***OFFICIAL*** 2013 MINNESOTA VIKINGS SEASON THREAD (1 Viewer)

Anyone got any last second hunches or feelings about tonight's draft they want to share? A scenario I will throw out there is rumor is the 49ers are looking to move way up to get a WR as they believe they are 1 player away from a Super Bowl. If Evans is still there at 8 (and maybe for Beckham) The 49ers give us their number 1 pick this year, both their 2nd round picks this year, and their number 1 pick next year to move up to 8. That would give us 6 of the top 96 picks of the draft to fill alot of holes.

Interesting KFAN blurb today asking if Spielman inadvertently tipped his hand with the following quote at yesterday's conference:

"You can't be afraid. Regardless of position, if there's a guy there that you have strong feelings for, whether it's at 8 or 40 or 16, then you take him. I mean, the one thing you cannot be afraid at this job is to take chances or take risks on guys that you feel strongly about."

I want Bortles. I don't want Manziel or Teddy. If they can trade down a bit to get him I would love to see that. Let Cassell start this year and let Blake learn.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Johnny Manziel is in play for the Vikings at No. 8, and that owner Zygi Wilf's brain trust is flying in for a Thursday afternoon meeting where the "call will be made."

It's notable because it suggests Wilf might overrule his football people. There have been signs the Vikes are leaning defense at No. 8, but ESPN's Adam Schefter has also listed them as a possibility for Manziel.
:excited: :squirt:

I just hope he is still on the clock when the Vikings pick...not sure I want him but it would add to all the excitement - that is for sure.

NOOOOOO!! I don't want the little midget who reminds me more of Tommy Kramer than Fran Tarkenton. Last thing I want is a QB who is going to go drinking and partying with is OL. I just don't see someone of his size having a long and successful career in the NFL. I PASS!

Who cares how long he plays? Would you not settle for say, five years of awesome?

Matt Cassel is in his 10th year in the league. Yippie.

Don't see Mike Zimmer agreeing to this pick. Zimmer already said he wasn't impressed with the circus on his pro-day and that is what you will be getting with JM.

JM seems like a much better fit in Jacksonville. Owner wants to put people in the seats badly, willing to even go over seas to get more team attention. Drafting JM will instantly double their season ticket sales to 30.

Zimmer said it was a circus atmosphere...didn't really say much else...also said he has flags - but people quoted him as saying "red flags."

I'd really love to see what Manziel could do with Peterson and Patterson and Norv Coaching him..

Saying that I'm kind of hoping he is gone before pick #8 so the brass doesn't have to make a tough decision.

If they pick him and he flames out Speilman is gone... But if they pass up on him and he goes on to be the exciting, scoring, team leading, fan drawing QB he was at A&M Speilman will be gone.. Glad I'm not in his shoes if he drops to their pick.

3 hours and counting :excited:

wasn't impressed with the circus and circus atmosphere...is there really a difference?

Five years? Haa? I say he'll never play 16 games a season ever. Wherever he goes, he won't start right away but he'll be involved in some packages only. I also think his off the field activities will eventually take the toll on management and the coaching staff. Also remember he will be playing outdoors if he does get drafted by us. How that effects his throwing who knows. Supposedly he has above sized hands for someone who is 5 ft 11 3/4s. I still say I'll pass on Manziel.

That's not saying anything about Manziel himself. I don't think he brought that to the event. I think it was the college and his agent.

The Vikings would be more in control of that stuff.

Which off the field activities are a problem - specifically?

You do know that ALL quarterbacks play outside, right?

Zimmer has said his imput into the decision on QBs will be based on charecter. He said he is looking for a QB with the same work ethic and personality type that Zimmer has.

So if they do draft Manziel he will inevitably have to answer questions about how Manziel's personality type is like Zimmer's.

Same goes for any QB they draft. He has opened that up to reflect back on him.

That's not saying anything about Manziel himself. I don't think he brought that to the event. I think it was the college and his agent.

Oh let's not kid ourselves. You don't think Manziel wasn't aware of who or what was going to take place on HIS pro-day? He was fully aware of the atmosphere and was living it up bobbing his head and reacting to the environment.

I'm not saying Manziel is a bad QB by any means, but I just think Zimmer will not want someone that brings a "Tebow-like" environment to the team.

Yep, I went there. I think the media is going to be all over him, just look how much attention he is getting right now and this offseason. Of course there probably won't ever be another player that gets that much attention as Tim, but Manziel is going to be right up there. When was the last time you saw the 16th pick of the Cowboys the headline for NFL.com when Mayock released his draft. they weren't talking about the 1, 2, or 10th player. It was where is Manziel going. Media just loves this guy and it will follow to the team that picks him.

Really? ALL do huh? Do the officials wear stripes too always? Has Manziel ever touched snow, never mind played in it? Sure his big arm would help in crappy conditions as in the Baltimore game from last year but I don't see him worthy of the 8th pick overall. Too many people have this man crush over him. He has a history of off field activities which put him in the limelight. Sorry but I would rather my QB live a quiet lifestyle ala Peyton then someone like a Tebow which is what Manziel is, with a better arm. End result, we'll agree to disagree on Manziel. I would still pass on him at pick 40.

Rotoworld:

Appearing from Vikings headquarters on SportsCenter, ESPN's Bob Holtzman said he's heard Eastern Illinois QB Jimmy Garoppolo's name mentioned.
Holtzman said the Vikings are leaning toward defense with the No. 8 overall pick, which shouldn't be a surprise under new defensive-minded head coach Mike Zimmer. The quarterback position could be addressed in Round 2 or 3 with Garoppolo, who was in Minnesota for a private workout back on April 11. Under that scenario, Garoppolo could develop for a year or two behind stop-gap Matt Cassel.

I wanted Manziel or Donald but I do think Barr is a great talent. Remember he is going 9th overall in a position he has played for less than 2 years.

I am disappointed. I don't see a raw pass rushing LB is going to get us to the SB in 2014. We needed a QB plain and simple and ADP's days are numbered.

Maybe the Vikes still have a trade back in the 1st round still up their sleeve for Manziel or Bridgewater?

31st worst defense last year and you want offense with 1st round pick? Before you can think SB that has to be repaired. Cassel did just fine when given chance. Possibly in Norvs system he could do better.

They've neglected LB longer than they've neglected QB. I just hope Barr isnt a project. Mayock makes him sound like one.

SB IN 2014??? Seriously? lol There is no one who we could have gotten at pick 8 or 9 that would lead us to the SB.

I hear Barr will be beefing up to play RDE according to the guys from ESPN.

I'm just glad we passed on Johnny Football.....thew.....

I don't know anything about Barr but I'm not crazy about taking "raw, inexperienced boom-or-bust" type players this high. I'd rather have a more polished guy. Hopefully Zimmer can coach him up.

Reported that getting him in the first round so they have that 5th year option was important in their decision to trade up. Going for the long play.

Never count out Slick Rick! Wanted Manziel but I will take Teddy. We got a QB and a guy to chase other QB's so overall pretty happy with how tonight went. Now grab a CB and a SS tomorrow with our two 3rd round picks then go BPA for the rest of the draft.
