them another 9 games on Carrick to make the choice to keep him up or send him down.

pretty clear cut 1st line guy to me who can fit any role. cap hit seems very fair to me.

I don't love the Pominville contract, just because of the term. I would think something like 3/15 would have been fine. That said, when you compare it to the Clowe/Bickell/Clarkson contracts of the summer it looks pretty good.

Roy going crazy at the end - pissed off about something
Lovejoy knee on MacKinnon or Bruce looked at him wrong
I think it was the knee - waiting for the post game

Bruce looked a bit scared
Boudreau played for Hyannisport in Slap Shot. He probably would have been OK.

Then again, that was 35 years ago.

Old time hockey! Eddie Shore!

agreed with him being 31 this year. but you look at their core prospect group and none of them will hit UFA until after the Koivu and Pominville deals come off the books. who knows what the landscape will look like then but most assume the cap will only go up through that period. I think this is a very reasonable deal when looking at similar deals handed out the last year or so and does not hamstring their future plans at all. if they do pursue Vanek, which I would say is likely, they could create some issues with Coyle/Brodin/Granlund/Scandella all hitting RFA after next year. things can change quick but I like how they are positioned. Koivu hit is a bit of a drag and I didn't love the new Backstrom contract, but overall I think they are in a good spot. just need the kids to develop appropriately.

@DarrenDreger 4m
Seidenberg extension in Boston. 4 years, $16 million. No-trade clause included

-------

As with Pominville, the money is fine, but Seidenberg is 32, could see him going downhill before the end of this one.

Wild beat writer thinks that the Vanek signing next summer is such a given that it helped keep Pomminville now. Also factored into Pomminville lowering his original asking price. Just passing this along. Radio interview this afternoon so no link to post.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the four years, especially with the young defensemen the Bruins have. Already they don't have enough room for both Hamilton and Bartkowski in the lineup, and they have Kevan Miller waiting down in Providence, along with guys like Warsofsky and Cross.

pretty encouraging loss for the Wild, thought they controlled most of that game and had LA on their heels for nearly all of the first two periods. Coyle was really good other than the mental lapse on the faceoff penalty. Niederreiter was impressive in the offensive zone all night and made a very nice feed on the Brodin goal, staying with the play after getting hauled down. Granlund looked improved as well. very pleased to see Brodziak looking alot better after a rough season last year. Cooke had a solid game, really like him with Brodziak. pace was great all night, lots of speed and D jumping into the rush. good forecheck and neutral ice pressure creating turnovers against a much larger, veteran team.

Quick held them in it, but I think the finishing will come with this group. the solid preseason play carried over to last night, overall I liked what I saw. if they play like that every night they will win alot of games this year.

Caps looked like ####.

Defense has sucked ### and even strength play they get worked over by one of the worst teams in the league until Ovie bailed them out as well as the PP(which has looked great).

Still early but they have some huge holes.

Kobasew and Adams on pace for 82 goals, what a bargain, GMRS is da man!!!!

Holtby look any better than he has? He looked awful the last two games against the Hawks.

I sure hope you are right Brasky. During the 2nd and 3rd period I kept thinking "this looks familiar, control the play, getting chances, no one can finish".

He let in 3 during the 1st period.2 were really nice shots and the 3rd was Mike Green getting outworked in front of the net for an easy tap in for the Flames.

So I don't think he was totally at fault but he certainly needs to improve.

always a concern, they haven't been able to finish in well...forever. but they don't typically push the play against really good teams like they did last night and with so many developing young guys, the PP moving the puck very well, and the 1st line really not adding a whole lot offensively last night, I am optimistic they will begin to fall. they have goal scoring ability in the lineup now, I think it will come. I liked what I saw as a whole.

the Wild held the Kings without a shot on goal for what seemed like the entire 2nd period. I wasn't watching the game but was watching the box score.

Found it interesting that one of the guys on ESPN.com, Scott Burnside, picked the 'Yotes to win it all (6-of-12 picked the Kings), but they looked really good last night against the Rangers.

Guys in fantasy leagues should keep an eye on Tomas Hertl. Rookie played on a line with Thornton and Burns last night and looked good.

I'm at an AHL game in Oklahoma City right now. Probaby 2,000 people in the crowd. It's really easy to heckle the players when you know they can hear you. I swear the crappy Staal just made eye contact with me when I asked him why he isn't as good as his brothers. Any suggestions for things to yell at Manny Malhotra?

I read somewhere he has like six sisters. GO.

I thought Carolina was underrated this year, they played great hockey for two periods without their first line doing anything. Then the same old Canes. They will be 8th in the Metro. They have cup winners on the team but they can't finish. Cam Ward is not good. BTW I really thought for two hours I could mess with Foos and send him a welcome to the Metro PM, but again I just cheer for a losing team. :bag:

wings looking good, can't wait to watch them beat up on the east now

The Dustin Brown dive tonight was comical. Guy pokes him in the junk and he jumps up like a rug got pulled out from under him.

Downie leaves his feet to crush a Preds player and the Avs end up with pp, Weber in the box. Aside from Downie I really like this Avs team.

Grabner shoulda had the HT tonight, missed a breakaway for number 3.

I'd like to hear some philly homers give predictions on where the Flyers finish this year.

im going to the canucks home opener tomorrow night

heard on the radio today that the canucks patented a glass with lights in it. it will be interesting to see what it looks like during the stoppages

burrows missed practice after blocking a shot

no canucks looked great during the sharks game

only a few looked ok --sendin's , burrows , luongo , tannev

should be an interesting game with the oilers top 2 centers out

and

Go Oilers Go

Sendin's looked pretty capable on the PK last game, will be interesting to see if that continues.

If they don't figure out how to score 5 on 5 they they'll struggle to make the playoffs. But I expect Laviolette to be gone which hopefully helps that situation, and if he's gone then I would think a 5-6 seed in the east.
